  1. haha idk man, but i definitely was guilty of getting "swept up" and certainly still am, but the cowboys collapse and mckelvin's fumble took a lot out of me. now, my expectations are a bit lower until i see some proof on the field. i'm a superfan like the rest of this board, and get emotionally invested to the point i feel like i'm about to stroke out (see this past Sunday) - but in times like last year when the team is really bad, i just tune them out and remember there are other things in life. getting super jacked up and then super down just doesn't do it for me, i'd rather keep an even keel.

    i don't think i've insulted anyone directly, have i?

I'm thinking calling people idiots and insinuating they have the maturity/intellect of a 14 year old (unless, of course, you were referring to 14 year old prodigies) sort of qualifies...

  2. That's where you have it wrong - I'm enjoying it a great deal. I think this team is definitely on the up and the Oakland win is not a game the '09 or '10 Bills would've won. With that said, I'm not blowing my wad yet over an 2-0 start, especially when you're about to face the game's best player who has OWNED you for 8 years and is setting records with his early season performance. For me, it's just about having realistic and tempered expectations - that's all. When I see that we "should" beat the Pats and "should" go 12-4, I naturally assume the person is A. suffering from the complex/effect discussed above, or B. 14 years old.

Wrong. Maybe for some people that's the case, but not for me - not my style. My predicting is simply a product of what I see and what I know. Is it possible that an offense put together by journeymen, URFAs, and 7th rounder can lead a top 5 unit to a 11-5 record? - sure. Is it likely? - god no.

You're making an assumption that I like predicting a 6-8 win season. That's just not true at all.

You have the right to believe whatever you want about the ability of this team and how they will fare this year. My question is why do you seem to take it so personally when others disagree with you - to the point of personally insulting them? Are their opinions taking away any paychecks, preventing your chances for advancement in your job, removing food from your family's table, or otherwise affecting you in some way personally? Just trying to understand.

  3. I am not saying we get to the play offs. I am not saying we are going to win the whole show. However, I am sure in 99 when the rams were voted worst team of the decade they had guys saying that could be their year. I am sure they had their own share of moaners saying they were crap. I am not saying we are the Rams but.... we could be. I have already spoken to the OP and though I see why he's down on the Bills I also see that he would LOVE to be wrong. You or I do not KNOW how this year will play out. NO-ONE does. Why not enjoy it while it lasts instead of being down on those who are? Why not be an "idiot"? You may just like it!

    Amen

  4. Not the purpose of this forum; but a hint is a concept in economics known as utility.

Nice try. In your post, you stated "I think your attempt of being cerebral is cute and probably shows some economic potential, but I am probably not far off in assuming that you have not fully maximized this crude intellect into anything one would consider productive from the standpoint of wealth creation, which doesn't necessarily mean the accumulation of money or material assets." Inherent in this post is (1) a view of yourself as being intellectually superior to the poster you are referring to, and (2) that because of the poster's intellectual inferiority, he would not be considered "productive" from the perspective of wealth creation. You have also continually championed the confidence of your accuracy in your assessments. While this might not be the forum for it, you brought it up. So, I think it is fair to ask you for a simple definition of what you are specifically referring to as wealth creation in the context of your post, and the criteria by which you determine whether or not someone is productive or unproductive. In that way, the poster you were referring to will have the opportunity to test the accuracy of your assessment.

  5. Again, review my history of prospective analysis regarding the direction of the team, coaching hires, critique of players including free agents and draft picks. I think your attempt of being cerebral is cute and probably shows some economic potential, but I am probably not far off in assuming that you have not fully maximized this crude intellect into anything one would consider productive from the standpoint of wealth creation, which doesn't necessarily mean the accumulation of money or material assets.

Please enlighten us on your definition of wealth creation and the criteria by which one is determined to be productive or unproductive. I really am curious.

  6. Not poking the bear here, but couldnt we apply Dunning-Kruger to the rose colored glasses wearing faction(s) of twobillsdrive as well as the tea part...err, I mean realists? Just throwing it out there - you gotta be tipping a little sideways to postulate the following:

    * Gailey is playing possum with Merriman targetting the Patriots game to spring his trap

    * The Bills will, (not might), will go 14-2

I think everyone just needs to own up to their dysfunctionality being a result of supporting and following a brainnumbingly frustrating organization based in a city that already has an overactive inferiority complex on the national stage....Heretofore coined, "Bills Syndrome"

Actually, the truth is this: No matter where you fall on the spectrum in your thoughts about this team, if you are a passionate fan of the Bills (or any team), there are no such things as completely "objective" opinions. They will always be subjective to some degree and colored by any number of factors - and in the end, will remain merely what they are: opinions. Intelligent people can (and often do) disagree on evaluations of the same information. That is fine. It is the way in which some of these opinions are offered as "fact," and the condescending way in which those who disagree are dismissed as being intellectually inferior in some way, that is frustrating at times.

