I think Hardy has a real shot to make this team. First off as depth at CB. I can see them wanting someone young back there to keep the pipeline full. Second, he was one of the top rated returners in the nation last year in college. Chances are good he gets a shot and that's what may earn him not only a roster spot...but a jersey bon Sundays.

Have to remember as well, we lost some core ST guys this year such as Matakevich and Neal. They may or may not be replaced by guys with the same core position so it may play into carrying less at some spots and more at others than we have in years past. The new kickoff/coverage rules may also alter the numbers a tad as well

Yea the competition for the 53rd could be him and hamler for instance

Not the same group but I wouldn’t be shocked

Bad hamstrings and a heart condition.

I think it’s still a long shot for him to have any kind of meaningful role, but he’s talented. Like an above poster mentioned, if he can gun or return kicks he could make it. Otherwise he’s a safe bet for the practice squad.

Teams also stopped playing single high against us.

Cook should help that return, but taking away Josh’s deep game has been defensive’s priority.

he’s the definition of not even buying a lotto ticket but finding one… not great odds but you never know what could’ve fallen out of someone’s pocket. You aren’t making financial decisions or quitting your job based on simply possessing it though

They definitely were both on here posting for a bit at separate times until I would imagine Jerry Sullivan's seven burner accounts called them out for not sharing details that would have burned their sources or something.

I can't remember all the specifics, felt silly, especially as they seemed pretty engaged.

the skin was sometimes single ply thin and that’s not going to work in this setting

Comp picks are fake. Don't count on them. They reviewed this year's again & still kept us & SF at 4th round but gave Cincy a 3rd round. Totally not worth it. No one seems to really understand the supposed "formula", Beane & the experts said it would be a 3rd & planned accordingly. We'll give up talent & end up with a 7th next year. Until they fix it so the process is transparent & everyone can understand it & know what they'll actually get, it's about as real as the Easter bunny and as reliable as Nathan Peterman in the 1st half of a Bills game.

it’s one of the first times in years there’s been a discrepancy in predicting them and it was 2 guys by 1 round.

while imperfect it’s still about 98% forecastable

  5. Current stance:

none of them excite me or materially move the needle.

I would wait til camp and see about cuts, late trades and if we have any injuries.

someone will roll an ankle but whether that is cook or Samuel changes need quite drastically and around cut day I think the available talent will also be better.

once upon a time I thought we would consider a guy like Simmons June 1 but now? Probably wait til august before considering anything noteworthy.

I think Beane is not getting enough props for adding a piece to every single group on both sides of the ball. This is an infusion of youth everywhere on the roster.

We are now a younger team that has good depth pretty much everywhere.

We may need a gamechanger or two, but now at least you reloaded the roster with promising young players, and next season we will have cap space and even better draft capital to make a power move or two should we have a glaring need.

I like the approach, and we'll see how good McDermott and his staff really are given the makeup of the roster

to be fair, most posters could pick a promising player at each area of need

    that’s not the hard part

If we stayed at #32 and drafted Legette, he's a one-year wonder. If we drafted Mitchell, he's got diabetes and is an attitude problem. If we drafted McConkey, he's a "gritty slot" and not an X. There will always be detractors. Some of it is because Beane explicitly said he was looking for explosive receivers who would separate, and Coleman doesn't fit that profile.

I think we just have to hope there’s a bit of “he’s a guard” at play and then watch cordy actually play LT.

while I’ve been challenging people on this pick, as it doesn’t fit the mold, my fingers are still crossed. It’s not purely hope and prayer either but its a challenging one on paper.

If this was meant to make me feel better um it didn't. Watching college level DBs turn and run with him with ease is frightening. He looks so slow on go routes.

I don't think that is where he will excel in the NFL.

Hopefully his go to route will be the 15-20 yard cross and out. That was a Davis staple and one of his drops last season that ended up as an Allen INT.

You can scheme it up and maybe improve deep but if they don’t fear you getting over them, the underneath has a knack for getting tight.

  9. 17 minutes ago, BuffaloBillyG said:

Yeah, he's got some YAC ability. And he looks to be tough to bring down in the open field. Pretty intense guy that stays on his feet for extra yards...doesn't slide down in front of tacklers.

