Loyal players continue to want to play for the team that drafted them. The only way we could POSSIBLY get anything for Schobel is if Nix sticks to his guns and doesn't release him. This unfortunately means they would potentially have to pay $8 mil in dead weight for a useless player who doesn't have clue one about the 3 - 4 defense. It also assumes that some team would actually trade us something for a guy they expect to be released any day.

Ralph has done some TRULY TRULY GREAT GREAT THINGS for the NFL. But his old school out dated negotiation style and approach is only over shadowed by the crypt keeper Al Davis. For some reason that guy pays rookies WAY too much money and doesn't compensate veterans like Richard Seymour. Do you guys remember the issues he and Bruce Smith had over the years? It wasn't all flowers and butterflies. Screw anyone who says different but Bruce Smith was the best sack artist to ever play the game. He made defense fun to watch. He came up with game changing plays on queue. So why do we hang around?..."On a long enough timeline, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero". Sounds terrible and morbid I know. I'm a bastard but without question the Bills negotiating tactics will be modernized at some point.

Stop making excuses. He rooked us.

Wow. Typical. So Aaron Schobel is only at fault because he is following the blue print set for him by Clements and Peters? They were young guys that had emerged as stars and weren't being compensated equal to their market value. Clements I absolutely believed should have been traded as I thought he was WAY WAY over priced. Peters deserved the money he got. Instead of being compensated and being a home grown hero he became a supposedly lazy greedy villain who, oh by the way, made the pro bowl YET AGAIN! I might have played into your hands but lets not shift the focus from Schobel. Aaron Schobel's situation, like I said, has nothing to do with money imo. He is trying for the Allan Haynesworth/Brett Favre combo. He doesn't want to switch to a 3 - 4 defense and he used the threat of retirement to try to dictate his terms to get EXTRA special treatment or get moved to another team. Part of me can't blame a guy for using the leverage he has. I have a suspicion, but I can't determine with 100% certainty, why the guy gets a pass from some who want to make excuses and don't call it what it is. For shame! Sometimes when I think about the possible reasons for why this guy gets a pass and others are vilified I lose some faith in human nature.

Actually I'm not forgetting anything. It could be Spiller. Certainly a possibility. But isn't it funny how this happens so frequently more years that not? The names change every time but the owner stays the same. You decide I guess. -
Can we finally just admit that Aaron Schobel's BS ruse about retiring was nothing but a selfish attempt to be traded because he didn't want to put in the work to become a 3 - 4 LB and he was tired of the Bills? He screwed the Bills by threatening to retire and placing unrealistic demands upon them regarding shortened work weeks during the season as well as skipping OTAs and training camp. He screwed the Bills out of potentially trading him to a team and getting something in return because now teams are just waiting for his release. He screwed the Bills out of finding a viable PROVEN replacement for his skills or giving them time to change strategies BEFORE the draft. This guy is a selfish prick who didn't have the stones to ask for a trade and be judged in the court of public opinion for jumping ship. Instead he orchestrated the situation such that he destroyed any trade value he had leaving the Bills high and dry. He was an up and down but often GREAT player. Unlike the Peters whiners, I won't question his skills and his probowl appearances because I don't like how he handled his business OFF the field. I will even give him credit for not pulling a complete Haynesworth by also taking the bonus money he could have gotten earlier in the year. Still this guy gave us the shaft. He doesn't have gold teeth and dread locks so people will probably give him a pass but he dorked us over pretty good. Apparently his supposed retirement and wanting to stay in Houston was all BS if he is willing to talk to any team other than the Texans. If that really is the case this guy hid behind his family as the excuse for why he wanted out of Buffalo. What a kitty.

There exists in practice what is called a slotting system in the NFL draft. You have the contracts of the 2 players above and below. You look at what #9 got last year and you "add a little bit". There is probably some average percentage increase from year to year that can be used as a guide. It's really not that hard. If you're not going to SET the trend by signing earlier you are doomed to FOLLOW the trend after others have inked their deals. If I wasn't a lazy bastard and at work I could probably calculate a 5 year deal and signing bonus that Spiller will eventually sign. I have no idea but if they are quibbling over fractions of percentage points it is a waste of everyone's time. CJ, the front office, the fans...AND THE TEAM. -

Give the guy credit where it is due. No matter what changes in the front office the Bills still can't handle contract negotiations well in terms of timeliness and fair market value for "elite" players. When you view the history you start to see this as less of a problem with new rookie prospects and underpaid probowlers and more of a problem with the owner. At least in recent memory the Bills have paid premiums for average players but refuse to pay big dollars to elite players. The Bills goal is to be average everywhere except for trying to milk prospects that have turned into elite players that have outperformed their contracts. -

I will not like it and I would rather whack my junk with a hammer. Hey, what do I know? Gailey's the coach. We will eventually find out if he knows what he is doing or like the other years somebody else is starting by mid season due to poor performance or injury. I don't really doubt his ability to get the most out of a QB but I do doubt that the most that can be gotten out of Trent is good enough.

