Trent Edwards - Your Expectations For 2010
PDaDdy replied to SouthernMan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In addition D-Ice those victories were ALL against teams that finished the year below .500. It was an inflated record against horrible teams. (I assume we are talking about the 5 - 0 start). If I am not mistaken there was scoring help from special teams and the defense to even achieve 5 - 0. Let's not forget the fact that Trent life time has a ridiculously bad record against 3 - 4 defenses. The only thing that could help him is that he sees a 3 - 4 defense now in practice every day. Time to give Brohm a shot and consider Jake Locker in the 2011 draft. My prediction for Trent in 2010 is him performing fellatio on the field. -
Once again we didn't play what we practiced

It's time to see what some of these guys, including Donte, can do in the new system. Sometimes in the correct system with effective coaching underperformers can find their niche and flourish. Unfortunately conversely sometimes the opposite is true. It will be interesting on both sides of the ball to see who emerges with the whole new organization. Hopefully we won't have anyone who finds the new organization a detriment. Byrd in particular. He was, and to an extent George Wilson, were the only real stars on the defense imo last year. Plenty of guys that did a good job for 3 quarters but I place a high value on guys who can get us the ball from the defensive side. -
RALPH IS CHEAP WHERE IT COUNTS!!! Ralph will not pay for probowl players. He has consistently allowed players we have drafted who have developed into star and or probowl players leave because he refuses to pay them market value. In particular CB is probably the best position to use as an example. Next would probably be linemen like Pat Williams and Jason Peters. Ralph is known for overpaying for average talent though. This no doubt inflates the salary numbers from year to year without seeing the results on the field.

When the Wheels Came off in 2009

Sorry if I used your post as a vehicle to rant but please provide a link to the lazy half stepping quotes!!!! That would be news to apparently everyone but you. Since you did go there I'm not arguing with a deaf dumb and blind 3 year old. Wahhhhh waaaahhhhh. Jason Peters wanted more money so I will call him names and question his accomplishments in life. He went from undrafted tight end to 3 time pro bowl LT inside 5 years. Lazy no talent guys do that all the time right? You are a reh -tard. How do you even have a drivers license? -

First off I think anyone that makes it into the NFL has a base level of desire and work ethic. Just as some players influence others around them, some players influence public opinion to the point where joe six pack who works his ass off at home thinks that all professional athletes are lazy and greedy. Simply not the case my friend. I think the main reason why some people are disillusioned is that they forget that the NFL is FIRST AND FOREMOST A BUSINESS!!! This isn't pop warner. This isn't Friday Night Lights! This isn't The Replacements. These are highly talented specialists of which there are only a few thousand in the world. They deserve to be paid like it like any other employee who has risen to the absolute tip top of their profession. Like all people with jobs, including myself, we want to get paid what we feel we are worth. If you are kicking ass at your job and perform at a high level you should be compensated more than your peers. If you went from cashier to manager but still make a cashiers salary YOU ARE A BALL-LESS IDIOT! Now imagine working as acting manager for 1, 2, 3 years while the owners promise that you will be taken care of when your contract runs out. Hog wash! Dockery and Walker were journeyman lineman who were average players. This is TYPICAL of our front office. We will overpay for average talent but we will release star probowl players. That is the Buffalo way! SOOO....end result is we have a bunch of very well paid NON star average players. The only STARS we have are basically working under their rookie contracts and will leave Buffalo as soon as they can because they won't get paid what they are worth. My hope for the future is that Nix and Gailey realize that this is a recipe for 7 - 9 mediocrity and won't continue to do things in this moronic manner!!!! -

UH WRONG! People need to quit their anti Peters campaign. Ya his lazy, joke cracking, tv watching attitude got him to THREE STRAIGHT PROBOWLS!!!! If you think a lazy, no talent half stepper makes it to 3 probowls you are a freaking moron. Some people hate him so much they actually try to say the probowl doesn't mean anything. "Sour grapes" from the haters. They don't send bums to the probowl. YOU CAN'T QUESTION THE RULER BECAUSE YOU DON'T LIKE THE MEASUREMENT!!! WE screwed the pooch and let a 3 time probowl LT get away because the front office are cheap bastards and wanted Peters to continue to play on his RT salary. For those who have conveniently forgotten, the contract Peters signed that he was trying to get out of was signed when he was a RT before becoming a multiple probowl LT. -
CAVEAT C Don't assume all completion percentages are the same. High percentage dump offs don't amount to much compared to hitting a slightly lower percentage of medium to long range passes.

Which quarterback are you pulling for ultimately
PDaDdy replied to Glass To The Arson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Jake Locker!!!!....Or Brian Brohm if you are limiting me to QBs currently on the roster -
Good luck with that. People are still moaning about Donte Whitner and will be moaning about Maybin unless he gets his ass in gear this year.
-
I don't hate on Poz I just see him as the average solid contributor that he is. He is not a star or a star in the making. Totally unfair comments about Fletcher by the way. He has gotten it done FOR YEARS. 13 or 14 I think you mentioned. He only played with "Fat Albert" last year. For shame trying to explain away his success because he played behind Haynesworth 1 or 2 years. I have an idea but I honestly do think that fans give Poz way too much credit. That is not saying he is bad but I'm also not saying he is great. His on field performance doesn't match up to his rep. Another example. Whitner is an average solid NFL safety. Whitner was drafted in the first round so since he is not a super star people want to trade him for some bubble gum and pocket lint. We move up in the second round using up additional draft picks including our second round pick to get a guy that is not as good as the guy he replaced and he is a fan favorite. Hrmm, maybe it has something to do with how Poz spells his last name?
-
Woodley is the comparison to Poz. Maybin and Orakpo will also forever be linked. We really screwed the pooch on Orakpo. Poz was just a waste of resources. Can anyone tell me with a straight face that Poz is better than London Fletcher the guy he replaced? Fletcher is more durable and is still getting it done better than the "fan favorite" Poz.

