Interesting that this thread comes back up, from 25 Nov. Truth be told, a few weeks later, during the last couple games of the season there in Dec., I threw out a thought to a friend after the Packers game, that the Bills might use Alonzo as trade bait for a quarterback during the offseason. At the time, I thought that they might consider that, seeing how well our defense performed w/out him, and the great need for a better qb.

I respectfully disagree. It's not a "one size fits all" world. Because it didn't work for Painter, then its a given its not going to work for EJ. Colts never picked up Painter planning on him being a starter. EJ has more athleticism and potential than Painter could ever dream of. I do think its a given that EJ's game would pick up under the schooling by Manning as opposed to a slug like Painter.

If he was willing to go w/ a new team, I don't think he'd sign w/ Buffalo given the O line issues we have. However, I'd love to see him play for us a year, EJ could learn a lot with him. Then the following year, Manning becomes our QB coach. I know I'm dreaming, though.

So the Buffalo paper & Peter King say that this guy should have a "second chance". Really? I've waited a few days since his signing to think about this. Here's what sticks out in my mind. If this guy had a "normal" job, like you & I, and it was discovered that we did only half of what this guy did in Miami, we'd be out the door and the only job we might be considered for is pushing a broom or flipping burgers part time. But it's because he has a certain football skill level, in a sport America craves, that he gets a 3rd and a 4th chance. He screwed up while at college, while with the Rams, Buffalo didn't want him but for 3 games, and in Miami......well you know the details. In short, if this were you or I or anyone else, we'd be canned, but only because this moron can play a little football, Oh, he deserves a Second chance. Lewis Black would have a field day with this!
