  1. Some people like to look at Allen's play the first two years in a vacuum, cling to belief that Allen was simply a bad QB, and that the QB he is now came out of nowhere - completely unexpected by anyone. When they say, "nobody saw it coming," it makes it easier to rationalize their own awful, lazy takes.
  2. He was pressured on 33.3 % of attempts (15th most)
  3. I agree. I'm one that argued, back then, that Allen's play was not anywhere near the level of criticism he was taking. Allen certainly had his moments where he played like most rookie QBs. However, people forget just how bad that offense was around him. In 2018, he had virtually no run game with an offensive line ranked 32nd in run blocking and starting running backs who averaged 3.2 YPC; a passing game in which he faced the 2nd most blitzes and had the highest % of throws under pressure; while throwing to a receiving corps ranked 32nd overall and near the bottom of the league every meaningful category (dropped passes, separation, YAC, etc.). He certainly played like a rookie at times, but I'm not sure how many rookies would have played as well as he did - much less get better - with the s*** he had to work with...
  4. Decent pass rusher but a liability against the run
  5. LOL. I wasn't worried about the Bills getting past the Chiefs next year with Hill. You might very well be the least perceptive poster on this board...
  6. Absolutely. I think they move up in the 1st round and try to find his "replacement." We'll see. This definitely hurts them.
  7. Who TF is moping about it? I merely said they are still going to be a pretty damn good team. Of course, not as good as if they had picked up Matt Breida. He would have transformed that offense, amiright?
  8. Agree. But they are still damn good. I remember everyone writing them off early last season. How did that work out...
  9. Maybe not, but they sure as hell can pick up a pretty damn good receiver. With Mahomes at QB and Reid calling the offense, I'm sure the team isn't goint to fall off a cliff...
  10. I'm sure they will package the picks they received from the Dolphins, move up into the 1st round and get Hill's replacement on a rookie contract...
  11. If they select a Guard with the 25th pick, it will have nothing to do with whether or not Bates stays. Bates is a good backup. He is not the future at LG or RG.
  12. Yep. I would normally not even suggest an interor lineman in the 1st. The game has changed and having a franchise QB and protecting that franchise QB are the top priorities now. IMO, it means taking a Guard later in the 1st rd is absolutely fine. If we don't take him at 25, he won't get by Green Bay, Miami, KC, or Cincinnati behind us.
  13. I have been banging the drum for interior OL focus in the upcoming draft. They have the best damn QB in the NFL and drafting young linemen to put the very best line they can in front of him should be at the top of their list of priorities. I doubt Bates is coming back, but even if he did, he is not the caliber of starter they should be putting in front of Allen.
  14. @NewEra @Hapless Bills Fan From your question about how many snaps Bates has had in the NFL at RG: Bates snaps in the NFL: 454 total snaps LT LG C RG RT ITE (Inline TE) 95 214 33 33 29 50 20 of those 33 snaps at RG came in the 2nd NE game last year. He played 79 total snaps in that game, 59 at LG and 20 at RG. So, he has played at RG in only 4 games: 8 snaps vs Seattle in 2020, 1 snap at SF in 2020, 4 snaps at NO in 20021, and the 20 snaps against NE in 2021.
  15. All that guaranteed money will come in handy to settle these suits, starting with that $45M signing bonus...
  16. Right, which is why I can't imagine any team offering the Browns any premium picks in a trade.
  17. I already was aware of it from when it happened. There was a lot of discussion about it at that time (and after) and I was very critical of it. The fact that I didn't feel the need to make a point about it in a thread about Crowder doesn't make me blinded to Edmunds' faults...
  18. I saw it when it happened. It was a missed tackle. Doesn't change my point.
  19. Never underestimate the ability of some posters to turn any thread into an "Edmunds sucks" thread...
  20. As I have stated in other posts, my position on CB in the 1st rd rests entirely on whether or not (1) they feel White is on pace in his rehab to back on time and fully recovered, and (2) if they pick up a veteran CB in free agency 99% of the time I would be in full agreement with you and, to be perfectly clear, I wouldn't be upset at all if they go CB in the 1st. However, in this particular instance, my preference is the offensive side of the ball with interior OL first and a difference making skill player second. This is my reasoning: (1) As I stated above this would be under the premise that they are confident about White's return, they sign a vet free agent CB, and they actually do draft one or two CBs. (2) I believe they drastically improved their Dline, which, in turn, will improve the secondary (3) Offensive Line. The Oline, when completely healthy, played fairly well last year. However, when it came to the run game (outside of Allen), they were at best, inconsistent, and at worst, completely innefective. I think they feel good about Dawkins and Spencer at T, and Morse at C. I actually like the signing of Saffold, but he is a one or two year (maybe) temporay fix. They really need to draft and develop some Guards and an eventual replacement for Morse in a year or two. We have no idea if Bates comes back and Boettger returns from his injury, but even if they do, they are great depth guys, not the caliber of starters they should be putting in front of Allen. While I am one of those who generally believes you do not draft a Guard in the first round, I think this is the year they should invest in young talent on the Oline throughout the draft. I think Zion Johnson is a guy they should take. IMO, he is better than Green and clearly better than the next tier of Guards - and he won't last into the second round. I would also try to pick up another guard in the 3rd/4th rounds (maybe Cole Strange) and a center (maybe Donovan West in 3rd/4th, Cam Jurgens in 4th/5th, or Luke Wattenberg in 5th/6th). Overall, I would come away in this draft with 3 interior OL, all of which are athletic and aggressive. A better Oline means better protection and a better run game under Kromer - which would only enhance Allen's skill set. (4) Wide receiver. Again, I would generally agree that a top CB is more necessary than a top WR. But when you have a generational talent at QB, the more upper echelon skill players you put around him, the better the chances of winning that championship. The league is an offensive league and the AFC now has some damn good QBs. I don't care how good the defenses are, in 8 games out of 10, QBs like Allen, Mahomes, Burrow, Herbert, Watson, etc., are going to score points - that is what the NFL wants and the way they set up the rules. IMO, for a guy like Allen, another top offensive skill position is more valuable than a top CB, particularly in the defensive system the Bills run. In the end, I actually do trust Beane and I will be fine with whatever direction he decides to go in the 1st round. With his moves in free agency, he truly has set them up to go BPA available and to move up for specific players if necessary. I love what they have done so far, and cannot wait to see what they do in the draft
  21. I am a fan of always drafting a CB in the draft, as it is a passing league. I just don’t think it needs to be a 1st rd pick in this draft. IMO, the 1st pick and most picks this year should be on the offensive side. With a talent like Allen, they need to continually draft and develop talent around him.
  22. If you were a GM, I have no doubt you would single handedly destroy a franchise in one draft…
  23. Right, because Beane hasn’t shown he’s “all in” with this team. You have some truly awful takes…
