  1. Most people have little knowledge of all of the items their taxes help pay for nor the exact figures from their taxes that are funneled to any specific item in a state/federal budget.  Taxes are paid by all of us for things we might never use.

I get the principal of not using public money to fund billionaires.  But in the specific case of this Bills Stadium how much of ones taxes do they think is going toward its construction over the next 4 years?   Probably not that much if it’s broken down.

This can be merged to another thread if a mod wants, but with his overall expertise I thought his insights were interesting, especially since I don't watch ANY college football.

    My biggest takeaways:

Really high on George Pickens (like REALLY high) and Skyy Moore

Not really high on Drake London... compared him to Marcus Colston and said all the Wide Receivers he's being compared with (Mike Evans, Mike Williams, Michael Pittman) were better prospects.

Deep WR class. Can find a "starter" (in today's NFL... meaning top 3 guy for your roster) in round 4.

As far as scheme fit for Buffalo he named Jameson Williams and Jahon Dotson as 2 players he'd like in Buffalo’s offense assuming it doesn't change much.

CB in the 1st and Dotson in the 2nd? I don't know if he'll be available there because I've seen reports of him as a 1st round prospect, but he seems more likely to fall there than Williams.

Dotson's pro day was yesterday but I don't think Beane was in attendance... though that doesn't mean much. Apparently it went well and he's excellent tracking the deep ball.

Maybe Dotson could fall into the top few picks of round 2, but he wouldn’t last anywhere near will the Bills pick in round 2.  That said he’s going in the first.

Love it.  This is where I'm at... McDermott isn't perfect, but he's very good, and clearly has an eye for CB play and development.

If I'm the Bills, I'm using my RD1 & RD2 picks on OL/WR/DL moving forward.  Then drafting two secondary players every year in Rounds 3-7.  Specifically targeting players like this that McDermott can work with and develop.  Keep the CB/S room stocked with constant draft picks, even if we're not spending high picks on the positions.

Good find, and clearly we need speed in the secondary.  You can scheme ways to keep teams from throwing over the top.  Can't really scheme open field scenarios where Tyreek Hill just runs away from all your corners and safeties.

In fairness Hill does that to a lot of safeties and CB’s throughout the league.  The Bills aren’t special in that regard.

  4. So many GMs on this board.   If only Beane was smart enough to listen to your misanthropic takes.

Jones is good at what he does.  It’s a one year deal.  He could always get beat out.  Nothing about his deal prevents Beane from making another move if that’s what he wants to do.
Complaining just to complain is tiresome.

i keep going back and forth on this. I see absolutely nothing wrong with CB in RD1. If Dane gets injured before Tre bets back our CBs will be a disaster.

If we draft a CB at 25 hes an instant day 1 starter on this roster.

Id we draft a WR at 25, with Diggs, Davis and Crowder/McKenzie all ahead of him, how much are we going to actually use this guy this season? Maybe 300 receiving? MAYBE

Thats a lot to invest in a player who could very well contribute little to a season where the Bills are going all-in to win.

But if Diggs goes down…or Davis..yeh it would be nice to have another weapon to plug in. I dont think there is a wrong answer per se.

I lean towards the everyday starter at CB being picked Rd 1. And drafting a WR in the 2nd round who can be integrated into the offensive juggernaut as the season progresses.

Beane thinks long term not just this season.  If a WR is the best player on the board he will take him.  Crowder and McKenzie are both on what amounts to 1 year deals.   As we see a team doesn’t necessarily want to be in the high end FA WR market these days.  Beane would be smart to grab a WR in rd. 1 or 2.

I like the idea of drafting Olave at 25, more for the reason of blocking the Chiefs from getting one of the top WRs at 29/30.

I think Olave will be gone by 25.  His skills, tape and timed speed line up way too well.

Now just keep team doctors away from him.

And that wasn't even a good game for Josh. This trade will be terrible for both teams.  KC will no longer have a speed deep threat. And Tua doesn't have the arm to get it to Hill. Plus Miami will now be cap strapped. Love this offseason.

Chiefs will be fine.   I’m sure they will draft some WR speed.  Will they be as good as Hill?  Don’t need to be for them to be effective.

Just curious - what kind of return would we get for trading Stefon Diggs?  Not that I'm a proponent of that, but given the Hill news today it got me thinking about it.  Trade Diggs and, assuming a 1st round pick is part of the deal, draft his replacement, use the other 1st round pick on a CB, another receiver or Breece Hall.  Would set the Bills up for a good 4-5 year run with young cheap playmakers for Allen.  And frees up money to refresh other areas of the team.

I’m seeing a lot of this though process.    The Bills better pay Diggs.

    1.  He’s earned it on the field.

    2.  He’s been a good soldier and very unselfish.  One of the team leaders.

    3. If Beane tries to cut corners with that guy the culture talk takes a hit in that locker room because of Diggs has meant to the organization and Allen’s progression.  Some players have to get paid.  Just like Allen, Hyde and Poyer, Diggs is one of those dudes.  It’s definitely for production reasons, but other factors also come into play that impact team culture.

