  1. So you only support the incredibly negative articles that get posted every 20 minutes? I can't help but feel regardless of what was said, it wasn't negative. It's kind of a breath of fresh air to see something not negative in the media. Because of this I posted the link. I think some Bills fans might enjoy something other than complete negativity.

Actually, it was a positive article. Considering the negative themes that run through most of what is written about the Bills, it is nice every once in a while to see something that has a more hopeful, positive feel to it. Glass half full...

Glad you're on our side

  4. 20 years? He thinks that's enough to talk the talk? Pffffft! Come back when you have 3x that Jerry, then we'll talk. How convenient of this 'noted' sports journalist to neglect the recent history of the defending champs from Nawlins'. 7-9 in '07 & 8-8 in '08. Granted, they didn't clean house, but they certainly tweeked the team and it's direction. Result: Super Bowl Champ in one turnaround year. They didn't tank the season to get high picks- hell, no one does. I feel bad for my beloved WNYers. You used to have great sports writers -even by national comparison. Nowadays, you make Jacksonville look good by comparison.

    Very grim.

I think sports journalism in Western New York has to hit rock bottom before it gets better :o

  5. If you could sweep any of the three divisional opponents this season, but in turn would be swept by the other two, who would you like to see us beat twice? I seriously have to think about this before I can even answer the question.

It's not a yes or no question. I'm saying if it were to happen, which team would you like to see us sweep of the three?

Just to play along...This year I would choose the Jets only to see the look on Ryan's face at the end of each game as the final seconds on the clock tick off...

  6. In another thread, I mentioned I would be happy if Tom Brady got injured. I was SHOCKED when many people were upset at this remark, and thought I was way out of line.

Am I really the only one that was happy and was high fiving people when Brady suffered that early season knee injury a couple years ago?

Do you guys not remember when Wilfork threw and intentional forearm shiv into the side of Losman's knee and injured him on purpose?

We couldn't beat the Patriots the year Brady was hurt anyways, but at least we stood a better chance. They are confirmed cheaters on many different fronts, we need any advantage we can get.

If Stroud lays a vicious sack on Brady this year and knocks him out of the game, you better believe I will be cheering my ass off about it! :)

I want my football team to be tough and physical; and I'll cheer for good, clean, hard hits as much as any fan. Injuries are part of any contact sport and a risk knowingly taken by anyone who participates - and, unfortunately, they will occur. However, I will never understand anyone who wishes for somebody to be hurt or derives any sort of pleasure from the pain and suffering of another human being. It's only a game. I'd rather my team just be better than the other team.

A few moments after the snap, you can see that because all three backs start lined up fairly far back, even though they are pass-blocking, their initial moves are all to charge forward - it still looks like a run play. Edwards adds to the affect with a play-action move.

It's easy to see that both corners (and the safety in this backfield view picture) are still looking into the backfield expecting run.

#93 Freeney isn't even heading towards Edwards - he's shooting down right along the back of the offensive line - probably looking to disrupt Spiller who he expects to be going there, but instead makes himself easy pickings for Stupar's block and is no threat at all to Edwards.

Nice breakdown of the play. Did you take stills from a video, or did you take the photos?

  8. Winning games is one thing winning credit and fan adoration is different thing.

Its a quarterback league in a big way in terms of fan adoration and celebrity,

However, the great thing about the game of NFL football is that this is a team game. Any team which attempts to focus only on what one player does ends up getting fans and some nice highlights on ESPN but does not win it all.

Micheal Vick is actually a great example of how this is a QBs league. The level of talent shown by this athlete is demonstrated by the fact with their reliance on this one player essentially they actually were good enough to make the playoffs. However, this team despite having a far and away superior athlete at QB knew it could not even run an effective O with him alone and made stupid investments like Peerless (a great idea on paper but the game is not won on paper.

In the end, this over-reliance on the QB fail prey to his inhumanity and stupidity way off the field,

He is the exception in that he is a far superior athlete to virtually all and inhuman morally to horrible levels, but this extreme case highlights the folly of confusing winning it all with making bucks.

Even the case of the best QB arguably of all time Peyton Manning was unable to win the big one without the essential support of the best GM in the game, the best kicker in the game, a defensive guru as an HC, one of the best WRs ever, a strong core of RBs and blockers. You have think that he won way more SBs than a certain 6th round pick given all the money and commercials they throw his way.