The grades are the grades. I hope Chan turns out better than a C. The O-line grade is spot on. Until that line proves it can pass block, open holes and STAY ON SIDES they don't deserve anything better than a D or maybe an "incomplete".
-
DUDE! Seriously. You are so right. I so hate that. We have fast WRs but if your QBs have dead arms and can't use the speed or throw it into tight windows it's all wasted.
-
I think at about 3:18 in that video in the highlight against Georgia Tech is when Gailey knew he was going to draft Spiller if he got a NFL head coaching gig. LOL
-
Interesting point there. When Lynch played in the probowl, something people forget when they want to trade him for some bubble gum and a 5th round pick, he actually led the AFC in yards per carry. Why? He had good offensive linemen to run behind for once. Lynch was also the RB called on when the AFC had to make a fourth down conversion. There was footage of the AFC coach whoever it was saying get me Lynch and tell him he better make it. Of course Lynch did. All of our RBs have talents. Yes, that includes Lynch for all the haters. When Lynch has a hole he is devastating. Unfortunately our line rarely ever opens one

Honestly I agree with you that I think the Bills will address QB next year...Check the signature. LOL. Do I think Troy Smith is "the answer" at the QB position? I have no idea. What I do know is that he would bring competition to a poorly stocked position on our team. I am also confident that he is very likely better than anything we have.
-
Uh news flash genius. Starting QBs don't play up to and through the half in preseason game 2. But thanks for also letting me know that he was the starter for preseason game 2 as well as preseason game 3 that year But hey....he wasn't the teams starter. Let me guess, did he start preseason week 1 too? LOL
-
Two points. I actually much preferred Jason Campbell to Smith even though I "prefer" Smith to anyone but potentialy Brohm on our roster because he is also "somewhat" unproven. Brohm however did "prove" that as a second round pick he wasn't good enough to back up Aaron Rogers and was moved to the practice squad not even 3rd string. Troy Smith is indeed unproven. Personally I would take unproven potential over proven failure any day which is what we have at the QB position. People need to stop thinking of Edwards as a raw rookie who hasn't been given a chance to see what he can do. Edwards is entering his 4th year having had many starts in each of the last 3 years. Proven failure.
-
I don't care how long the guys we have have been working their asses off. If they suck they suck and showing up for OTAs does not, or at least, shouldn't guarantee you a shot if you suck. Brohm is the only guy I have any real hope for. Gailey is known for creative offense and bringing COLLEGE concepts to the pros. Sound like it's right up the alley for a potential trade candidate QB? As for what it takes to get Troy Smith. Again, he was a 5th round pick and is of no use on their depth chart having signed Bulger to mentor obviously not play. What can Baltimore really be trying to get for him in return?
-
I think you missed the part about "unproven" but yes. It can't hurt to bring him in to complete. Could probably get him for pennies. In theory no QB should ever be "given" the starting job unless it is Manning, Brees, Rogers or Farve. Again Troy Smith was good enough to effectively beat out Boller and Flacco but got sick so I would take comfort in that accomplishment as a very good sign that he could come in here and compete with if not best our current crop of QBs. As you state he was a 5th round pick. What would it really take to get the guy? I think we could get enough money together passing a tin can around the office. I looked at his WRs in college and the name that stuck out was Ted Ginn Jr. Doesn't sound like a lot to work with to me.
-
Oh he was trolling for some hits. Even trolls come up with a good sounding board for ideas sometimes. I would LOVE IT if there were some actual substantive news regarding Troy Smith potentially coming to Buffalo. There are a handful of "back up" QBs in this league that I would love to see get the chance to start. Troy Smith "is" and Kolb "was" amongst them.
-
All it trumps is that he got his start DUE TO THE TROY SMITH ILLNESS. The silly point we are arguing is that Troy although technically unproven DID do well enough to earn the starting job in Baltimore over Boller AND Flacco. Soooooo the reasoning is why not bring him in to Buffalo to compete? Insert standard statement about the crap we currently have at QB. More competition at QB couldn't hurt could it? We have seen what the last few years have yielded shying away from anyone that could even remotely outplay Trent for the job. That being said Fitz AND Brohm both outplayed Trent. Honestly I would have preferred Jason Campbell because he has already proved he could do more with less in Washington. He went to Oakland early in the off seasons before Nix and Gailey had the chance to put the current chumps on the roster through their paces. (Still have hope for Brohm). It's too bad. Campbell went to Oakland for not too much if memory serves. He would have provided the first credible threat to Trentative since JP got the boot. It's time for some REAL competition at the position.
-
If I am wrong on technicality so be it. Preseason game 3 starter, IS AS YOU KNOW IF YOU WATCH FOOTBALL, the guy who will be the week 1 starter. So, again, if I don't remember correctly and it was JUST as the preseason week 3 starter, I'll give you your point on a technicality. I will also use my football smarts and I understand that that equals regular season starter. Preseason game 3 is THE only important game of preseason as the starters play through the half and give way to the backups in the 3rd quarter. OH, and the actual relevant part is that he would likely immediately become our best QB and at the very LEAST would challenge the collection of fodder we currently have on the roster But, I guess you are afraid that if we brought him in he might actually BEAT OUT your boy Trent. Well Mr lover of mediocrity I would rather see more competition at EVERY position with perhaps the exception of CB seeing as how we find diamonds in the rough and draft 1st round CBs every 3rd year.
