  1. heh. Ya know the last time we also were in the top 3 in defense. 2003-2004 when we played the oh yes 4-3 defense. My point being scheme is not indictive of being good. You can have good defenses in either scheme. The idea is to have good players and coaches. The Bills currently have neither. The little talent we did have was drafted because of their ability to translate into a 4-3 tampa 2. I get it the 3-4 is the in thing. The problem being more than half the league plays the defense, and it will become increasingly difficult to acquire talent in order to transition into and become a good overall unit. Just for the record if you wanna argue about what scheme is better. As of right now 4 of the top 5 defenses play the 4-3. Of the 4 teams that made the conference championships last year only 1 played the 3-4. 3 of the last 4 superbowl champions yup you guessed it 4-3 defense. Its going to be easier to get players for the 4-3 just based on the amount of teams that play the 3-4.
  2. Im guessing Kelsay had some sort of voodoo doll, and didn't want anyone possibly cutting into his playing time
  3. I'll never forget a game against the Ravens that we were getting blown out in I think in 2004, where Moulds chased down the db after an interception and made the tackle, and had a quote post game where he gave credit to Bills of the past who taught him to never give up no matter the odds, and never quit on a play. I also hold Gregg Williams sort of responsibe for Moulds statistical nosedive. For going for a td drive in a meaningless ot game against The Bengals when we could've just kicked a fg. Moulds ended up tearing a groin muscle during the drive, and never could quite regain his speed. Had that never happened, he would've had a few years of high productivity left in him. Up until that injury in 03 he was on his way to another monster year. After that injury from week 8 2003-2007 he only had 3 100 yard games
  4. Philly has that good of an offensive system and Vick gives them something they haven't had in years a quarterback who is a serious threat to run the ball. Nothing against Mcnabb, but he's not nearly as mobile as he used to be. It's one thing when teams can't blitz you cause they don't wanna get burned by the likes of desean jackson or maclin. Throw in Lesean McCoy who seems to be a seemless fit in the mold of Brian Westbrook into that offense, Brent Celek, and even Jason Avant and Owen Schmidt have been reliable options. Add all that up with Vicks running ability and it's sure to give opposing offenses nightmares. He may not have put in film work while in Atlanta, but he also didn't have anything approaching this level of offensive talent. The real test for Philly will come in 2 weeks vs the Giants. One thing to take into consideration though is that Vick has been sacked 14 times in 125 pass attempts once every 9 pass attempts. A team like the Giants will expose that. So far though there's little fault in Vick's game, and he's been a godsend for the Eagles.
  5. It's coaches putting players in position for playmakers 2 make plays. Last year Perry Fewell maximized the play making potential of the Bills secondary, by playing the cover 2 that allowed everything to stay in front of them. They played the same defense for several years, and had some nice secondary players and we had a pass rush with Aaron Schobel and Williams/Stroud/Kelsay in their more natural positions. Moving over to the Giants who struggled on defense last year, as their dc didn't do them any favors, the giants last year also lacked playmakers in the secondary. Fast Forward to this year, the Giants added Antrelle Rolle and Deon Grant, and got back Kenny Philips, and added the veteran experience of Keith Bullock at lb. Mix in Perry Fewell who can undoubtedly take advantage of the talent of the front 7 players the Giants have, and with a basic defense like the cover 2 allows the giants secondary to make plays. It's a coaching/talent mix. If you have the players odds are you are gonna succeed. Good coaches make good players better, and vice versa. When you don't have the players though in the front 7 of your defense regardless of coaching you're not gonna make plays, which is the problem the Bills face. Until we can find a pass rush, we're going to be a defense that gives up a lot of plays in the back end. Until we find Lb's we're also going to give up a lot of rushing yards. No amount of coaching is going to fix that.
  6. How many Sacks will Peppers get lined up over Cordero Howard this week Im guessing between 3-5
  7. If Merriman regains his previous "Lights Out" form, than yes you franchise him and work out a long term deal. Elite pass rushers are the single most important position outside of quarterbacks, and do not grow on trees.
  8. Wait so Chris Ellis is good enough for the Steelers Practice squad, but not for the Bills..... The Steelers know lb's obviously they see something in Ellis that the Bills should've seen
  9. QFT. Seriously there's no sense in arguing in favor of either one of these scrubs. There wasn't when they were on the team, and it makes even less sense now. They both were terrible on their own merits. People just need to let it go. http://bighugelabs.com/output/motivatorba5e1af592d2b44b805e0b9987f4f29e46f3d7f7.jpg
  10. Byrd was good last year cause he was allowed to make plays cause we got a pass rush from this guy named Schobel. Also Kyle Williams being a above average 4-3 dt supplied a pass rush from the middle that hurried throws. We don't have Schobel and Williams was playing 3-4 nt, which means the secondary has no chances to make any kind of play unless you expected more out of him in run support? Improve the front 7 improve the pass rush and the secondary will go back to making plays. Don't improve the pass rush and well what you see is what you get.