He and Allen are going to feed off each others energy on the field. Looking forward to see what he does

but that said, after breaking the tackle he may be asked to run numerous yards in a straight line-

or a horizontal play could have him running many yards across the field. My point was it’s not just go routes where you see that speed

breaking a tackle can make up for it though, as you note

  10. 3 minutes ago, BuffaloBillyG said:

Yeah, that's my thing. I don't believe he's going to be asked to run straight line deep routes very much. So how does Brady use him and what can they do to incorporate what he does do well. Out routes? Hook routes? I think he's going to feast in that 11-20 yard range...and I don't think anyone is going to out hustle or out work him to the ball.

That was always a big complaint I had with Gabe Davis. Seemed like far too often when a DB got position on him to make a play on the ball Gabe was a bit passive. Resulted it a fairly high INT% when targeted. I don't see that problem with Coleman.

I don’t think he will be targeted 40 yards downfield a ton but I do think he will be asked to run plenty of crossers, etc… in addition to those deep routes.

I also hope occasionally he will catch the ball short and be asked to run a long distance

Yes, let's use the abysmal performance of the WR room the second half of last year as the low bar threshold by which to measure what will be considered acceptable performance or not this year. The offense struggled. Maybe it won't with Brady and the new players, but I'm not all that confident about it. Kincaid is going to have to be the main target, I think, so I hope he has a leap and not a sophomore slump year.

Yea- I think a lot of people are forgetting how much Josh had to do down the stretch. We really need a big step forward, not just breaking even

Couldn’t agree more.  First, I think Coleman could have a bigger season than probably m at least 3 or 4 of the WRs taken ahead of him.

Second, you can tell the vast majority complaining about him literally know nothing about him and are making up assumptions over what they perceive his combine 40 time means.  And they also ignore that his 40 time was much better at his pro day and that he showed it wasn’t a fluke as he also has the fastest gauntlet of anyone at the combine which is a much bigger indicator of in game speed.

And quite frankly if anyone associates 40 times with mainly how WRs get separation then they don’t really understand how WRs get separation.  Ask any coach, GM, or scout and they will tell you as a stand alone stat the 40 times are the most overrated stat of the combine and overly fixated on by the media and fans.  It’s small part of a much larger picture.

then why doesn’t he get separation, alpha?

Shakir all the way imo.  We got a taste of his true abilities last year.  To be honest I think we will see 3 wr's over 700 yards and at least 1 TE over 700 yards.

This offense is not old school.  Its going to be production by committee.  We have too many weapons with too many unique talents to stop.

Everyone wanted big flashy WRs, without realizing this offense moving forward is designed to never be stopped no matter who we play.  We are not a 1 trick pony.  We got great ground game, seam game, deep game, slot game.  Pick your poison.

Im super pumped for this year.

700 yards is 41 per game

heck, if the guy hits 100 twice that’s 33 per game the rest of the way

I have to assume that most of the people roasting our receiver talent did not watch the last 8 games of last year when we went on our winning streak. Our offense did not run through Diggs, it ran through Josh and then through Cook, then through Shakir. Diggs was able to be jettisoned because they have a plan to have Josh play like the GB offense last year, everyone is involved. We likely won't have a 1000 yard receiver this year, but we might have 4 guys with 700.

our offense can’t run through Josh for 20 games. He won’t make it.

There is zero correlation between 40 time and how good a WR. If he can run great routes, he can get open. We have other guys who can fly down the field. We didn’t have anyone who can out BAMF dudes for the ball.

wow, literally zero? If I run a good route I can be an nfl wr?

or is that a bit of hyperbole?

I could agree but I would have to dismiss Beasley, Brown, Shakir, etc. I think in the scheme of things he’s actually been fairly balanced.  Albeit without seeming to highly value a burner.

I don’t think the point was that he only gets one type for all 6 slots all the time always so much as he actively seeks a certain type as one of the starters

    Lazy comparisons

I agree but there may be some truth to comparing what he’s done here in a build - rebuild and what Carolina did when he was there.

Clearly some consistent pursuit of the big body possession receiver for instance, right? Not everyone chases benjamin-funches-trade for Benjamin-Davis-Coleman

not clones, but seems a certain archetype he may like

Boldin was drafted a year before Larry Fitzgerald. Boldin was the only WR Arizona had his rookie year- and he put up 101 catches, 1377 yards, & 8 TDs.

Touche- I’ll take my medicine on that one!

though I will say that he also had a ton more production his senior year too

he checked every box but speed. Coleman has the speed flag plus having to develop more.
