Troy Franklin was a top 3 wr recruit coming out of high school, rated higher than every single wr in this draft. Joe Brady was a big fan and tried hard to get him to LSU.

Franklin's college career reaffirmed that he was one of the very best. If he had been healthy at the combine he would be off the board already imo. I consider him a top 4 wr in this draft and would rather have him than Thomas, Worthy, Mitchell, Legette, etc.

     I hope he's the target

Justin Shorter was a top WR recruit coming from H.S. and he was picked late in the 5th round.  I don’t like Franklin’s route running, contested catches ability or ability to play strong on the boundary.  FWIW, Greg Cosell didn’t exactly articulate a ringing endorsement today on Buffalobills.com

I would love Polk, but honestly I don't think we love him. Buffalo has very minimal if any contact with him so far. I think it's Coleman at 33🤮 or Dejean which I'd be okay with...same with Kool-Aid and take best WR at 60

In my opinion, Coleman would be a pretty bad pick.  What would he help besides maybe a jump ball or 2?  Definitely not explosive (at least speed and quickness).  Not a deep threat nor a good technical route runner.

What do you see in Polk that you like?  I get that he is the try-hard guy and is good at contested catches, but I don’t see speed or quickness evident in his play.  He can make a team and maybe be a starting receiver, but I don’t see more than an average NFL player.

Bills seem to love him. What receiver do you like best?

I agree that they seem to really like him.  I would avoid AD Mitchell - too many reports of character/effort issues for my taste.  I don’t like Keon Coleman at any spot in round 2.  I do like Ladd McConkey, but I acknowledge that he has some size/durability risk and probably isn’t a deep threat in spite of his 4.39 40.  Polk and Baker are interesting, but not until late round 2 or later.

Of course, these are just my fan opinions.

There's plenty of chances for movement on day two for the Bills. Washington is one team where there's potential. Philadelphia is another. Could possibly move up in the 3rd round with TB. Beane has the Queen to move around the chess board

What queen are you referring to?

Analytics AND eye test says otherwise

Where do the reputable analysts rate Franklin?  Not very high.  What eye test did he pass.  I’ve watched multiple games of his and all of his combine on field work.  I see a very thin guy who is fast, but not ultra fast and doesn’t have instant acceleration as evidenced by his poor 10yd split in the 40.  His hands are pretty small and he is not strong enough tobexcel at contested catches.  The combine was poor with his inability to run anything close to a straight line in the gauntlet drill and him falling running routes against air.

Now, clearly he produced big plays in college, but the PAC 12 isn’t exactly known for their defense.  I think he can be a complementary receiver in the NFL, but I am not expecting a star and in spite of his good speed I think he will struggle as a deep threat due to his lack of strength preventing fighting for contested catches.

If the Bills pick him, I will hope that I am wrong about him, but he would not be my pick.

I agree, but the draft isn’t over after pick 33.

If we take Dejean here and still get someone like Franklin later in the second, thats the better combination of value based on what’s left, you have to agree with that. If we’ve waited until now, we can still add a player soon-ish.

We already missed out on the top end prospects. No undoing that. Now we make the best of what’s left.

I think they like Franklin, but I have a bad feeling that he isn’t as good as the Bills apparently think he is.

As I’ve often said, people get WAY too hung up on which Round a player is taken in.

That’s not my point.  I am arguing that if they really liked any the WR they would have taken one at 28 or 32.  The flip side would be that they liked so many equally that they felt they could trade down.

Im just guessing, but based on Beane’s comment that they will get call for pick 33, I think he is looking to trade down again- likely because they aren’t crazy about any of the remaining receivers.

Why would they have done so already? He’s still there now. The goal of the draft isn’t to take your guy as early as possible. The goal is to take him as LATE as possible.

I just think that his talent would have dictated he go round 1 if he didn’t have rumored concerns about effort/taking coaching.

Wouldn't be my choice. I'd prefer it to Keon Coleman but it would not be my ideal. It is just where I think they will go.

I’m afraid you’re right.  Agree, better than Coleman, but I don’t like Franklin until late 2nd or later.  I just don’t see it with him.  I don’t think he is physical enough to be a strong deep threat.

I actually feel less like it is DeJean here after the trade backs. If they loved DeJean they'd have taken him I reckon. I think it is more likely they take a guy who was not considered a pretty likely first rounder.

Troy Franklin is my bet honestly if they pick here.

    That would be very disappointing.

How hard will it be for Worthy to put on 15lbs in a NFL weigh room. Worthy doesn’t have to be Hill, he just needs to make the secondary play back to open up Kelce underneath.

I think that will be difficult given his frame.

The second round is where all the value lies in the receiving depth of this draft. History shows REPEATEDLY that you can find studs, WR1’s, and WR2’s here.

    Available
    Adonai Mitchell
    Troy Franklin

    Ladd McConkey

    Keon Coleman

    Javon Baker

    Jalynn Polk

    AJ Brown

    Dk Metcalf

    Deebo Samuel

    Davante Adams

    Tee Higgins

Rookie WR success is about situation, and I can’t think of a better one than a hungry 17 ready to put up big numbers without the drama. Take your pick(s) it doesn’t matter we are all going to be smiling tomorrow.

If they wanted Mitchell, they would have taken him at 32 - the extra 5th would not have swayed him.

Franklin and Coleman - no thanks

Baker and Polk would be huge reaches before back end of round 2.

    Anyone but Ladd please.

McConkey is the best receiver left, in my opinion.  I think if they were going to take Mitchell, they would have done so already.

I understand that McConkey isn’t an X, but if it isn’t him it’s another position in my opinion.

About Franklin or Aiyuk, or both?

Franklin doesn’t interest me early in round 2.  I’m not super keen on trading for an expensive vet like Aiyuk, but at least he isn’t super old - don’t know how they fit him under the cap this year though.

  15. 8 minutes ago, mannc said:

I think it’s Franklin…no idea after that.  With the Niners drafting a WR at 31, does that put Aiyuk in play now, probably in exchange for 33?

I think you’re right and I will be very disappointed if that’s where they go.

  16. I don’t really have a guess other than that they didn’t really like the WRs as much as the general consensus does.  I think if they liked Mitchell they would have picked him already.

I would take McConkey here, but I have a sinking feeling that they are going to take Franklin.
