  1. Because Rex asked them to? This, to me, was a firing backed by the Pegulas not ordered by the Pegulas.
  2. He was the highest paid OC in the league. Pegulas meet with other employees to get an additional read on the situation. It's not that odd.
  3. You're right, they didn't get there by playing poorly but if you think that makes him above criticism, then we are just going to have to disagree. Also, let's not act like SF was an offensive juggernaut and that's what even got them to the SB. It was their defense. And no, IMO he hasn't shown he knows how to utilize the talent he's been given, which is why he was fired. EDIT: they had a problem getting in plays on time all that season. Point is it followed them to the SB and it followed Roman here to Buffalo. The guy is not without his faults.
  4. The firing of Roman says to me that the talent is there but isn't being utilized. This isn't going to be a system change, that's not possible in-season, but a change on how the plays are used and when they are called. They'll still use the same concepts, Palmer is still there. Roman got a lot of criticism in SF for some similar things we have seen here. No urgency, no adjustments and slow to get plays in. Who can forget the final drive of the SF Super Bowl when they had to burn a TO to avoid a delay of game. Saying all that Roman designs some very good pays. Remains to be seen if this will fix anything at all. I doubt it will.
  5. Everyone seems to agree that Romans play designs are very good, were he gets a lot of criticism is his management of the game. It's what people said in SF. He lacks urgency. I guess we shall see if that changes.
  6. Reading a lot of old 49ers articles and it seems to be the theme for Roman. They led the league in delay of game penalties for a couple years when he was there. A lot of people seem to think it really handicapped the offense because he didn't give the QB enough time to read the defense. One 49ers writer watched a couple Bills games from last year and said it looked like the same things he saw in SF. They also said he doesn't do well adapting and changing as the game progresses. Said his plays are great and creative but just doesn't manage in-game stuff well.
  7. I do agree with NoSaint though... should have done it in the offseason then. But yea just because a guy has a good playbook, does not mean he knows how to put a game plan together or coach in-game. Rex is a perfect example of that.
  8. Dave, he was tight ends coach at Stanford, he wasn't calling plays. That was David Shaw. Harbaugh brought him with him to SF, when Shaw wouldn't come/got the Stanford HC job. Harbaugh gave him his first OC job in SF. I'm sure Romans playbook is a lot like Harbaughs but that doesn't mean he can call plays and game plan as well as Harbaugh can. So for me the success you are giving Roman in SF, because he was calling play under Harbaughs supervision, can be attributed to Harbaugh.
  9. True but we saw the same problems in the RedZone.
  10. No offense Dave but to me this is like point to the New Orleans offense and giving Marrone a lot of credit for it.
  11. Guy has been in the league for 17 years... obviously that still can mean very little.
  12. Yea that's fair, my point was Harbaugh was an offensive guy, how much say did he have as opposed to Roman. Who was really leading that offense? Up for debate if you ask me. It's a lot like giving Marrone credit for being OC in New Orleans.
  13. Yea but Harbaugh left too. Hard to say who the success in SF was tied too. If you're a Bills fan you wanna believe it was Roman.
  14. Hard to say. I think with how Rex was going to use Ragland, as a blitzing LB, he certainly could have got more pressure. Shaq may or may not have gotten more pressure. Dareus would hav definitely occupied 2 people up front and would have freed up someone.
  15. Yea I remember those. Or even just winning the first game. The NFL is so odd, I mean Ron Rivera went 7-9 in his first 2 seasons and so did Pete Carroll. Now look at those franchises.
  16. The thing is, it has nothing to do with physical talent in regards to TT, which is the reason you would put in Cardale, who's a physical freak. It's mental for TT. He can't read the field. There is no way of knowing if Cardale can and at this point, I would be highly suspect if he could.
  17. I don't know what's worse that or bringing all the defenders into the box and then trying to run it up the middle. I absolutely hate that play call. WHY DON'T YOU SPREAD THE DEFENSE OUT!
  18. I haven't seen him once get to his drop, plant and throw. Everything just takes too long and he definitely needs to see a WR open before he throws. It's obvious Roman doesn't trust him to call his own plays, as evidenced by the 2 minute drills. Just bad.
  19. Well not right now... of course
  20. I'm still on my way to LA!
  21. Yea but fake that 4th down sneak, then call a timeout, then bring in all the defenders inside the box and run... cause ya know
