Yeah, they had several drives like that in the middle of the game that ended with them taking the ball out of Allen's hands despite him being hotter than any QB in memory. On a day when they lost two coin flips and subsequently ended up with 2 less posessions.........they couldn't afford to lose drives in that manner.

Yes........FAR too much is being made of it. The team that played better for the majority of the game won...........even though they missed two kicks in the first half. Almost stole one..........got another lesson in playing the Chiefs though...........all-gas-no-brakes is how you gotta' play on offense. They tried to get out of a shootout in the middle of the game and that backfired. Would have been awesome to win............would have gladly taken it..........but they didn't "deserve" it.

Frazier getting second interview with Joe Schoen and NYG

You guys just want to say "but maybe McDermott and Beane's Bills would have been a bad place for Mahomes to develop".............I literally pointed out reasons why it is very unlikely they would have kept Mahomes from becoming great in relatively short order. As usual the "but the Bills woulda' ruined him" crowd really has no reason for their take other than just because some other QB's failed with other coaches. It's utter vaguery. -
Anyone who didn't assume the son of a relative NFL offensive coordinating icon and former big time NCAA head coach(USC and Pitt).........with his playing experience and academic background.........would someday become an NFL HC.........probably wasn't paying much attention. Doesn't mean he will be good............but if anything it's surprising it took that long for him to be handed a job.

Just fyi.........in my experience this board is not at all representative of the fans that actually attend Bills games either. We have some locals and ST holders but the majority of the content and the emotion of the board is driven by ex-pats who often have a very different view of things than the people actually living it everyday in WNY. You aren't really going to meet "TSW" at a home game.

If I'm not terribly flexible to vague presumptions........I'm sorry if that hurts the feelings of people who just want to argue blindly for the sake of doing so.........but don't tell me Patrick Mahomes is a product of a system..........the guy was raised by a pro athlete to be a pro athlete.........he was absolutely dominant in college throwing for 9700 yards and 77 TD's in his sophomore and junior seasons before declaring..........we aren't talking about a guy who was just learning how to play quarterback when he arrived in the NFL. And the whole notion that Andy Reid was an offensive genius his whole career is false............his Eagles teams were actually most successful on defense(see Jim Johnson)...........and Reid and Alex Smith once teamed up for an ENTIRE SEASON where the Chiefs didn't throw a single TD pass to a wide receiver. And this was AFTER Alex Smith had put up 600+ yards against a Bills team.....the most yards they've ever allowed in a game.......... in his last year in SF. So it's not like Smith was lousy before Reid got his hands on him. Reid is a good coach.........but he couldn't turn water into wine. Mahomes was going to be a great player, regardless. -

1. I didn't say their offense was anemic that season.........I said it was when they played the Bills and the McDermott/Frazier defense. Smith was not able to access weapons in the passing game the way that Mahomes is. They probably had a better offensive team around Smith then than they have around Mahomes now...........like I said, they had the league's leading rusher in addition to Hill and a younger Kelce. 2. Did Josh Allen not "suck" his rookie year? The Josh Allen we saw Sunday is a FAR f*cking cry from the Josh Allen of 2018. Wasn't he the least accurate starting QB in the NFL in 2018? Let's not pretend that Josh Allen came into the NFL anywhere close to as developed as Mahomes. Mahomes was a stud in his first career start in 2017 and was the best player in the entire league in 2018. He was going to be damn good one way or the other. If anything he may have almost leveled off immediately because he was already arguably the best QB anyone had ever seen in 2018. Allen probably just reached Mahomes 2018 level late in this season. -
Ken Dorsey - would he choose OC here or leave to be Daboll's OC?
BADOLBILZ replied to Heavy Kevi's topic in The Stadium Wall
I know his alma mater The U reportedly has a salary of over $1.5M per year on the table in search for their next OC. Daboll was one of the highest paid OC's in the league in Buffalo at I believe around $2M. So I think Dorsey might have a decision to make between college and the NFL as well. -

So as rookies: Patrick Mahomes as a Bills rookie in 2017 with Sammy Watkins and a strong OL that had just lead the NFL in rushing for two straight seasons supported by a solid veteran defense........a team that would make the playoffs with Tyrod Taylor and without Watkins.............or Josh Allen in 2018 stepping into the worst offensive personnel situation in the entire NFL, HANDS DOWN.......dreadful receivers and a horrific OL. No question Mahomes would have had an easier path. Does Mahomes throw 50 TD's as a rookie? Probably not. But does he suck? Hell no. Go back and watch Alex Smith with Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce and the league's leading rusher Kareem Hunt in the game against the Bills in 2017. Anemic. Make no mistake that Mahomes has elevated the talent around him from his first start late in 2017 and thereafter. He needed a redshirt season to succeed like Brady needed to ride the pine for 3 seasons before he was ready to compete in NE. You are asking a question just for asking sake.............not because it actually makes any real sense. -