In fact it is my theory that it is the QB distraction embodies in the marketing concept of this being simply a QB league that really is at the base of our 0 for a decade playoff streak as the Bills starting with Mr. Ralph making a horrible football judgment when he made a handshake deal with Jimbo and triggered a rash of over and foolish investments in a search for the next Jimbo that is at the root of our problems.

Flat out the last time we made the playoffs was it more intelligent to allocate huge salary cap room to RJ and DF in the football stupid attempt to get the "next" QB savior or would it have been better winning football to have a relatively small amount to keep a vet on ST who would have stayed in his lane to prevent the Homerun Throw-up.

The problem we had was not that our "chosen" QB left the field with his team losing. The problem was that the QB position sucked up so much cap room we were forced to play a talented youngster on the wing on ST who got all excited and did not stay in his lane as an older vet would have done,

Not sure what this even means. Too much emphasis and money on quarterbacks? Teams win championships? Your still pissed over the Tennessee game? You forgot to take your meds?

  9. 9-7, on the playoff bubble, a break here or there, and we get in. If we do get in, we roll a bit, at least

    one playoff win.

    Agreed:

09/12 MIAMI DOLPHINS-W- Show full offensive and defensive packages. Dolphins running game is shut down and Henne struggles, 1-0

09/19 @ Green Bay Packers-L-Capers brings a host of blitz packages and offensive line struggles badly. No pressure on Rodgers and he eats up secondary with his accuracy. Offense and defense struggle, 1-1

09/26 @ New England Patriots-L –Offense plays well, defense struggles with getting pressure on Brady and he (as usual) exploits the 5-10 yard range (with many yards after the catch), 1-2

10/03 NEW YORK JETS-W-Offense struggles somewhat but defense slows jets running game and forces Sanchez into mistakes. Win the turnover battle and the game, 2-2

10/10 JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS-W –Play a sound game both ways. Edwards throws for 225+, 3-2

    10/17 BYE

10/24 @ Baltimore Ravens-L-Never play well in Baltimore and that continues. Game to forget, 3-3

10/31 @ Kansas City Chiefs-W-Defense and offense rebound after poor Baltimore game and play well on both sides of the ball – in particular, a big day rushing the football, 4-3

11/07 CHICAGO BEARS (Toronto)-W- Both defense and offense beginning to feel comfortable in the new systems. Solid game, 5-3

    11/14 DETROIT LIONS-W-Good play continues, 6-3

11/21 @ Cincinnati Bengals-L-Team plays well but can’t seem to get enough pressure on Palmer and lose a tough game, 6-4

11/28 PITTSBURGH STEELERS-L-Team plays well again but loses a heartbreaker, 6-5

12/05 @ Minnesota Vikings-L-Defense struggles against both the run and the pass, 6-6

12/12 CLEVELAND BROWNS-W-Team ends 3 game losing streak with dominating defensive performance, 7-6

12/19 @ Miami Dolphins-W-Continue winning ways and Edwards has a big day, 8-6

12/26 NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS-W-Team smells playoff berth, confidence has grown, and tremendous 12th man presence in the stadium. Finally get past Patriots with an inspired game, 9-6

01/02 @ New York Jets-L-Team goes into Jets new stadium with chance at playoff berth, but lose a tough game, 9-7

  10. Uh, what? No. I'm saying they wasted 2 draft picks, which sucks. I'm not saying we're going 0-16 or that we should all boycot the team. But the fact that they hit on some UDFAs doesn't excuse it. And the fact that they're 7th round picks doesn't excuse it, either. We have Bell and Steve Johnson starting right now. This roster can't afford too many draft day misses.

The draft isn't an exact science. One can be the greatest talent evaluator in the NFL and still "miss" on a draft pick - because nobody really knows until the players get to camp. Some perform as expected, some surprise, and some disappoint. Calling out the front office as "wasting" a draft pick and insinuating they didn't do their jobs properly (all done in hindsight no less) - on a 7th round pick (or any round for that matter) - is rediculous. By your logic, the skills of the scouting staffs of every NFL team are suspect - because they all "miss" on draft picks. It's the nature of the process.