See my previous post. Pure condescension...and not really necessary, informative, or productive.

  7. Gentlemen (using the term loosely):

To be clear, I am very confident in my capabilities and observations regarding this team and my previous posting track record speaks for itself. Also, I actually enjoy the insults and emotional outbursts in reaction to my objective observations as I look at this place somewhat through the lens of a science experiment on the human psyche.

Back to the business at hand, I have no issue with Marv Levy professionally and personally, but his performance as a General Manager was nothing short of abysmal and he should be held accountable for it! If I recall correctly, he was somewhat in disagreement with the current direction of the team according to an article in a Syracuse paper, which is egotistical to say the least. My main points of contention are that this reclamation project could have been further along with more aggressiveness in the free agent market and a selection of Brian Buluga vs. CJ Spiller, but make no mistake I am on board and satisfied with the progress of the team. Also, Chan Gailey is without question the best thing that has happen to this team in the last ten years and he deserves a pay upgrade immediately; I greatly thank Cowher and Shanahan respectively for not taking the job, but everybody has to agree Shanahan certainly knows what he is doing!

Lastly, great point by the poster indicating that the secondary benefited immensely last year from the weak run defense. The secondary and lack of pass rush will have nowhere to hide on Sunday, this is not a below average quarterback and three back-ups in the receiving core, give the points and take the Pats!

Thought you would be interested to know that there has been considerable research on the correlation between confidence level and the accuracy of observations...and, interestingly enough...there is none.

    Just sayin'

  8. So far this year, Brady and the pats offense look unstoppable. They picked apart two respectable defenses already, and theyre coming to OUR house, for probably the biggest game this team has had in years. Truth is, i don't think we will stop Brady. I don't think any defense can truly STOP this offense. However, i do think we can win this game.

How though? That remains the question. Well, quite frankly, i am not high on this Pats defense, and i think we can put up points on them. We need to RUN the ball, early and often. Our run game has been unstoppable so far, and we'll need more of the same on Sunday.Sustain long drives, don't let Brady hit the field.I have every bit of confidence in our offense that we will be able to put up points.

The biggest factor of the game however will be turnovers. We cannot afford to turn the ball over. An offense as good at the Patriots will take advantage of those all day. If our D can force a turnover or two, and we protect and pound the football all day, i think we have a fair shot at ending this streak, and winning the biggest game of the last 6 years.

    I Billieve! GO Bills!

I want to see the Bills play sound, fundamental football in all phases of the game, with no turnovers, period. If they do that, then they have a chance to win. I would love to see them win as much as any other fan. However, if they play a complete football game to their abilities and do not win, it will still give me a pretty good idea of where this team is at. I have been a passionate Bills fan since I was old enough to understand the game (44 years now), went to my first game in 1968, was a season ticket holder when I lived close enough to attend games, and have lived through highs of highs and lows of lows. This is an improving team that is gaining confidence and developing a winning attitude - and they have given us two great games to start the season. As a fan, they have given me hope and optimism again. The results of the game this weekend is not going to change that one bit. Considering, before the season started, the vast majority of posters had this team, at best, with a .500 record (and many had us in the Luck sweepstakes), I would think far more fans would be happier than they are.

  9. You know hope, I am pretty sure you have seen the posts around here proclaiming the Bills will go 12-4, 11-5, etc. - which we must admit is naivity at it's best or merely a continued slow burn of the alcohol consumed a couple of days ago. The team is undoubtedly headed in the right direction, but so was the Titanic when it met up with the iceburg on that fateful evening in April of 1912. Much like the passengers of that doomed voyage, Bill's fans are marveling at the beauty of it's bandwagon at current...undoubtedly to be let down by the iceburgs on our schedule.

I think all Bills fans are enjoying a fun victory and the mere fact we can watch them and not blanch with every dropback, but the fact remains, our team is too thin on All Pro level talent to challange the real teams of the NFL.