  11. Having said that, Gailey made a start (at least in fantasy) out of Tyler Thigpen. Seems his system on offense is conducive to big QB numbers. Fitz is so far beyond Tyler Thigpen it's ridiculous, and if you look at Thigpens #'s they're actually really lousy. Acceptable td #'s but his completion pct, ypa are downright bad. Not to mention that they played the pistol offense. It's a slap in the face to compare Thigpen to Fitzpatrick. 2008-09 Kansas City 14 76.0 230 420 54.8 2608 186.3 6.2 18 12 2010-11 Buffalo 4 102.0 81 128 63.3 969 242.3 7.6 11 4 Fitz should undoubtedly smash Thigpens #'s even if his td's level out
  12. Troup is playing dt with Kyle Williams Stroud and Dwan Edwards are the ends Moats was seeing some time at defensive end as well as Kelsay on some plays. Kelsay/Davis/Poz are the base set lbs but there was substitutions.
  13. You seriously underestimate the ability of forward thinking for playoff positioning by the Ravens, coaching staff.
  14. Did Ryan Fitzpatrick not approve of the Chris Kelsay extension is that why you hate him so much?. Fitzpatrick is what he is. Obviously over the long term you take Bradford. However we never had a shot at Bradford, so other than semantics for the sake of,drop the crusade. Fitzpatrick is playing well on a bad team. He's not a bad qb to keep around to groom a new qb under, as the rest of the team is improved in other areas. Hypothetical trades, for the sake of crusading is a waste of posting.
  15. How's chris kelsay doing? Did he pick himself up off the ground yet after whiffing at Mcgahee?
  16. The games against the Jets/Packers showed how bad this team is. Baltimore isn't gonna tell us anything that we don't already know. Can't stop the run, can't cover a tight end, can't sustain drives/running game. Our offense is bad, our defense is attrocious. We have decent special teams. What more do you really need to know?
  17. Their st's has directly cost them 3 of the 4 games they lost Against Kc/Seattle and Oakland
  18. The giants d has been consistently good the past few years, however the achillies heel of their defense has been their secondary which has been better. The only place they had to go was up. Their pass rush has improved to the level it should be at. Kenny Phillips is healthy, Antrel Rolle was a solid addition. It's not just Perry Fewell, but let's not kid ourselves, Fewell is a hell of a lot better defensive coordinator than George Edwards. We lost out on this one.
  19. This week everyone can get a much clearer look at the true Chris Kelsay (yet again) and why he shouldn't be a starter. He's terrible, and hasn't had a good game against any offense, and being a good locker room guy in the league doesn't prove much of anything. A Solid Baltimore offense is going to put him on notice, and his contract extension will look even worse.
  20. Simple and to the point. Anyone who's ever played a down of organized football at any level, one of the first things you learn is never to hold up on a hit, and to drive and always follow through. When you hold up on hits, out of fear you might injure the other person or yourself odds are you are going to get injured. No one intentionally goes out there to try to cripple an opposing player, but make no mistake about it, the very idea is to hit the other team as hard as you can, whether on offense/defense/or special teams. Anyone who says otherwise has obviously never played football. If people didn't want to see people get hit, Baseball would still be America's #1 sport. You can't take the physicality out of a collision sport, when the majority of people who play are taught to hit this way from the time they're 7-8 years old. Accidents happen, but it's so few and far between it's almost negligible. Go Hard or Go Home. The Hit on Josh Cribbs, was not inflicted with malace it was in the action of a tackle. That kind of play happens just about every down. If that's the type of hit that's gonna cause suspensions you'll start seeing key players suspended weekly, and ratings quickly drop. The hit on Massoquoi well that was a bit over the top, as there was simply no reason to launch himself. The problem for the NFL becomes where do you draw the line now at "devestating hits". It's a slippery slope, one that take the sole purpose of football out of the game. It's another horrible rule to pussify the game yet again. One step away from putting red jerseys on qb's and flags in the back pockets of skill players.
  21. a week before my bday might have to start the heavy drinking a week early P.S- Anyone know the record for most rushing yards given up by a team in the course of a season? I think there's a good chance we could break that record this year.