  11. OK I think that Gailey is saying and doing all the right things. BUT I just don't know if he is the coach that is going to lead us back to the playoffs. I mean so far pre-season we have looked good but its pre-season its still meaningless. If I look at what Gailey has done in the past it doesn't inspire much confidence. Since getting canned by Dallas (After a somewhat successful stint there) he hasn't done much.

His record with Miami isn't impressive (they improved after he left), his record with Georgia Tech isn't impressive either (They improved a lot after he left), and KC wasn't that good and even though they got slightly worse after he left Tony Gonzales also left which was more likely due to their slight decline.

All in all I hope for the best but just because Gailey is better then Jauron doesn't mean he is going to work out.

  12. pretty thin skinned there arent ya paul costa? dick cunninham? paul guidry? remi prudhomme (played both ol and dl!)?

i worked for twenty years in corporate america, the last handful as an executive. do i get offended or upset when people call those kinds of people generally soulless automatons so lost in their godlike worship of money and social status that they become empty shells of people devoid of sensitivity and compassion focused on only the most superficial elements of life as they claw and scratch their way to the front of the rat race even though when they get there they will find it completely lacking in the kind of internal satisfaction they were so desperately looking for leaving them gasping for any kind of semblance of meaning in their wretched lives?

heck no, cuz its usually me making those observations

being under the microscope and criticized unfairly is part of the life celebs choose. sure, it would be great if people werent like that, but they are. you either deal with it, do something about it, or choose other pastures to graze in. what does saying 'hey i used to be one and you guys suck' accomplish? its like the guys around here who announce they are finished with this team and are leaving - thats cool but just go. if youre not actually going to do something to try to make it better than i dont need to hear that youre leaving

people do generally suck, but celebs bring a ton of that upon themselves too. all the money (least nowadays) and attention is like a drug. and just like other addicts, celebs get fooled into thinking their status has something to do with how great they are, so usually they turn into self centered douchebags who cant relate to the average joe. same thing with corporate execs, actually. not always, of course, but enough that the people in those circle self-perpetuate the poisoning of their spiritual selves and cementing the douchebaggery among most of them

thats the reason i dont buy or wear current players jerseys, because i refuse to stoke the hero worshipping sickness that entraps a great many fans and players. celebs are just people, usually (not always) attention craving messed up people, but people nonetheless. im not going to feed their addiction, nor am i gonna feed mine. i will watch, i will root, and i will pay to attend games, but i wont put the humans involved on any kind of pedestal. they really become more like two dimensional cartoon characters, which is pretty much the same impact they have on my life. if they dont want to get to know me as a person and like me for it then why would i want to make them a hero in my life?

so go in peace. but next time dont announce when youre leaving. if youve really had your fill you dont need to tell everybody about it

    e. e. cummings?

  13. The Trent haters are beginning to be beside themselves in spasms of confused and illogical arguments about their 'knowledge' that Trent is destined to be a colossal failure in the NFL.

He may never blossom into a top tier NFL QB - with liberal thanks and an f-youse to Jauron's mishandling of his early development. But even the Chan haters have to see the difference so far in how a real HC and OC can make with respect to the development of an NFL QB.

There are no guarantees, but at least IMHO, Chan has righted The Bills and Trent's ship. May that continue. Go Bills!

    Fixed it for you.

    Thanks

  14. If Chan is not going to give Brohm a real chance then I say start Fitz. He has wheels and he is a scrapper. With a team as young as the Bills and with all the changes going on we need a knife fighter as oppose to someone that seems polished in early preseason quarters. Fitz showed excellent team command and evade against Cincy and showed a ton of heart last year and has no probs chucking down field. Trent shuts down when the Sh*t hits the fan (or his head). In fairness Trent potentially could be the golden cog in a smooth running machine but we are a long ways from that. We will win based on ballsy calls, "fundamentals" -Chan, and being more violent than the opposition. I say start Brohm next week to see his fight if he fails roll with Fitz. Otherwise expect more well-thought-out post loss speeches from Trent that will ease your pain as we look to the next season. LETS GO BILLS!!!

How Trent Edwards has compared to some other quarterbacks (Not an all inclusive list) who have played against STARTING defenses this preseason. And Edwards has done it...under a new system...behind an offensive line that, shall we say, has issues..with a receiving corps that has one established veteran...etc....etc...etc...