Really would like to respond in depth to this kind of thinking...but I'll just say I don't get it

And I hope I never do...

  10. I watched about half of the SD/NE game, and SD rushed 3 for most of it. WTF? Its been years since the 'to beat Brady all you have to do is sack him' gameplan was discovered. Why do teams still refuse to get after him? Its assinine.

The first two weeks I got teh feeling we were holding back on our pass rush to stop the run. I hope that is the case. I want to see WMD ripping titties Sunday.

Because you have to have the talent to not only get pressure on him through blitzes and four man rushes, but to also have great man to man coverage on the wide receivers and linebackers that can cover underneath - and very few teams have it (i.e., Jets, Ravens). If we go after him, we better be able to get to him - or at least force him to get rid of it quick. If we don't - it will be a track meet. In which case it will be who executes better and makes the least amount of mistakes.

I know this much though, through the years, Brady (pressure or no pressure) has absolutely feasted on our defense with the 5-7 yard pass over the middle...I am tired of seeing Wes Welker and their tight ends running absolutely free in that range. If we can defense that area better, then it is a step in the right direction.

With all that said. New England is a better team than we are (until proven otherwise); however they are not unbeatable. We have an improving team developing confidence and a winning attitude. If they play sound, fundamental football and don't turn the ball over, then we have a chance...

  11. Being at the game yesterday, and finally experiencing a win like that, would usually put me in a great mood and optimistic for the season. But, I still can't shake the season we had a few years back when we started off great, and finished 7-9.

Really, how is this season any different. We crushed a team that Lions equally crushed the following week. We barely beat a team that is completely one dimensional. They ran three plays. Draw, Screen, Deep Throw. And we couldn't stop any of them. They only punted 3 times! We rarely ran a safety over the top because we were so stacked against the run, and still couldn't stop them. Our DB's were in man with no support against average WR's and got owned. End of the day, we gave up 35 points at home, against the Raiders. I'm not knocking the Raiders, but 35 points? Even they were surprised they scored that much.

Yes, our O-Line has been a pleasant surprise and we have been able to move the ball passing. But we also are very transparent with our plays. We pass with empty backfields and overstack runs. Good defenses are going to be able to beat that.

I fully expect us to get pounded against the Patriots, beat the Bengals, and watch everyone talk about the surprise Bills at 3-1. But even then, who will we have beaten.

We have an easy schedule right now, our O is doing good, but not good enough to offset our crap D. We are still a .500 team at best. I'm still predicting an 8-8 record for this season.

Also, anyone else nervous about all the Fitx extension talk? Remember last time we had this start and we extended Jauron....

    Flame away.

Remember Red, hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies...Fear can hold you prisoner, Hope can set you free...

  12. Not sure if you noticed but the boards are filled with ridiculous threads about how after 2 weeks the Bills lead the NFL in rushing, scoring, best record and lot of them are saying I told you so. I've rarely seen, "I told you so" threads from people who are realistic on these boards and you'd be hard pressed to find one that I've started. So your basing this off of nothing?

I can tell you this, I will take no enjoyment in a Bills loss against the Pats. Going into the game I have my thoughts and if you don't at least share in those same thoughts you are a delusional poster (don't worry, you have some company here). But don't go assuming that I started this thread as a set up for next week becasue it's completely baseless asinine.

This is reality: We have been a very bad football team for a very long time for a variety of reasons. Rebuilding a bad team into a "long term" competitive playoff team takes a little time (and luck...and other factors). I like what I have seen from Buddy Nix and Chan Gaily. They have drastically improved this team already (in more ways than just personnel decisions). They are at least fun to watch again, so, if some fans on this site want to enjoy what they have witnessed the first two weeks and post "ridiculous" threads about our stats at the moment - let them enjoy. We all know the Patriots are still a better team and the odds are they will probably win on Sunday. However, we are an improving team and they are not unbeatable, so, it certainly is possible we could win on Sunday.

And if by some chance we do win the game on Sunday, I hope you take a day or two to enjoy it before you start thinking about how we are not built to beat the Jets...or the Steelers...or the Ravens...or the...

  13. There is a difference between "overtime matchup"...there were two games... one was a regular game..one was overtime..