Here is a hint Trent is the starter

Again what you fail to see is yes....currently Smith is a back up on the Ravens to Joe Flacco. If we assume that Flacco is better than Smith which I'm sure he is, what does that say about how he compares to the QBs in Buffalo? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Soooooo saying that he couldn't beat out Flacco and he could be miles and miles better than anything we have are not mutually exclusive statements. Get it?.....eh ...probably not.

Didn't know you were such a Donte Whitner fan. Personally I think George Wilson is better and Byran Scott equally as effective. In my opinion it's basically something for nothing. We have 3 guys that could very easily play the SS spot. Donte was the highest round pick and would likely have the most trade value. You know where a player was drafted tends to stick with them unless they have an opportunity to just play lights out and impress the hell out of everyone. You know, kind of like a 5th round project QB having a 1st round QB drafted entering his 2nd year in the league. What team wouldn't draft a QB in the 1st round with Flacco's potential when the best you have is a 2nd year 5th round project? Then perhaps the unexpected happened and Troy Smith actually developed. I don't have to grasp at anything. I know when I'm right and I certainly don't need validation from others to confirm that. Admittedly I do get frustrated sometimes trying to prove a point when others don't get it. But hey in the grand scheme of life it means absolutely nothing. Hey, at least I tried.

Ravens' secondary getting thinner by the day http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpag...NFL&id=4967 "Ravens DB Cary Williams has been suspended two games for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy. That certainly won't help Williams' chances of making the final roster. The Ravens' secondary was already tissue-paper thin with Ed Reed, Lardarius Webb, and Fabian Washington all questionable for the start of the season. The cause of Williams' suspension is not yet known." Donte for Troy Smith...worth a shot and frees up cap money from Donte's contract.

What player does C.J. Spiller most resemble?
PDaDdy replied to Hossage's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Dude. You kind of have that wrong. You may not like the guy but Lynch WITHOUT QUESTION is thunder. Maybe you can call Jackson Fire or Wind or something all together but sorry Beast Mode is the toughest runner on the team. -
We do actually agree on one thing. The Trent Edwards vs Drew Brees thread is a complete and total joke. Looking at Drew Brees' numbers and trying to make an assessment about Trent Edwards future is dumb. They have so little in common it is laughable.

Yo BetaPuppy! Can you provide the link for when Troy was cut? You are less than useless because you spread misinformation to the masses. Why do you even post? What is really funny is your statement about this being a 5 page post when it was YOUR REPLY ACTUALLY MADE IT A 6 PAGE POST! LOL...Oh the irony. What you people can't seem to realize is that wanting Troy Smith has less to do with him being the next Peyton Manning and more to do with Trent and company SUCKING! Such advanced logic might be beyond you but the idea is to promote competition at the position. If you want I am pissing myself for a real challenger. REAL competition. As I have stated before owners/GMs can get locked in on the guy they think should be the starting QB and will do everything to try to make themselves look like they didn't back the wrong guy. Ralph's good AFL buddy Al Davis is a PERFECT example. He lost a head coach and kicked Jeff Garcia out of town because he wanted to be proven right that Jamarcus Russell was a starting QB in the NFL. WRONG. He was a complete joke. Everyone knew it but Al. Why was Jeff Garcia run out of town? Because he was better than Russell. To give Russell every chance for success Al made sure there was nobody on the staff that presented a credible threat. It is entirely probable that that dynamic has been at work in Buffalo with the lack of any real competition to Trent. I personally want success for my beloved team. Continuing to coddle Edwards and challenge him with straw man candidates is not the way to achieve it.

I will be the first to admit I don't know much about college ball at all. I only know a little as it relates to the draft. At some point there has to be some buzz on a guy before he is even on my radar. I am not too bad at all in calling mock drafts obviously as things get close to the draft. That being said I will probably change my choice for a 1st round QB 10 times before settling in on a guy.
-
Donte was showing fake support in the teams starter. Ed Reed provided a comment about a guy that is languishing on the bench.
-
That is just down right nasty. Maybe Peyton Manning but Troy Smith?...No way! Your son has had plenty of chances to show what he can do Mr Edwards. It's time for him to move on.
-
Sticking with Trent is like paying someone to **** in your mouth....but hey....you're probably into that.
-
You're not getting it or you ridiculously over value the MEGA scrubs we already have on the team. Proven track record of failure is apparently better to you then a promising prospect.
-
Never indicated that it said he should be the full time starter. I stated that Ed Reed believes that he is more than capable of leading a team to a championship. It does not even say leading the Ravens to a championship. Just a team. He also feels that Troy is "the guy", at backup I assume, and Bulger is just another guy who has been around the league. "Speaking on 105.7 The Fan, Reed said that Troy Smith would be more than equipped to lead the team to a championship if asked. "I honestly think Troy was the guy and is the guy [at the backup spot]. . . . [bulger is] "just another guy that's been in the league and been around," Reed said. It's right about now Bulger may be wondering if he picked the wrong team. And Ravens management may be thinking they are better off getting rid of Smith soon. "
-
I don't see any comments from coaches or teammates in that post. Scheffler can have his opinion like anyone else. We'll see if they got Bulger to replace Smith or if they got him so that could deal Smith.
