For those defending the play call on 3rd and 22, I most certainly wasn’t advocating for a blitz, but to rush 3 and ONLY have two inexperienced safeties deep against the fastest pair of wide outs in the league is indefensible. I criticize the call because of its timid approach. Rush four, play 2 safeties deep and have your corners play off coverage against their two star wide outs. Whatever you want to do with the remaining 3 coverage players, fine, but that was an incredibly dumb play call on 3rd and 22. Whatever. It’s over. But I’m sure the ultra conservative, timid approach will happen again this season at some point.

Since Beane and Frazier have been together, that is the very first time a team has gotten a 1st down on a 1st and 20+

It happens. The fact that the secondary they patched together only gave up one big play is remarkable

Is that Miami fans get to enjoy the win.  That’s really the only thing that upsets me.  We were the better team yesterday but the football gods decided it wasn’t our day to get a win.

    We completely dominated the game

    497 yards 31 first downs.  90 plays

    212 yards 15 first downs.  39 plays

    -Missed fg.

    -Sack/fumble led to easy 7

-We started the game extremely short handed suffered several more injuries.

-3rd and 22 bomb to waddle was 25% of their offense for the day.

    -Milano dropped pick 6.

-due to the stadium and the weather, we played at a serious disadvantage the entire game.
    - the fins corners didn’t commit one holding/pi on 63 pass attempts. Sure

    - the fins got away with several cheap shots on Allen while allen gets caught for 15 on the most crucial drive of the game.

Give the Miami D credit for bending but not breaking.  They played great red zone d.  Howard and holland are studs.  McDaniel will be there for 20+ years.  But make no mistake who the better team was yesterday and is overall.  All great teams lose games they’re supposed to win (minus one team, one season).

I ain’t worried about anything but injuries….. and posters making threads highlighting our resilience to injury.

What do you hate most about the loss?

I hate the loss for what it was: a loss to a division opponent. Miami is a good team, but it literally took all of the injuries, the weather, the mistakes by the offense, and Miami making almost every critical play they had the opportunity to make - just to win by two points.

They need to get people healthy over next few weeks. It is still early in a long season. At full strength, the Bills are the best team in the NFL. Of that I have no doubt. They will be fine.

Whether it’s a catch or not, do you honestly think there is any chance that call gets reversed?

Why doesn’t Davis (or any other Bill on the field) argue the call?

I wasn't arguing for or against a challenge or implying whether it would or would not have been overturned if it was challenged. I also am not one that has a big problem with McDermott's challenges.

I was originally replying to a poster who claimed it was contested at the point of the catch. It wasn't.

It was, as they say, a "bang-bang" play and I have no idea what Davis, or any other player, felt about it at that moment. I only know that the replay shows me that Davis did, in fact, catch the ball, tuck it away and control it, and get both feet on the turf before he lost control.

I have no idea if it would have been overturned. I do know I have seen plenty of receptions in the endzone be ruled catches that didn't show any more convincing evidence than the replays on this reception.

As I said, I have no problem agreeing to disagree.

I don’t care what still photos show…I’ve watched the replay multiple times and he never sufficiently controlled the ball and there no way that gets reversed.  It would have wasted a crucial TO.

I have watched the replay over and over myself. Here it is. The first replay after the play clearly shows Davis controlled the ball and it was not dislodged until after his second foot had already touched.

  5. Josh Allen, Bills 'take it on the chin' after dominating box score in loss to Dolphins

Allen completed 42 of 63 pass attempts for 400 yards and a touchdown. His 63 pass attempts without an interception were tied for the fourth-most pass attempts without a pick in NFL history, per Elias Sports Bureau.

The Bills lost, 21-19, despite running 90 plays to 39 for Miami, earning 497 yards to 212, gaining 31 first downs to 15 and generating a 40:40 time of possession to 19:20. It's the highest time of possession in a non-OT loss since 2014 (New York Jets' Week 7 defeat to the New England Patriots, 40:54). The 51-play differential for the Bills was the second-largest in a loss since 2000 (including playoffs), per NFL Research.

    He should have challenged it.

I've seen that same play ruled as a TD in college and pros.

If the receiver cannot maintain possession by himself it is ruled a drop.

If the defender knocks the ball out after a catch and 2 feet down, I've seen it ruled a TD.

Even Trent Green said it looked like a TD.

Was McD saving his challenges for his challenge piggy bank ? You have challenges USE THEM !!!

Davis did catch it cleanly and clearly had possession of the ball when his left foot comes down

And when his right foot comes down - before the defender dislodges the ball

    A few thoughts:

    - @eballis the man!! Appreciate the hospitality.

