Ed Reed injury info. 31 is not the end of the world for a hard hitting safety but he is definitely on the downside. http://www.rotoworld.com/content/HeadLines...L&hl=175770

What would he have to "give up"? Troy Smith was a 3rd round pick and is "currently a backup". Another poster said this in a completely unrelated thread but fans are always so concerned what we would need to give up in the way off draft picks and consider them to be more valuable than gold...UNTIL THEY SEE THE GUY WE USE THE PICK ON. For the lottery mentality crowd they think that our 3rd round pick could be the next super star to set the league on fire and is too valuable to give up. How we should really look at it is is the player we are getting worth what we would potentially get in the draft. I would be ecstatic if we could get a guy of that quality with the NFL experience in the 3rd round in the 2011 draft. That is just one scenario. How about THIS scenario!?!?!?!?! WE TRADE DONTE WHITNER FOR TROY SMITH STRAIGHT UP!!!!!!!! Did anyone notice that Ed Reed by his own admission is at 35% and is likely to begin the season on the PUP list? Let's also not forget that Ed Reed has a bunch of miles on him and he is very injury prone. Donte Whitner might be a perfect answer for the Ravens at safety to fill in for Reed in the short term and eventually replace him. How is that for a win win scenario? Well...that is...unless you are in love with Donte Whitner and the stellar level of play he has exhibited on this team. Maybe the Ravens and their defense could get him playing like the 1st round pick he is.

I am optimistic for the direction the team is going to be taking under Nix and Gailey but like any other realist I am deeply concerned about the LT and QB position. Our plan at LT is apparently to try to hit the lottery and turn another UDFA or 7th round pick into a probowl LT. Good luck with that. Really, good luck with that. I hope somebody steps up. QB is even more or a gamble. I get that they want to give the guys they have a chance in a real system with real coaching but the cupboard looks pretty bare. Even if 1 of the three candidates can step up mentally I am not overly impressed with any of them physically. Brohm is probably the best thing we have from a physical perspective and might have the best of a group of mediocre arms. That being said I just can't agree with Nix/Gailey about not bringing another to guy to compete at the QB position. I think we really screwed the pooch on Jason Campbell as he has already in an even worse situation in Washington outperformed the motley crue we have. Troy Smith is another guy that could come in to compete. What is the worst that could happen? He PROVES that he is better than the fodder we have. How could that be a bad thing? His team mates and seem to think that he is more than just a back up. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/...ed-than-bulger/

What player does C.J. Spiller most resemble?
PDaDdy replied to Hossage's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Warrick Dunn was smaller and not as fast but was a GREAT RB. ...HRM...actually size and speed aside it's not a bad comparison at all but when I see Spiller I just don't see Dunn in his game. -

I think people are over thinking this. First off we don't know what he is going to look like in the NFL but we have seen him look incredibly promising in college. I think the rather obvious answer is going to be Reggie Bush all facets of the game offensive weapon with Chris Johnson speed and elusiveness. Reggie Bush is really fast but Spiller and Chris Johnson are on another level. No other comparison really sums him all up. That being said his rather obvious skills could negatively be impacted by a lack of talent up front and the lack of the threat of a deep ball if old noodle arm gets the starting job. It's up to Gailey to figure out how to use him. To utilize his ridiculous Chris Johnson speed and elusiveness as a pure RB we need and offensive line as effective as the Titans. Not looking so good in that respect. To utilize his multi talented "offensive weapon" running, receiving and return Reggie Bush like skills Gailey needs to be creative with him. Some may not think so but comparing him to Reggie Bush is a huge compliment. Before all of Reggie's injuries he drew so much attention from the defense it was ridiculous. The problem is that in New Orleans they used Reggie as a decoy too much in my opinion. He was very valuable to the team as a whole and helped them win a super bowl but you don't get stats for being a decoy and his numbers suffered. Obviously the is no comparison between individual numbers and winning the super bowl. Just talking about individual effectiveness and stats because of the thread topic. -
Finding a hidden gem is not a PLAN for success. It's like having winning the lottery as your retirement plan. That being said I'm hopeful we find something because it will be another LONG season if we don't. At the same time if we do strike gold again like we did with Peters we'll only end up losing the guy in 3 years because we won't pay him what he's worth either. There is an old saying that goes "it ain't where you're from...it's where you're at". The Bills want to pay these "hidden gems" based upon where they came from not what they developed into.

Will Lynch come into camp as out of shape as last year?
PDaDdy replied to Hossage's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Will you come up with a question worth posing? Lynch came in last year carrying more muscle. I won't even bother asking what prompted the question as it is obvious your intent was not to get a question answered but to make a statement that you felt he came in out of shape last year. Even if you didn't keep up on the news that he was carrying more muscle last year, too much of which will slow any player down, there is no suspension or missed training camp work this year to raise the fear that he might come in out of shape. Troll on oh useless one. -
Trent Edwards the next Bills Starter?
PDaDdy replied to Throwback Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
DUDE! What kind of new math is that? You say "In the Nfl if you start and win you get the win,". The rather obvious obverse to that coin is that if you start and lose you get the LOSS. BUT you go on to try to explain away some of his loses to artificially create some meaningless supposedly winning record? Are you kidding? Stats when used irresponsibly are for losers and you are proving that. You give stats guys like me a bad name when you pull this crap leading people to say stats don't matter. THIS IS WHY SOME PEOPLE DON'T THINK STATS MATTER. Trent is a proven loser and TEAMS get wins and losses!!!! As usual as fans we end up debating the wrong issue. I could care less if we won 10 games AS A TEAM with Trent. The point is we could win even more with a real QB, with a real arm and real balls!!!! -
Interesting Comparison Of TE to Sanchez and Henne
PDaDdy replied to yungmack's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Right. All I really truly needed to once and for all sink the nail in his coffin was to look at the highlights from OTAs. Edwards throws perhaps the ugliest wobbliest ball I have ever seen a professional QB throw. No wonder he can't go deep with any accuracy or timing. Lame duck city. -

