  1. I'd say Ray Rice is the no-brainer at 1, so you're lucky to get him at 2, JMO. Depends on your scoring but there's likely more QBs that will get you in the area of Rodgers, than there are RBs that'll get you in the neighborhood of Rice or Foster.
  2. They should really just get rid of the computers since even if they use webfilters, anyone can just use an SSL proxy site to get around it. And why are they letting these kids reading "The Diary of Anne Frank?!?" Do they really have to know about the evil that exists in the world? They might get nightmares! BURN IT! While they're at it, they should probably just take "Rules for Radicals" off the shelves, because God-forbid one of our kids picks that up and grows up to be a.... *shudders* liberal. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qh2sWSVRrmo
  3. The Bills play on the 30th. Last preseason game, so not missing much if that is the date. If I get a vote, I say August 27th sounds good.
  4. Maybe not, but the problem is where do you draw the line? Do you want to set a precedent that you can only check out books that the "community" likes? Most involved with libraries hate that they have to deal with weirdos who dont seem to have a problem with watching porn in public, but would rather put up with that than partake in any form of censorship.
  5. I just joined. The draft time is a little early, IMO, it might be better to do it a little closer to the start of the season. But with no $ on the line, I'm not complaining. AUFO, if you do change it to the 17th or 18th, I wont be able to make the draft bc I'm in a wedding that weekend. I dont mind setting a board and auto drafting, but I'd rather not. Thanks for taking on the commissioner duties!
  6. any idea when you're going to have the draft?
  7. 1. Everyone agrees on this. There are two (and a half) reasons every team doesn't have a slash-type 3rd QB: Those that don't are either trying to protect a developmental QB (and/or don't run any type of Wildcat/exotic formation) or they simply can't find a guy who is capable of filling multiple roles. If there were 32 players as versatile (and in a similar mold) as Brad Smith, every team would have a guy like him as their 3rd QB. I think if this rule sticks (and I don't see why it wouldn't), within a few years basically every team will employ a slash-type QB. 2. I'm not saying this is definitely true, but couldn't it be the case that BS was so successful on his runs out of the Wildcat because of the threat of the pass? Granted it is a small chance, but it should be respected more than CJ's or FJ's ability to throw. Again, I don't know this to be true, but I would bet that in the Chiefs game - the first game of the season- Chan told BS to just air it out no matter the coverage. Why? So that when opposing DCs look at the tape, they know not to stack the box against the Wildcat bc Scoe or someone might get behind them and reel in a bomb. In a 41-7 rout, why not put not that on display to give DCs something to think about? Again, I don't know that that was the motivation behind that, but if it was, and if that caused Safeties to back off in the subsequent games, I think we have might have an answer for why the Bills might use BS instead of FJ or CJ in a short yardage situation. Remember, in standard sets at least, the Oline had trouble getting a push and FJ had trouble getting a few yards against a stacked box. Those 5+ YPC were mostly due to running out of the spread on 1st and 2nd down. Here's the BS INT vs the Chiefs: http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-fantasy/09000d5d82222fdd/Chiefs-defense-INT Obviously, poorly executed, and the D was ready. The point is now there's tape of BS throwing deep, so in theory an opposing DC would be unwise to look at the Wildcat formation and choose only to defend the run. 3. Someone already mentioned the small sample size re: KRs and how easily those numbers can be skewed. So anyone's argument is bull, including yours. Maybe Brad Smith is really good, and Justin Rogers is even better. JR was a rookie so it's not like they would've known he'd be better than BS, even if that is actually true. If you're saying JR makes BS expendable bc he's a better returner, JR still doesn't play emergency/Wildcat QB, nor WR in a pinch. Another poster mentioned blocking schemes and prowess compared to the Jets, and in terms of returning styles. I bet the coaches noticed that too, so perhaps we will see more out of BS this year in the return game. 4. Again, I think everyone agrees here. Not on whether the Wildcat deserves to be a part of the offense, but that we can expect to see an improvement and some diversity within the package due to added offseason time and the hiring of David Lee. 5. Lastly, I don't envision BS being a factor in re-signing Levitre and Byrd. I think they'll both get re-signed and we don't have to worry. If they don't, I'm not worried either, because so far it appears Nix is following a plan. That plan includes re-signing our good players, and I don't believe Nix would let them walk without adequate replacements. At this point, I trust him to make the right decisions, so I'll give him and the organization the benefit of the doubt for now. Well put, and much more succinct than my post. I should've just gave you a +1 or something.