BADOLBILZ replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah.........and the mistake some Bills fans make is thinking that the Bills are the team in position to improve and the Chiefs will stay status quo so they can be caught. I just saw a 2021 re-draft on TDN..........and while Rousseau went 21st overall in hindsight..........the Chiefs had 2 players that they deemed would have gone in the first in a re-draft.........the two lineman Humphrey(2nd round) and Smith(6th round). While I generally disagree with interior OL going in round 1, the point is that they have just as much ability to improve and they have been aggressive and successful in doing so. -

I don't make the assumption that Patrick Mahomes somehow couldn't succeed in Buffalo anymore than I assumed Allen couldn't succeed in Buffalo. Mahomes is an incredible athlete/player/competitor............if anything he had an edge entering the league because he grew up the son of a long time pro athlete and played in a more sophisticated system in college etc.. That "but he wouldn't have succeeded here" losers lament was always a crutch Bills fans leaned on. Brady couldn't have made it with this team...........Big Ben couldn't have made it in Buffalo...........if they hadn't traded that pick for JP Losman they could have drafted Aaron Rodgers but he couldn't have made it in Buffalo...........Russell Wilson couldn't have made it in Buffalo with that staff...........transcendent talents also elevate their environment. -

Yep, love Josh. But Josh wasn't in the 2017 draft. The Bills reticence to draft a QB on only 5 months notice..........and the subsequent trade of a pick they knew was going to be one of those QB's to a division rival.......for bad draft capital value to boot.........made the Chiefs dynasty possible. And yes, nowadays what is likely 3 straight SB trips and 2 titles would certainly be a dynasty. Maybe in a decade in review they will have come out of the period with more success............but the point is...........you don't decide what draft in which you pick your QB..........you need to always be prepared to pull that trigger when you don't have one. They were fortunate to avoid the fate that Buddy Nix did when he tried to build the team up and then ended up with a draft with EJ and Geno at the top when he was finally comfy enough to make his move. -
If Brady retires, would you want Gronk for one season here?
BADOLBILZ replied to Peace Frog's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yep, but it would have to be a discount over what they offered him last offseason when he chose to pass on Buffalo the first time.........because cap space is going to be tight and TE2 isn't at the top of the priority list. -

Our personal preference for "our guy" doesn't make 1 Lombardi(and perhaps counting), multiple AFC titles and an MVP award for the team we traded Mahomes to go away. It's fixable..........but it's certainly a mess of the Bills own doing that their path to a championship is now twice blocked by said QB they traded to a longtime AFC rival. Point though is that it was never a valid excuse. You don't need more than a few months to identify a QB and decide if he's worthy of selection..........the teams that haven't hired new HC's will still be evaluating QB's...........it was a convenient excuse for a very perculiar situation they put themselves into. -
Oh I'm all for them improving the D. And those are the positions I'd address..........sign Von Miller........sign DeVondre Campbell...........sign Donte Jackson. All do-able if they make it to FA, IMO. Move Edmunds to OLB and play more 4-3 to help stifle teams that are trying to run at you............and become much more multiple and opponent specific. Use the draft to add YAC receivers and speed and OL help for the future. But don't get your hopes up that you are going to keep the Chiefs from putting up 5 TD's in a game where each team might have 12 possessions..........put the game in your QB's hands. The Chiefs have spent a lot on D too and they play well but they know their identity..........they are Patrick Mahomes team and they don't take the ball out of his hands like the Bills did with Allen a few times Sunday. And also don't think the Chiefs are just going to lay back and let you catch up to them............they greatly improved their OL and bolstered their defense this year.........they probably won't be as stupid as they were when drafting Clyde Edwards Helaire as a luxury pick with the Bills right on their tail now. They will likely try to bolster their secondary and get even faster on offense now. They won't be stationary. LA and Denver(if they get Rodgers) will be after them in division too.

Do you want KC to cruise to the Super Bowl title?
BADOLBILZ replied to Charles Romes's topic in The Stadium Wall
Cinci is in the "never won a SB" column..........I'd like to keep it that way and not put any helium into Burrow and company. Gonna' be tough enough de-throning the Chiefs without Cinci getting any championship swagger out of this year. As for the SB..........Chiefs or Rams is fine..........but a Chiefs win probably does make the Bills look like the second best team and adds prestige to their meetings in the near future. The game in Arrowhead next year might be called SB LVI 1/2 then. That's what a lot of people on here want for the Bills..........credit and praise and respect from the media and NFL community. -