PDaDdy replied to yungmack's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
LOL. Mel Gibson. You got me...that was funny. I have been known to be a little over the top. Sorry man. But ya...I can't blame this guy for predicting that we end up at the bottom due to an unresolved QB situation. As much as I want to believe in the whole pecking order thing and blah blah blah, the old saying hold up 100%. If you've got 2 or 3, you don't have one. Unless we are to believe they are all just so ridiculously close in terms of effectiveness we are probably in some bad news for QB. The only hope is that our skill players and new coaching staff can provide some excitement. For us to really go anywhere but the bottom of the AFC East we will likely need a new offense as ground breaking and unexpected as the wild cat was a few years ago. -
Interesting Comparison Of TE to Sanchez and Henne
PDaDdy replied to yungmack's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What stats are you talking about? Checkdown completion percentage? YOU DO REALIZE THAT SANCHEZ AND HENNE WERE FIRST YEAR STARTERS LAST YEAR RIGHT? Sanchez is entering his second year in the league, Henne is entering his 3rd and Trent is entering his 4th and 4th year getting starts. (Yes Henne had 3 starts 2 years ago due to a Pennington injury). THIS is why they are saying that we are a virtual lock on the bottom of the AFC East. Edwards has had plenty of time to show us what he can do or more specifically what he can't do. These guys are unproven and have MUCH greater potential to improve on their performances of the previous year. Trent has had 3 years, going on 4, of mediocrity and ball-less checkdowns. -
Trent Edwards the next Bills Starter?
PDaDdy replied to Throwback Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not sure what games you were watching but I didn't see any demonstrated, much less heavily demonstrated, ability to pull the team together or encourage a calm demeanor in 2007 2008. If you take lifeless lack lust performance for calm demeanor I'll agree with that performance. Perhaps in comparison to JP Trent looked calm but he was actually less effective so I will give you that on a technicality. I'm not actually defending Trent but Rodger and Rothlisberger are rare exceptions who have succeeded with terrible lines. That being said Trent should have EASILY been able to show that he had something to give us "hope for the future". He displayed absolutely nothing to give me any hope for our future with him at the helm. -
If we beat the Titans, do we win the Superbowl in 2000?
PDaDdy replied to Skoobydum's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Without question yes. I said a few days before that game whoever won it would win the superbowl. For some reason at the time it seemed pretty obvious for me. Little remember fact Rob Johnson could have, should have, been the hero of that game leading the team on a last minute comeback a portion of which he played without a shoe with that white sock flopping around. Typical Bills though. We snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. -
Trent Edwards the next Bills Starter?
PDaDdy replied to Throwback Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Some people just aren't that smart man. It's sad. They want to believe so badly that Trent is really a STAR whose growth and progression has been stunted that they question the few things that are actually our strengths. WR is a mess of unproven potential but the exception, Lee Evans, is one of our few stars. Last year we also had the 3rd best WR to ever play the game, TO, and Edwards still passed to RBs and TE's quite ineffectively at that. There is a funny thing that seems to happen with GOOD QBs. They MAKE WRs look good. How many times have you seen good QB's succeed with previously unknowns at WR?!??!? WRs that did nothing before playing with a good QB and did nothing after? It's a yin/yan thing. I have said this a million times before. WRs CAN'T THROW THEMSELVES THE BALL! -

The same could be said for JP. At least HE had balls, a big arm and athleticism! -

You don't throw many picks when you are throwing passes 9 yards in the air. If the ball travels 9 yards and you get picked off you REALLY have problems. -

PDaDdy replied to SouthernMan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I missed your point. I absolutely agree with you. I have been really hard on guys that have been hanging on waiting for Trent to become the man and show some balls. I guess I should really feel sorry for them that like the rest of of us they are so desperate for success that they make all manner of excuses for why Trent isn't a good starting QB in this league. His 1 or two decent games after the concussion and his OWN ADMISSION that it has nothing to do with his performance are proof enough that that excuse is bogus. -

Using my time machine was this back in 2008 when we played San Diego without their best pass rusher Shawn Merriman and they started the season 3 - 10? One game does not a career make. Just checking *As an interesting side note that was the Lee Evans "throw me the damn ball I'm a #1 WR catch against the side of the helmet tip toe TD". Still love that. That is what you get if Trent trusts the guy and throws him the ball. -

Point taken I guess but basically I think you agree with us that he represents the potential for hope where as the others do not. -
Pat Moran reporting Edwards will be qb1 = continuity of FAIL
PDaDdy replied to bfw1234's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is a classic case of making the exception the rule. Brees is a RARE exception. Most of the time you know your QB sucks or has potential after 2 years. We didn't need that much time to tell that Edwards has no balls. I am not sure about Kelly but I imagine he was pretty decent in the USFL. Another thing that links these guys is both the ability and the desire to throw deep. Edwards posses neither of those qualities. -

There isn't a love fest per se about Brohm. Basically he represents hope for those who have opened their eyes and see that Edwards has always sucked and represents futility. Basically Brohm is a guy not named Edwards or Fitzpartick. -