  8. Sheesh! Well, at the risk of looking like a self-serving a-hole trying not to look an a-hole here goes an attempt at sentimental mash note to SDS and Co.: I'd like to extended a sincere "Thank you" for keeping 2BD and TSW up and running. It is usually the first site I go to when I hop online unless I'm doing something for work - and even then there's a good chance I have it open in another tab. Though I have only started posting relatively recently, I have lurked for years. Initially, I was just happy to have a Bills news aggregator, but over time I have grown very fond of the discussions here, and value them much more than merely reading mostly junk by the professionals. I'd like to thank all of the posters; those with whom I've interacted and had pleasant discussions, those from whom I've gained valuable insight on football and other matters just by reading their posts, and even those trolls whom are good for nothing but a laugh. Most of my friends IRL have pretty much the same opinions on stuff as I do, so coming here to hear from people with all sorts different perspectives is refreshing, entertaining, and enlightening. I saw this thread when it first started, and I thought it would quickly derail into the majority of people making fun of a few sappy professions of love for the Wall. I didn't check back til just now, so if that makes me an a-hole, so be it. I very well may be one, since it took reading those last few replies to make me reflect on how much I love this site! Thanks again, SDS, and all of you who keep the board alive. At this point, I shudder to think what I would do without this site- I'm addicted and there is no substitute for the intelligent and entertaining Bills discussion elsewhere online. Sincerely, Mike
  9. Here's a better answer - didn't see this posted already: Why Buffalo Bills WR David Nelson is Mistaken For a Tight End
  10. First, I agree with what you're saying here, but we aren't talking about the same exact thing. While the $200 M is spent on renovations, it is a part of the lease that keeps the Bills in town. If the Bills are not in town, that $10 M (from player salaries) each year disappears. So directly, the renovation doesn't pay for itself. And indirectly, it seems like the tax revenue generated by player salaries isn't enough to make it worthwhile on it's own, strictly speaking financially. To be more clear on the original argument (which I don't argue myself now that I've done some more research): Suppose without the $200 M contribution from the state, the Bills do not renew the lease and the team moves. Therefore, the state loses the taxable income from the players' game checks. Even by a the most conservative estimates, it would be about $150 M over a 15 year lease, defraying the cost of the original $200 M. I originally thought there was more revenue generated by the taxes on the players' checks, which is how I arrived at the original premise. Unless I'm missing something, you're assuming the Bills stay either way, which is certainly a possibility. If that is the case, then yes, the state doesn't make any extra money simply by contributing to the renovations. But they do stand to lose out on that taxable income, plus whatever boost it has to the local economy (if any), if without the contribution from the state, the Bills decide to relocate. I don't think anyone is arguing that the renovations in and of themselves generate revenue, but that since the state's contribution could be a deciding or major factor whether or not the Bills stay in town, one may look at the $200 M (or whatever it winds up being) as the state's cost of keeping the Bills in town. Hope that makes more sense. And, personally, I'm not arguing that the income tax from the players justifies the renovation money now that I realize it is much less than I had previously thought.
  11. I see approximately (depending on matchups/game situations) CJ- 5 rushes, 5 catches FJ - 15 rushes, 3 catches Fitz- 20ish for 30ish passing and 3-5 Wildcat plays Obviously, if when they are winning in the latter stages of games, they will be running the ball more and passing less, so perhaps 20ish total carries is a little low. I think what many are forgetting is that even if CJ and Fred are on the field at the same time frequently, they both won't get the ball on the same play. Like Chan said, no one is going to happy with their touches until the wins are tallied up.
