  1. Ultimately trading back is fine it’s just

    1) what do we do now drastically impacts the evaluation of whether the strategy was smart

    2) like it or not, if worthy blossoms it could really tattoo this regime/era in a different way than the Carolina trade which was also for a wr. The risk/reward equation is wildly different on a human psych level based on it being the chiefs taking a guy at a position of need for us to use against us in the biggest moments

But that's exactly what they did?

Are you saying the bills don't love anyone at pick 2.01?

he’s saying they likely have 2-3 similar ranked guys and not someone head and shoulders above that they wouldn’t want to risk losing

Well, i don't know about that, man.

If they wanted him, they could have made a play for him or did they really expect he would drop to 28?

some of you act like a trade up is just a button you push and not a human negotiation though

Why are we assuming Worthy is the new Tyreek Hill? Because he’s fast? Tyreek Hill is a generational talent. Most undersized fast WRs don’t end up having careers anything like Hill’s.

Worthy hasn’t played a game yet but he’s already a hall of famer and breaking your hearts in the playoffs. This is the definition of anxiety and y’all need some meds.

no I’m not assuming he is but if he does become an impact player there’s a pretty hefty weight added now

The second round is where all the value lies in the receiving depth of this draft. History shows REPEATEDLY that you can find studs, WR1’s, and WR2’s here.

    Available
    Adonai Mitchell
    Troy Franklin

    Ladd McConkey

    Keon Coleman

    Javon Baker

    Jalynn Polk

    Recent Hits

    AJ Brown

    Dk Metcalf

    Deebo Samuel

    Davante Adams

    Tee Higgins

Rookie WR success is about situation, and I can’t think of a better one than a hungry 17 ready to put up big numbers without the drama. Take your pick(s) it doesn’t matter we are all going to be smiling tomorrow.

history shows the misses become far more frequent the deeper you go

and you are certainly overstating situation

if we get our guy at 33 I’m decent. If we go defense then wait til 60 for WR I’m not in on that plan

They won the last two Super Bowls.  LOL.  I'm also a little dubious of their ability to scout WR's with spending premium draft picks on Hardman, Moore, and Rice.

someone more jaded might point out those were late second rounders in the mid 50s and we are edging towards jumping in that very challenging pool

Here’s where I’m at right now.

I would have been happy with Mitchell or McConkey at 28 without any trades. And we traded back and got, not extra picks, but made our later picks better in the process.

Now, if they go with that DB/S tomorrow at 33 I’m gonna be livid.

If they take Mitchell, McConkey, Franklin, I’ll be perfectly happy with it. As I would have been at 28.

Now; with that all said, you picked up the extra 3rd rounder, and now have some better ammo with the four 5th rounders. So i really really hope they are active tomorrow. Getting either an extra 2nd by moving back into the 2nd rd. Or moving up from 60 to the 40s or something. And then hopefully moving up in the 3rd again too.

I will wait and see what he does.

    BUT……
I am absolutely with most agreeing that you shouldn’t give KC the chance to take a guy that can smoke you for years to come. If worthy or Legette are the real deal in this league we look like fools again. No matter who we take.

i think loosely my stance. My posts this morning are skewing towards certain topics but globally this is about where I sit.

This. Having a history of “giving” Mahomes to KC, unable to beat them in the playoffs, makes KC a team you just don’t do business with. Doesn’t matter what draft grades you have, who you think they’ll take, whatever. You just don’t do it. Reid will scheme a Worthy special in the playoffs and we’ll hear it over and over.

it would be catastrophic for the teams psyche if it happens

imagine if we get dejean and he dials it up on him!

There’s almost no way that this works out positively. Every TD pass thrown from the NFL’s best QB (who the Bills handed to KC) to the WR that holds the combine 40 record (who the Bills handed to KC) will be an emotional trauma. It will repeatedly churn up that Mahomes trade.

After a big trade up for one of the top 3 WRs I honestly thought that our next best option was a trade back to acquire another meaningful pick in this year’s draft. But that couldn’t be with KC. This is devastating.

can you imagine if reporters start asking Josh if he had worthy down the line if the dudes playing well

he could tank and beane could get a better player tonight but it’s a HELL of a risk compared to almost any other trade partner

Definitely not, the trade with KC alone makes him a moron. They’re trying to do to Josh what they did to Cam, be Superman and get it done all by himself. This guy prefers to stack 5th rounders over picking 1st rounders.

While I don’t agree with the last sentence… it’s an all time risky trade.

if worthy pans out that we gave them mahomes and worthy is a blistering narrative - the type of which will be repeated a million times and define this era

if Josh gets hurt playing hero ball it really becomes something. Hopefully we land a couple pieces and feel better fast.

I have to assume they have like 3 guys graded similarly and are all good sliding til 1-2 get picked and I like that philosophy but if we are tied to kc getting a star it becomes not a little flub but something that changes this groups identity and that won’t be worth the picks to try to overcome

  10. 4 minutes ago, Fan in Chicago said:

My only counter is that the way to prevent Chiefs from getting Worthy was to pick him ourselves. How else would we have prevented Chiefs getting him anyway? I am guessing that Beane knew that the 3 teams in the middle did not want him

I absolutely do not want to help our arch(est) rival but this sounds like a situation where the Bills got some assets while not changing any of the selections between the two teams

you say this but apparently the chiefs thought there was risk

Cousins has been QB purgatory death camp for years. I respect his grind and how he got people excited last year. Saw the tik tok vids, tee hee. But he will always be the middling QB that never gets you over the hump. He’s well behaved Jay Cutler at best. Ryan Tannehill+. Frankly the worst QB1 possible because it can stifle all growth.

But he could potentially be the best QB2 in the league for years, if he accepts it, immediately. Highly doubtful considering his known ego.

If he accepts it immediately? If not for his ego? He’s on a 45m a year paycheck with huge guarantees. It’s not ego to say he’s not waking up as Ryan Fitzpatrick today.

he will play this out and retire with a quarter billion dollars

What are you willing to pay for Sutton? 5th?

It’s not that they fooled everyone. He was a 1st round wr, that ran the fastest 40 ever. People took that as “he must play like John Ross.” Worthy was an elite WR, for multiple years, at one of the biggest programs in the country. I think that you could have let a lot of guys go to KC and been okay. This wasn’t one of them.

also I think a flyer on toney is a completely different conversation

Well that was an interesting end to the night to say the least. Traded twice to teams that took WRs......

We now have 20 hours to discuss our first pick.

If the Bills simply like someone like Mitchell more, and take him at 33, I am fine with the trades, actually they would be nice moves.

If they traded picks that ended up being Worthy and Leggette and then take a freaking safety from Iowa, it's time to take the pitchforks out.

Who are your best remaining and who do you want them to pick?

would you rather Mitchell on a 5 year deal plus a 6th or Mitchell on a 4 year deal plus a 5?

id probably stay out and knock it out tonight

Of course I’d be upset, but not at Beane trading back.  I’d be pissed if we drafted worthy to only have him get injured right away, or turns out he can’t catch the ball

if the chiefs maximize the ability of him, so be it.  This isn’t us trading the first overall pick.

you can’t be “scared” as an NFL gm.  Beane has someone in mind for our pick, and he obviously knows he will get him

so let kc squirm and find another partner, or make them overpay

So would you prefer the Bills take worthy to spite the chiefs, but can’t use him effectively and he busts, or take someone at 28 that would have been available at 32 anyway and not move up 30 spots into the 3rd round?

honest answer, I don’t trade with kc there without a premium

are you ok if mahomes throws to worthy to beat us in the playoffs next year?
