  1. Good lord really? Do we want to go back to that same draft and look at who you fell in love with? You wanted Dan Lefevour in the second. At least Clausen is still on a team.

Actually why don't we go back over every one of your posts and count the millions of ways you were wrong. You've been saying 10 wins per season for the last 5 years...those who live in glass houses. Ballsy to be so ignorant.

Sorry, but you have gone on and on about how much you know, and that is how you can be so certain about Manuel. Understand that it is your tone of certainty, which comes off as a little arrogant, that most posters on this board have taken issue with - not your opinion. You brought up other QBs (that have turned out to be failures) that you also did not like when they were drafted - just to bolster your credibility. Don't deflect now that you have been called out on a QB you were clearly wrong about. Your opinion of Clausen only shows what you should already know: when it comes to the draft, you, nor anyone else, has any idea which draft picks will flourish and which ones will be looking for new employment within a year.

  2. Hey, i could be all wrong about the current O line talent on the roster, no question about it. The offense might actually become better under an ex NFL O linemen in Doug Marrone then it was under Chan Gailey. I don't claim to be a scout of any sort and am certainly not a GM.

I just go by what my eyes tell me, and my eyes tell me that Gailey managed to field a team with an acceptable O line mainly because of his QB and the schemes he ran. That QB is now gone, and so is the starting left OG that played well since his rookie year in 2009, and was never injured, is now also gone.

Starting RT Erik Pears, back up RT Chris Hairston and C Eric Wood all appear to be somewhat injury prone. Hairston has never played a full season and neither has the best player on that line in C Eric Wood. Which to me, the latter is very disconcerting because in his four years he has never finished a season. The reason I find it so disconcerting is because that line plays so much worse after Wood goes down ever year.

Like I've stated in other posts my idea of building a proper offense starts with the line, and I firmly believe you can't win games in this league with a sub par O line. Not with cast offs from the waiver wire, and injury prone players. Band-aids don't work, and they never will!

I look at the 49ers and how they built that line with Three, 1st rounders, and 2 second rounders in 2009. Lost a starting center in 2010 and picked up a 10 year vet, a pro bowler to replace him. Lost a starting right OG and replaced him with a LT. Lost that LT / OG and replaced him with a 3 year player OG that was second team all-NFL last season.

I like the Buffalo Bills and want them to win games, win the division, win the SB. If this franchise had put as much effort and player talent into the O line as they have the defensive backfield the last 13 years. 30+ DB's drafted, and even more players in and out like a revolving door for that line. I feel they would have given the QB's better protection and would have had an chance at least field a team with a winning record.

Enough said. There are opinions and then there are educated opinions. I'll trust the actual scouts and GM...and I'll throw in the coaching staff too.

  3. I wish that we're true, but I hated the Troupe, Maybin, Aaron Williams, Losman, Whitner, Johnny White, and Sheppard selections when they were made, too. We all know how those came out.

And the Bills front office hasn't hired you as a consultant yet? Amazing...they really are inept!

  4. Haha. No worries. It gets tiresome though, doesn't it? There is nothing dumber than rushing to conclusions on draft picks the day after they are made.

I don't see how people can fault the Bills' thought process here. They traded down, got more picks, and got the top qb on THEIR board. Now whether or not, he is the right guy is another story. But to even risk losing their top QB to pick up an extra 3rd pick is just stupid.

Amen. I have no idea if he will be a great quarterback, a bust, or something in between. I do not posess any psychic powers and I do not have a crystal ball with which I can gaze into the future (if I did, I would be looking at financial investments instead of NFL draft picks). The point is, I have no problem with an opinion; good, bad, or indifferent. What annoys me is when people make the leap from opinion to statements of fact: He definitely would have been there at the end of the first or in the second; he will never be a good quarterback; etc., etc. ad nauseum.

    Just a little tiring...

  5. Regardless of who the Bills select as a QB, unless it is #8 and the first QB off the board, that is likely to be the verbatim post draft statement and mantra from everyone associated with the team, and they will go on to say it was consensus.

It's also likely to be utter bullshhit. Of course, it's possible that it is true, and they lucked out, and they were all in agreement, but it is something we fans will likely never ever know.

There is even a decent chance that if they take one at 41, and they say he was the guy they wanted all along, he could have been the 3rd or 4th or even 5th rated QB on their board.

