He’s great. He’s been great in the playoffs. He wasn’t tonight. Started shaky as hell. Couldn’t run all night. Couldn’t sneak. Couldn’t get it downfield (except Hollins a few times…good on Hollins). Ran right into that blitz he didn’t see to end the game and left Shakir open for what may have been a winner. Love Josh. But let’s just call it what it was—choke job tonight. If he was great we go to the superbowl. He was far from great.

I hear this a lot this week, in particular, as the football world focuses on our game. It’s usally said as a positive. But the question is—when will everyone (including us) just acknowledge that Khalil Shakir is our number 1 and a legit number 1? He’s no Megatron and we spread the ball but I think he’s good enough for us, and good enough period, that this should be considered an insult to him.

Recall, in addition to the defensive scheme comments, that our offense scores points. Its really not an option for other teams to just pound it out all game unless they hold us on offense which nobody does. The one thing is if the whole song doesn’t click and we do pull a physical team on offense that can run and a defense that holds us the loss looks ugly—best example being the whipping Cincinnati gave us in the playoffs. More recently Baltimore. I would rather see KC than Baltimore (obviously), but even Pittsburg is dubious in the playoffs.

At the end of the day Bass is a pro, a vet, and we pay him a lot for a kicker. You send him out to live or die. If not you should have already cut him.