    4.  Beane knows this.

Watson still has civil cases pending. It is not true that he has been exonerated. My guess is he will ultimately settle with all of his accusers, but does that change your thinking at all? Being civilly liable for sexual assault is arguably still a good enough reason for the NFL to shun him. That standard of proof is usually what is used in employment cases.

The NFL/Roger Goodell can do pretty much whatever they want. That was upheld by courts in the Tom Brady suspension case. If Goodell wants to indefinitely suspend Watson he has the ability to do that.

If Watson is not criminally convicted the NFL is not going to shun him.  That’s what the league was waiting for. Is there a chance he might go to jail?  As soon as teams knew his availability wasn’t at stake, the deal happened.

I’m always amazed that people are surprised in these instances.  Watson holds unique skills in an exclusive profession.   In that profession, only winning/money are paramount.   Multiple teams bid, the team that guaranteed the most money won out.  That’s the capitalism people love so much.  It only cares about making more money.  Does Watson hurt the Browns’ bottom line?   I doubt it.

Ben Roethlisberger had 2 rape allegations against him and only got suspended 6 games.  The number of allegations against Watson are stunning, but none of those allegations, from my understanding, accuse him of an actual rape. (Not to say the things he’s accused of aren’t serious. They are very serious).  That’s why I don’t think Goodell is going to suspend him for a year.  I’d guess 10 games or so.

This will be an issue where people will have to decide how much they can roll with or not.  The NFL most likely won’t give people the satisfaction they want.   Watson will play eventually.  The stadium will be full and the Browns might have some success.  Easy for people to walk away now.  Harder to stay away come September.

I'm pretty certain none of us know the details/nitty gritty of exactly who was making any particular decision back then.  But your take is pretty much mine, as well. I don't believe he ever wielded full GM power, or anything close.

It seems as though he was pretty passive in accepting that role. If all that is true (who knows?) does that seem like one of the qualities you want in a GM?

I suspect some organizations are looking for a malleable candidate.

That was the chance he had to be a GM.  He tried to make it work with the constraints involved.   The organization was dysfunctional in those years, in general.   I don’t think Whaley ever had full autonomy.

He has ability to identify talent.  The media part he did not excel in.  Speaking in front of cameras and microphones is not natural.   It’s a skill.  He works on radio these days so maybe he’d be better at that the next go around.

Like that less, I can see Barkley as a cheap back up but I'd rather have someone developmental that we might be able to trade later at 3.

I like the thought but the reality is that developmental guy is not playing in practice much let alone games.  Allen is comfortable with Barkley and the Bills are all in on making Allen comfortable.  QB 3 for the Bills is a Teacher’s Assistant for the Bills OC.

  11. The trade just happened and we’re only in March.  I understand why people are upset and want to express their anger.   That’s human nature.

Come September,  many of those same people supposedly jumping ship now will be right back rooting for the Browns.  Decades of connection to their team won’t be so easy to forget when there are actual games being played.  We’ll see all the “deal making” people do with themselves to continue forward.  That’s human nature too.

Some of those fans will stay away, but not as many as it appears to be now.

I disagree.  Yes he can play but there has to be a drop off in his abilities after this.  A year of no hits, a full year of being called a creep (rightfully so in my book) a full year of watching his fortune dwindle to lawyers and settlement options.  He’s not that bright to begin with and doubt he has the mental fortitude to get past all of it.

I would bet he’s 75% of his former self at best.

and there is a high probability he does something equally creepy within a fairly short period of time.

    👀 That’s a lot.

I’ll just say,  he might be rusty for a short time, but it won’t last.  He’s too young and too skilled.

Not  bright to begin with?  Based on what?   Not academics, not professional accomplishment, not philanthropic impact. What he’s accused of?  Otherwise Intelligent people do bad things everyday.  Nobody is immune from that in varying degrees.

Mental fortitude.  Most don’t play pro ball without it.  A great player definitely has it.  What he’s accused of is no good.  It is creepy.  Doesn’t mean he won’t continue to be successful.   It is what is.

Normally, that would be interesting points to add into decision...but in this case...None of that matters.  All that matters is where Watson wants to go, he has 100% absolute power in where he goes because of his no trade clause.  So these details like Hurts being from Houston are irrelevant in the final decision.  Only way Watson goes to Philly is if he wants to go to Philly.

I didn’t mention it in relation to it impacting Watson’s decision.  Moreso as a point of interest for the Texans if Watson chose Philly.

Interesting. I know nothing about him but stats are hardly inspiring.

And any signing like this makes signing of impactful DE less likely.

I'll tell you what I think when FA ends :)

We shall see.  Although it stands to reason if Beane doesn’t sign a DE he might not view what was available as impactful as some fans do.

Not gonna lie.... If we sign Hicks, D. Jones for $7M, and Settle for $5M, and DON'T sign Chandler Jones... I'll be sick

Don’t be.  They drafted 3 DE’s the past 2 years.  The odds are they will keep trying to develop them.   Don’t let the rumor mill gas you up to get disappointed.   I wouldn’t mind Jones either, but I’m not counting on it.