The chances are also highly likely that these guys are bunched up very closely. And between five QBs they may have one rated 84, one 83, one 82, etc (or whatever their system is).

Add that to the fact that depending on who they draft at #8, the qualities of the QB and who they like may slightly change. For example, if, say, they were smitten with Patterson or Austin, and took one of them at #8, they may (repeat may) be more inclined to want to draft a guy with a bigger arm like Glennon, Bray, Jones, etc. If they draft Eifert, they may want a guy who will spread it around a little better. If they draft a lineman, Barkley and his rag arm may not be as big of an issue as they may want to run the ball more and his slightly better smarts may slightly outweigh another's slightly better arm.

We don't know, and they don't know, who is going to be available when their pick comes up, and what they are willing to give up to move up when they inevitably make calls to.

The only thing we do know is, in retrospect, "this was the guy we wanted all along", and fans, including myself, will likely use some of those quotes in years to come as back-up for our posts.

It just won't likely be true. ;)

Isn't this pretty much true for every team in the NFL? Can't really recall the last time I heard a GM, coach, etc. say "We never really wanted this guy and he'll probably be out of the NFL by our next draft."

  6. Oh wait..He is athletic, He can RUN and gun.

No argument with you there. My response was not a defense of Nassib - it was simply to point out that the level of college competion, while important in some respects, should not be the deciding factor in whether or not Nassib (or any quarterback) succeeds in the NFL. The poster I was responding to said nothing about his skills (or lack thereof) - just that he played a weak schedule in college.

  7. Buffalo`s high powered QB ryan Nassib. He finds out NFL defenses are more complex and faster than the Stony Brook Sea Wolves,Minny`s Golden Gophers,Connecticut Huskies, Temple Hoot owls and Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Geesh what a high powered schedule.

I know...just look how Kaepernick struggled adjusting to NFL defenses from the likes of the Idaho Vandals, New Mexico State Aggies, San Jose State Spartans, Utah Utes, etc..etc...

    Oh wait...

  8. Oh my goodness! It's great to be excited, but I think it's a bit premature considering they don't play a game that counts for another 8 months, haven't completed their coaching staff, haven't resigned Jairus Byrd and Andy Levitre yet, have serious flaws at QB, linebacker, cornerback, and the wide receiver positons, and haven't signed any free agents or drafted yet, nor found a viable replacement for Fitzpatrick. If the Bills keep Fitzpatrick as a starter I think their ceiling is about 8-8, but most likely 6 or 7 wins. In a year with many changes including a change of culture at One Bills Drive I think it's best to make sweeping changes now so the team can move forward in unison. That includes unloading baggage ie: Fitz, Thigpen, & the irrevelant Tavaris Jackson or whatever his name is in which our genius Buddy gave up a 4th round draft pick for despite the QB's inability to learn the playbook! Anyways, I'm happy we moved on from Gailey, but we have a very flawed roster and have a long way to go until we're playoff bound! I also have serious reservations about Buddy's ability to draft appropriately, which may not be consistent with what others feel? All I know is when we had the opportunity to take Russel Wilson in my little Draft War Room..I was ready to pounce and select him, the same goes with Colin Kaepernick as he was a no brainer in my mind, as well as Bryan Orakapo a few years back, that had to p-mee off more than any other non-pick when it occurred..when he was available I was excited, then mad as heck when they bypassed him! There are so many other examples..and even though I now like Spiller a lot I wouldn't have picked him quite honestly because there were higher needs and I still believe it wasn't the right pick as rb's shelf life is short and by the time the Bills (may) become relevant in the league again, he may very well be on the downside or out of the NFL. If Buddy would've taken a QB instead and built around him it is more likely by now we would've already been somewhat relative, and instead of rebuilding Chan Gailey might have been talking about how we just missed the playoffs at 9-7 with high expectations going into next year! So, in a league of mediocrity including its coaches I just don't understand the excitement at this juncture, but am happy that someone else can feel that way after a 6-10 season with deep positional concerns!

    Zoloft...

  9. I have not even seen this mentioned on here. Everyone wants CJ to be "the guy" and get all the carries and doesn't Fred etc. Well, CJ got his chance against the Jets and had 24 carries for 59 yards. The only good play he had was on the pass from Fitz that he ran with. Everyone was so freaked out over the Fish game, where he had some good runs, but finished 23 carries for 91 yard or so.