Did it really need to boil down to semantics? Clearly, matchup means GAME.. Have you ever spoke about somebodies performance based solely on overtime? I never have... Seems pretty silly to me lol

Yea sure... Orton completed a lot of underneath stuff... I'm sure Fitzpatrick will too. Raiders have always been a "ebdn but don't break" defense. I have never seen them have a truly dominant, shut down D. I've been a Raider fan for about 27 years.

IDK? I'm sure I would have as much trouble explaining this to you as you would explaining how the Bills with the emerging career of a lifelong journeyman QB had his team in the bottom third of all team passing stats?

So much for that VAUNTED passing attack...

Hey, I will just take a page right out of the Bills Homer's Textbook... "That was LAST SEASON... This is 2011 and we are THE NUMBER ONE RUSHING DEFENSE IN THE LEAGUE!!"

    WOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH [/Ric Flair]

Why would I explain that? I'm not here hyping my very average QB

hey, I have a question for you....

How did you feel after the 2003 season opener...???

OOOOOOHHHHHHH ... I know THAT one stung.....

2003? Really? Well since we are taking a stroll down memory lane, let me see, how did I feel after the 2003 home opener?

    1. Not nearly as happy as I was after the beatdown of the 1990 Bills/Raiders AFC Championship game (And I know that one stung)

    2. Almost as happy as I was after the 1994 Bills/Raiders AFC Div Playoff game

    3. A little happier than I was after watching the fourth quarter annihilation in the 1990 Bills/Raiders game on Monday Night Football

    4. Quite a bit happier than I was after the drubbing I witnessed in the 1998 Bills/Raiders game

    5. And since the 2003 opener happened before the humiliating loss at the hands of Capt Checkdown in the 2008 Bills/Raiders game – it probably wouldn’t be fair to compare those feelings

    Hope that helps

  14. Dude, Sanchez just wins. He literally won them the game because the QB is the most important position on the field and he wins. He is also a handsome man. Can you believe how handsome he is? And also, he wins.

Where is it written in stone that one man can't show affection for another man?

  15. Raiders dominated the AFc West last year going 6-0. The problem is they went 2-8 outside the division. Here is the reason why. Raiders played musical chairs last year at the most important position(QB( J campbell and garbagekowski) Tough for skill guys to get any chemistry with the Qb.(cable biggest blunder) Raiders didn't have a back to replace what D Mcfadden gave them when he missed a couple games due to injury.(they have thay guy now taiwan Jones) Here is another Key Raider tackles weren't that great in pass protection. When teams took away the run, Raiders had trouble moving the football through the air. Alot of key injuries at the Wr position didn't help either.

JMO I think Raiders passing offense will be alot more consistant and explosive than it was last year. Teams that load up to stop the run will be hurt by their passing game. Raiders have alot more depoth at Wr these days that they can afford to be missing a wr or two with injury. Also Raiders will start to incorporate their young talent slowly in WR Denarius moore (will get more and more playing time) RB Taiwan jones- he will play alot as his speed going to create serious mismatches. Te David Ausberry 6'4 245 4.47 (ex WR) probably won't be activated till Boss comes back as Raiders don't want to rely on two inexperience Tes ( R gordon and him)

I wouldn't read too much how raiders passing game looked against Broncos as raiders were holding alot of there weapons out as they didn't want anyone of them to get hurt with the bad weather. Also Raiders were playing it very safe as they wanted to win their first divisional game.

Could the reason be that the AFC west just wasn't very good last year?

  16. I think anyone would agree, Buddy and Chan have done a pretty good job shaoing this roster into the team they envisioned before they signed up for thier tour of duty at One Bills Drive, however, how long do you think it will take until they cry uncle on the CJ Spiller choice? I don't get where he even fit's their M.O. of what they want their team to look like...he is simply a poor man's Reggie Bush and will never be anything more than this... Sure' he has done infinitely more than the Aaron Mayhem pick, but considernig all of the needs we had/have and the clear vision for a team they have - we missed the mark greatly taking Spiller where we did. I would argue that Chief's second round pick McCluster is more electrifying and is doing what we had expected from Spiller-time....

He certainly has ability and potential. I think Gailey is a bright offensive mind and will eventually find a way to put him in a position to translate that ability and potential into on-field productivity. I also think Gailey is the kind of guy who will cut Spiller loose as soon as he reaches the conclusion that it just isn't going to work. But, for me, still way too early to tell and I am not ready to give up on the kid yet. Apparently, neither is Gailey, who has earned my respect in evaluating offensive talent and getting the most out of what he has to work with.
