    I think it's more the other way around - People think the team should pay whatever it takes to retain or sign a player and when outbid they complain that they didn't "get it done" as though cap concerns are imaginary and as though this year's cap hit is the only one of any importance.

    You made a decent argument but one that I believe is wrong based on the things Jerry said and the situation overall. Jerry's not hurting for cash, he likes his toys, and Ware was still one of his best players. Plus, they were in cap hell and all the talk was about how could they possibly fit him under the cap. He was a cap casualty if there ever was one.

    Analytics has a tough time quantifying factors like leadership. I often think those things are overrated, but on an offense filled with young guys it's hard to argue that a guy like FJ isn't worth a roster spot and < $2m in cap space (his replacement won't be free).

    You've been around here long enough to know there's a salary cap that makes this relevant even if the guy writing the checks has the deepest pockets imaginable.

    That's an interesting point. Personally, I think Titties Dixon's role is a bit overvalued by the fan base. He wasn't highly valued by the 9ers and now their OC is in Buffalo. He could be the odd man out.

    A disproportionate number of stories about people doing crazy **** tends to come from FL. Adam Carolla even has a bit he does called Germany or Florida where someone reads a bizarre news story and he has to guess which one it occurred in. I've also heard the panhandle referred to as the armpit of America.