    - the safety was an unlucky break

    - Zack Moss should never play (despite the long run). His feet are too slow. He can’t get into the hole.

    - Miami is good

    - The Bills are way better than the Dolphins

    - I liked the anger/disappointment after the loss. They might have needed that. I legitimately thought 20-0 was on the table. They needed EVERYTHING to go wrong to lose. That’s encouraging.

    - I didn’t think that Josh was great yesterday. There were a couple of decisions that had me cringing.

    - The young secondary was fine.
    - Officiating was questionable.

    - This was Miami’s Super Bowl.
    - Josh Allen should sneak every single time the Bills need less than a yard. He weighs 240 lbs

    Good post.

    (1) Miami was playing against a team that at any given moment during the game was down 8-10 starters, (2) Josh Allen wasn't at his best, (3) The Bills' offense as a whole made critical mistake after critical mistake and left an easy 17-20 points on the field, and (4) Miami pretty much made every play they had an opportunity to make (the sack fumble, the strip of Davis, the critical throw to Waddle) and managed to score 21 pts on only two drives the entire game over 20 yds...

Miami is a good team and still managed to need every bit of the above to win by 2 points. That is encouraging.

And when Allen isn't at his best, he is still better than almost any other QBs at their best.

    No, you’re wrong.

Davis has had issues with contested plays his entire career.  For all of his size and strength he has always had difficulty fighting at the catch point.  Always.  That was 100% a catch he could and should have made.

    @Bangarang you are correct

Davis caught that ball cleanly. It wasn't contested at the catch point.

The defender got his hand on the ball

It was a good defensive play

Almost every single team on 3rd and 22 with an inexperienced secondary is playing coverage. Okay, it didn't work, Jaquan got burned. I get it. But Leslie Frazier did an excellent job with the pieces he had yesterday. He put his young players in position to make the most of what they had. They give up one play and everyone goes mad about the playcall.

Not to mention this stat that I saw in an article this morning in the Buffalo News: "It was the first time the Bills’ defense ever has given up a third-and-20 or more situation in the six years of the Sean McDermott and Leslie Frazier era, according to Buffalo News charting. Opponents had been 0-for-22 on third and 20 or more against the Bills since 2017."

It happens. And yesterday it happened under extraordinary circumstances. It doesn't diminsh the job Frazier did yesterday in any way. Frazier did an excellent job..

Just an observation, but I find it interesting that some of the same posters who worried about Miami putting up 30+ points against this defense with the players missing going into the game, are now complaining about giving up one big play....

No one can rationalize better than a Bills fan.

I mean we are talking world class ability to rationalize any situation

There is a segment of every fan base that sees things through rose colored glasses rationalizes just about everything to feel better about their team.

Just as there is a segment of every fan base that sees everything through a veil of negativity and constantly whines.

Next we will hear that it was actually a good thing that we lost.

You might not want to listen to Von Miller's post game interview where he states "A loss like this is good medicine." Of course we all know he doesn't know nearly as much about football as you do...

What I do think is our D-Line wlll be pressuring the heck out of their OL to get to tua, making him less effective downfield.

Im GLAD our fans are overtaking their stinking crib. I hope it home field advantage BUFFALO

Was wondering if we may see an aggressive gameplan given all the injuries and the fact that harassing Tua will be the name of the game.

Elam played press man primarily at Florida.  It’s why he’s taken some time to learn the zone aspects we play.

If we’re looking at forcing Tua off quick reads, I wonder if allowing Elam to do some of that against Hill/Waddle (with help over the top) wouldn’t be an interesting wrinkle to throw out there preventing free releases and forcing Tua to hold the ball a beat longer / not allow rhythm throws.

Press play and force the quick throws.
More worried about longer developing pass plays. I think we agree .

But still no one over the top. Those two guys are fast and maybe elite

I think the defense this week goes how the Dline goes. This is where I believe the investiment in the Dline and the rotation philosophy pays dividends. If they continue to get good pressure with four, it will be a longer day for Tua than what many people think. His only real strengths are getting the ball out quickly and his accuracy in the short to intermediate range. As a consequence, he does pretty well when blitzed but not so well when he faces pressure from four.

Pressure with four, good tackling, and keep the big plays to a minimum. Hill and Waddle will make plays here and there because of their speed and quickness. The ***Pats actually did a good job of giving them some yards, but not the big plays (with the exception of the one TD catch by Waddle that was pretty much all YAC).