  12. I had to step out for a while. I did look around briefly earlier and found that according to different estimates the Bills stand to generate anywhere from $10 to $25 M per year. I couldn't find definitive breakdowns. Last fall, Chris Collins said the Bills generate around $10 M per year, but many other articles cite $15-$25 M (including ESPN, Buffalo News, Albany Times-Union, Artvoice, Rochester D&C). Again, I couldn't find a basis for those numbers, so I'm not sure how there is such a discrepancy. The $400 M figure was based on what the Bills would generate in taxes over the time of a 15 year lease or something like that. Obviously, that breaks down to over $25 M per year. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the article I saw some time ago, so I could just be remembering wrong, or the author/source could've been wrong. The point I was going for is that the state stands to lose money without the Bills, so over time, the $200 M or whatever they kick in will be recouped by the taxes generated, and then some. I realize now that that may not exactly be true, and I may have just seen some creative accounting somewhere. I know the counter argument is that the people of WNY would just spend their money on other things, so the sales tax and boost to the local economy would be the same, but the player and coaches salaries simply vanish- which is a direct loss to the state. I also saw somewhere that those taxes are collected on a per game basis at a rate of around 30%- different than an annually based individual rate like you posted. Also, it would be on the Bills players' and their opponents' checks when they play in NY. When the Bills play elsewhere, their game check is taxed by that state/municipality. I have to run again, so I apologize I don't have time to dig deeper and find the actual numbers or links to back this stuff up. I'll look again later tonight, but if you or anyone else has any other insight, please enlighten us. EDIT: Guffalo- you're right about the state rates- the avg of over 30% I mentioned is based on including the federal rate as well. I still can't find the breakdown for for the taxes generated by the Bills, but it seems the approximately $9.5 M is on point with what the Bills bring in beyond the sales tax generated by fans, and could be the basis for Collins's $10 M estimate. I think the Collins may not be including the additional money cited by other articles based on the idea fans would just spend that money on other things in the area, however there are still the taxes generated by visitors from other WNY/CNY counties, PA, and Canada. Perhaps that $ isn't significant. Too bad there isn't more data readily available on this subject.
  13. EDIT: I was way off on those figures, my apologies if you read my previous post. I'll try to find accurate #s
  14. I initially thought 70/30 but then I was thinking we could see Spiller used in more of Sproles-type role which is about 50/50. That's of course assuming Fred is healthy and continues on about a 80/20 as he was last year.
  15. Great list. Surprised nobody mentioned Chucky- he can be annoying at times but his insight more than makes up for it, IMO.
  16. IDK, ask these guys http://www.patriotfiles.org/images/Hero_BiegeMartinHoltProsser.jpg +1 What was really funny is Donald Trump tweeting that the unis should be burned when his own clothing line is manufactured in China. I get that his clothes aren't made for Olympic athletes representing the US, but still... What's next, anything worn in competition has to be made in the country that the athlete represents?
  17. Well, the video was targeted for Progressives, but from the 3rd link I posted: http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/magazine/march_april_2012/features/obamas_top_50_accomplishments035755.php/
  18. I agree. I did like you suggested earlier and searched "voter fraud." Here's what I found: http://www.brennancenter.org/content/resource/policy_brief_on_the_truth_about_voter_fraud/ Thanks, I'll be sure to note that I'm held to a higher standard when I don't I agree with you.
  19. Sorry, should I parrot some made-up stuff by conservative bloggers like everyone else?
  20. It must suck to take the time to write that only to have it misunderstood and/or ignored.
  21. If you've got two minutes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCTPCWWvYDk If you've got more than two minutes, and would like to see a more comprehensive list: http://obamaachievements.org/list EDIT: Just about all of the above accomplishments have been in the first three years of his term, here's a more recent list: http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/magazine/march_april_2012/features/obamas_top_50_accomplishments035755.php/