I remember when the Bills hired McDermott on January 11 of 2017................some of the dumber Bills fans thought that was so late that the Bills couldn't possibly have time to evaluate QB's for the 2017 draft. It's January 25th and there are 9 openings.........guess they will have to move the draft back until June at this rate...........to be fair, ya' know. -
Well that kinda' attitude from the team probably wouldn't be appreciated seeing how Diggs didn't force the Bills to cut him a new contract and has played thru injury to be in all 38 games as a Bill and run a ton of short and painful routes to earn his pay the last couple years. Davis was injured and inconsistent for much of this season.....he's missed 6 games in two years and was too hampered to contribute much in others.........then didn't get vaxed and missed the biggest regular season game of the year in NE.............then he gets all the glory in the playoff game while Diggs ends up looking like the "decoy" that Bills fans once called Sammy Watkins. I could see someone with a past history of getting irritated by perceived slights or unfairness feeling a little put out by that. Adding a big YAC guy to the slot position would serve to help Diggs get back to putting up big YPR numbers again and likely staying healthier in the process. As for all of the needs you are talking about...........defensively there are more ways than one to do a better job against the Chiefs...........but it's likely you won't be able to hold them under 35 in Arrowhead in a playoff game either way. The Bills scored TD's on 10 straight drives in the past 3 games.........with some additions the potential is there to be the first team to average 38 points per game in an NFL season if they can add some YAC/speed/quickness to their unit in 2022.

Tommy Doyle doesn't have a 300 gallon stomach like Davis...........and he was also a 5th round pick not a 1st rounder. And blocking the man in front of you is a lot less physically demanding than rushing the passer while pushing thru double teams and then chasing the QB and ball carrier sideline to sideline and downfield................no offense to you being a former OL of course but there is a reason you don't see many successful DL the size of offensive tackles. And the biggest difference to the D in 2021 was that the LB's were healthy all season. They were really banged up in 2020. Next was improved pass pressure and overall run D. Ed Oliver made a big jump in impact. As did Phillips later in the season. Greg Rousseau actually tied for the NFL lead in run stops. Addison was a much better version as well. Lotulelei contributed in his 8 starts but he was only really a big positive in a handful of games early when he was able to really rush the passer after getting his weight down to 305 on his long vacation. He missed the opener with a leg injury........then missed more time later with another muscle injury..........then he got Covid........then missed time late for personal reasons.........wasn't a good or particularly impactful season at all for Star.

Yep, just like nobody will make a mark on the VCR world again like Sony did when they introduced that first commercial model. The rock world has been dead for a long time already............things stopped getting duplicated in that genre decades ago. It had a very brief run but my kid's generation will look at it like I looked at Bing Crosby and Danny F'in Kay........nostalgic entertainment kitsch.

So you are saying that Davis would have had 200-300 tackles 35-51 TFL and 15-22.5 sacks in his senior year if he played at Stanford instead of the more modest 32/5/2 stat-line he had at Georgia? Imagine how much better he would have been than Aaron Donald if he had played at Pitt then. Cuz SEC is better than ACC, amirite? Josh Allen would have probably never gotten off the bench if Stetson Bennett were ahead of him at Wyoming on accounta' Bennett winning a national championship playing in the SEC. You sir, clearly have a loose screw for Georgia players. We can agree that defense in the NFL is primarily about stopping the passing game........something that Davis hasn't shown he is exceptional at in the NCAA..........so if you need a 360 pound guy with some ACTUAL history of rushing the passer in pro football..........just collect Jordan Phillips back off the waiver wire and ink him for league minimum after Arizona cuts him in March.
-
Whatcha' think a $13M guaranteed contract MLB in his walk year who makes no big plays, is very inconsistent in run defense and is coming off two straight seasons of 105+ passer rating allowed is worth in trade? With all the coaching changes, we can always hope a Bill O'Brien-esque GM to come into power elsewhere and give the Bills something nice for him but I kinda' doubt anyone would give up much to put him at MLB and teams that think they can transition him to OLB aren't going to want to try that experiment at that cap hit.

Point is that one player was an active tackling machine with zero question about his conditioning..........the other was a 45% of snaps rotational player with modest production and concerns about conditioning. But if nothing negative comes out about him and he's on the board late in the 3rd round like Phillips then that pick makes sense. Fit right into that rotation as a cheap 40% snap guy for a few years. My guess is he doesn't fall that far unless a medical or character issue gets exposed but at 360 one or the other might just pop up. Last thing the Bills need is a Mekhi Becton situation with their #1 pick right now. Round 1 is for money down players and players who can win outside in one on one positions..........Davis is neither of those at this point.
-
We should rejoice if some dumb team takes a center in the top 25 and let's a player at a big dollar position fall down to us. People need to learn that that first round pick should be a player who you can't realistically acquire for reasonable money in UFA............a guy with a $25M-$30M aav ceiling when they pan out. No runnin' bax, no guards, no centers, no off-ball LB's, safeties, RT only's or run stuffing DT's.. Good players at these less expensive positions regularly make it to free agency and sign for much less than the very few good but lesser players at QB/PassRush/CB1/WR1/LT who don't get a second contract with their drafting team. Let other teams draft those positions early and then when those players reach UFA and they can't pay them because they have to pay top dollar for distressed merchandise at actual KEY positions in UFA..........you have the money to sign a Micah Hyde or Mitch Morse if you need a stud at those spots.