This tells me he is not "the guy" that can get the bulk of the carries. He needs another guy like Fred to pound and then come in and get the big runs. He can be very effective as long as he not the only guy in there running between the tackles.

Twice this year, Adrian Peterson had games where he gained 86 yards on 25 carries...as well as three or four others with almost equally modest numbers. When a team puts 8 - 9 men in the box to stop the run, they can generally stop the run. Particularly when they have absolutely no fear of the passing game

  10. no, photographers generally write the cutlines. they're moved with each photo. could be that the website editor made the mistake, but how does that make this my mistake. i didn't write the cutline. i don't manage the web page. my byline's on the page, but i have no control with what happens with my stories once they move on the wire. some are chopped. some are edited. some move as is, be it on the web or in newspapers.

i don't see what the big deal is. i'm merely wondering how Bills fans can't spell the name of a star player, while criticizing someone having a point of view.

it's an opinion. it's open to being debated. but to call it "garbage" or being "mailed in," well i beg to differ. that's up for debate, too. me choosing to provide my point of view isn't unreasonable either. and that i chose to do it in this method is fair, i think.

    what's the big deal.

I do not dislike Jerry Sullivan (I have never met him) and I have no problem with him offering his opinion, point of view, perspective, etc., regarding the Bills. However, what I do not like (and this is just my perception) is the condescending tone with which he delivers his opinions in far too many of his articles.

  11. Michael Vick didn't need to throw those two balls into coverage, and Avant fumbled TWICE, which is rare for any receiver. The Patriots have been masterful at taking what we did first meeting and neutering us the second. Teams in the NFL adjust to what their opponent is doing, and therefore when teams don't make the really bad throw or hold onto the ball, then our defense will be up against it.

All I can say is games 6-16 and beyond (?) will tell the tale.

What happened in the Cincinnati game when a rookie QB marched the ball down the field?

Sometimes they came up big when needed... and if you've been playing attention, our turnovers have stemmed not from pressure, but a distinct plan to jump up and bat balls down and to try and force fumbles. Pressure on the opposing QB has been few and far between...

Michael Vick threw two interceptions because of pressure and Avant didn't fumble the ball twice...it was stripped from him...twice. I'd say that is "forcing" turnovers

  12. I really don't get this post. The Bills' defense was horrible last year. They took steps to make it better; however, it is hard to turn something so bad into something good overnight. It typically takes some time. Consequently, we had a pretty good idea that the defense was still going to have problems this year. That is one of the reasons why most people on this board and elsewhere predicted this team would be fortunate to win 5 or 6 games at best this year (and many predicted the team to finish first in the 2012 Luck sweepstakes). Now, here we sit, five games into the season, with the team 4 -1, and some people are predicting the team will not be able to sustain winning with their defense. The defense is what it is. It shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. But, they have found a way to compensate for their defensive shortcomings by forcing turnovers and making big defensive plays at key moments - and by playing very good football on the offensive side of the ball.

They weren't supposed to beat the Raiders because of their vaunted running game...but they did. They weren't supposed to beat the Patriots because of their unstoppable passing game...but they did. They weren't supposed to beat a desperate, Eagles team that, offensively, can be as diverse and potent as any team in the game...but they did. In fact, this team has found a way to win 4 out of 5 games with this defense. What more can you ask for?

  13. Maenwhile that Best guy in Detroit is running wild attimes. Think he was drafted about 20 pix later than CJ and also was thought to be only a 3rd down scat back type....

Best just had his first 100 yd game of his career last night - as the featured back in their offense. Whether or not you agree with where Spiller was selected, it is what it is. Done. Over. Can't change it. He is here now and it is clear he has some major talent. Gailey is a good offensive mind and if anyone can find a way to get Spiller to manifest that talent into something productive on the field, it is Gailey. I'm willing to wait and see. In the meantime, it is not such a bad thing he continues to learn behind someone like Jackson.

  14. Remember that season well and still have games on video tape (actually, have over 100 games on VHS from 1987 - 2000 sitting in a box in a closet) :). Not sure about the parallels in terms of players; however, I definitely think there is a similarity in the feel of a young team on the verge of taking bigger steps...

  15. Fig, what the league and officials are expecting Defensive players to do is KEEP THEIR HEAD UP, and tackle with proper form.

Dunta Robinson just gave us a classic example of how NOT to tackle.

