My impression was that the majority thought it was a bad/wrong football decision. But the talking heads are usually somewhat behind the times for some reason. They probably all picked the Pats last night.

I'd rather take my chances with the rook. I think Fauria might have had a good day next Sunday. BTW just can't stand the fact that other teams (Lions, Giants, Tampa Bay) seem to find good TE undrafted or late round selections. Wish we could do that.

I'd rather have Benjamin, Bridgewater and 2015 first than Watkins. And I think Sammy will be a great player.

It's all just retrospective analysis but they would have been better off waiting a year and bridging with a vet, as they had already planned to do anyway with Kolb.

Plenty of good wideouts in last years draft. And a good looking QB prospect went at the tail end of the first.

I confess I don't know what to make of Whaley. To me he is one of these people who are quite capable of being at the same time very good and very bad.

Pats badly lost the battles in the trenches on both sides of the ball. I knew they were having O-line problems but I thought there D was going to be pretty solid. Chiefs RBs obviously had a great day but they also got incredible holes to run through and consistently at that. Is the Chiefs O line really that good or are the Pats really that bad.

I respect Marrone for taking this decision. It was the right thing to do but I'm sure it was not easy for him. Gives me some hope that he might be the right guy for a difficult job after all, despite his mind boggling pressers.

What you evaluate in looking at players is their ability to perform. It's a bottom line driven objective inquiry that is not and should not be personal. And the bottom line is that neither one of those guys can play the position well at this level of competition (even if they are both great as people).

Bust. Unless they make the change very soon, the only item of interest will be in seeing exactly how the train wreck plays out.

Eli is a top shelf QB, definitely franchise and possibly elite when all the dust settles from his career. The initial responses to the OP just reinforced my impression that some folks are just flat out delusional.

Hmmmm....let's see. One great throw out of what... Maybe 20 or 30 attempts? I saw Thad make some pretty good throws occasionally last year. Definitely big time, no question. Common sense suggests an outlier, or maybe just a fluke. Eli made consecutive multiple big time throws last night. That's what you won't get with EJ.

Skins D is terrible no question about that. Eli made a bunch of throws yesterday that you will never see EJ make. No question about that either.

2012 was a bad year to have to pick a cornerback

I'm nervous about this game, the more so because it is so important (to both teams). EJ seems to struggle against 3/4 Ds. Can't read the linebackers. Though Texan's run D has been porous, they have so far also had to defend the pass too. Facing EJ will be different, and easier, than facing RG3/Cousins, Eli or even Carr. As someone said earlier, just follow the Chargers blueprint. Take away EJs first read.and let the fun begin. If you are not a threat to throw the ball more than 5 yards downfield, your run game will struggle.

EJ has been playing football all his life. If he doesn't know how to throw a football by now he never will. He is not a natural. He is robotic. There is no fluidity to his reactions. And that has nothing to do with his physical attributes. It is a reflection of his mindset. In other words he is just not at home on an NFL playing field. An NFL QB needs to act like he owns it, even if he sometimes winds up taking his lumps. He's a great kid. I like his stat sheet. But he's not an NFL QB, or at least he sure as heck doesn't look like one that I've ever seen. A purely subjective impression to be sure, but strongly felt. Hope I'm wrong, but don't think so.

I agree. When the apologists are on their heels they tell you that EJ only needs to be a game manager. Actually they are right, but the problem is that good game managers are hard to find and EJ probably lacks the ability to be a good game manager. Orton is a bona fide game manager and IMO could be very successful with the tools at his disposal. If the O can play well, the whole dynamic for the team changes and I believe we could make a run this year. With EJ under center it's just not happening this year and perhaps ever.

And we only need him to be a mediocre game manager, don't we?

I've got nothing against Teflon Tom. I don't disrespect him personally and I admire his many accomplishments. He was a great player and he's still a good QB IMO.