Here is the clip, notice that his head is so low that his chin is tucked into his chest. That is extremely dangerous for not only the WR, but also for the tackler. The old rule is "If you are looking at the ground, you will end up there, injured".

You must must must be able to SEE what you are hitting.

Robinson came in using the top of his helmet as a weapon, and launched his helmet and shoulder into the WR.

That is NOT how you're supposed to tackle. That goes against EVERY tackling form rule they teach since Pop Warner.

Head up, lead with your facemask/shoulder, WRAP and DRIVE. The worst part is, when Maclin catches the ball, Robinson is in good position and in good form to use proper tackling. He CHOOSES at the last second to turn himself into a missile and launch into Maclin.

Had he used proper tackling form, Robinson could have had an even BIGGER hit on Maclin, and not be $40k lighter.

It's lazy and stupid on the defenders part, and they need to be fined/suspended.

    youtube.com/watch?v=fB6TEXTJceo

Agree 100%. Proper tackling has gone by the wayside and has been replaced with the hope of an ESPN highlight hit. Hate it.

  16. I am not trying to pull a fast one on old 1959 or be cryptic or afraid of an intellectual battle with you; you're making some assumptions above so go ahead and continue to do so. My response on utility was 100% accurate, it is a fungible concept and its true definition resides within the economic unit/individual, the science is applied through indifference curves and the measurement of opportunity costs. Back to the genesis of my original post as it was only about my candid observation on this Bills team and now it has digressed as a result of individuals, such as you, believing I am making a personal attack on the team and its fans. Did you ever think it is a personal attack on my senses and football acumen when numerous people on this website post garbage like no respect from ESPN, 12-4, going to kill the Pats, Brady sucks, hidden agendas led by Adam Schafter/Chris Mortensen & Co.etc.? As the *2Evans gentleman so accurately stated, there is only so far a team built on cast offs, URFAs, and late rounders can go; somebody, maybe even you, point to a SuperBowl team built on such a roster? Have we sunken to such a level where mere competitiveness in a diluted league has become the ultimate goal? It sure isn't for me!

Pass the Pipe, I do not have a problem at all with your original post, I really do not. Nor do I have any problem with your views about this team or what it will or will not accomplish. You are entitled to your views and beliefs and to present them on this board - and I think you try to provide a basis for your opinions and beliefs. I do have a problem, as you do, with a number of the posts you mentioned - they are offensive. In the same respect, the specific post of yours that I had a problem with was one in which I believed you were personally insulting. As a matter of fact, all of my posts in this thread have been on that topic - and I typically do not post a lot. I wasn't trying to single you out as a serious offender (it was just the one post I responded to, and I responded to others as well) and I am not trying to be the civility police here. I understand passion and the occasional emotional responses that are going to happen: It just seems that there could be a higher level of overall civility on this board, which is supposed to consist of fans of the same team with the same wishes for success. That's all. Not on a crusade and won't interrupt your thread anymore.

  17. no one wants their personal life attacked. no one. it's crossing the line, message board or not.

So, we do finally agree on this? And do you not think calling people idiots, their beliefs a "joke," and insinuating that they are stupid or intellectually inferior to be personal attacks?

  18. lolol that's the most pathetic retort i've read in my entire life. as if my prediction of a 6-8 win Bills season has ANYTHING to do with my real life. "little respect or control in real life"?? i have a beautiful fiance, a 3.9 in grad school, and an awesome friend/family base. you can go !@#$ yourself.

Then why are you so angry?

  19. I posted this in another thread a couple weeks ago. It applies to what you are asking. They need to make themselves feel better about their real life.

    :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

lol where the !@#$ did i say that? the people on here are regular people like you and i. football and sports in general is a huge part of many of our lives, and if one is delusional enough to predict SUPER BOWL type of bull **** for the 2002-2010 Buffalo Bills, than I question your head is at. bottomline.

    Why so serious?

  20. right, so no one directly. if you were predicting 11-5 last year, let's just say i'm sure as !@#$ not going to be coming to you for financial/business/life advice.

keep pounding your head i guess. you have 2 groups of people calling each other idiots. while arguing the same points, one group has been right on for 10 years, the other has been dead !@#$ing wrong. so who's the idiot?

My point is this: Why does anyone have to be calling anyone else an idiot? Sorry, just don't get it.
