Rumor: Trade Between Bills and Eagles
PDaDdy replied to Bangarang's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Getting Kolb when we have Fitz does nothing for us but give us two starting QBs. I agree we need someone behind Fitz but moving from #3 -> #23 with an additional 2nd round pick later in the round thrown in?????? Not liking that at all!!! You can argue all day who might be marginally better Fitz or Kolb which means it's a useless trade in my opinion. -
LOL. People will freak out about this post. Every blue collar Joe six pack type who is pissed about their station in life will say "big deal those guys get paid millions". Envy and hate. The truth is I don't think this practice is in the american capitalist choose your own destiny spirit! This practice even leads some players to make stupid sensationalist comments about lacking choice in their future in their chosen profession of NFL football that Joe six pack can't wrap their heads around. In every other area of american business an american citizen can apply for the job they want with the employer that they want. If they are found qualified they can be hired. The very next day, week, month if another employer offers them 2x, 3x, 10x the money they can say thank you very much but I will be taking a job with a new company. Not so in the world of professional sports. That being said, this sort of system is imperative for some sort of parity in the NFL. Even with this system in place we still have teams like the Bills who blow draft pick after draft pick and don't resign their good players after rookie contracts and let them walk. The whole owner player squabble is tough to get a bead on as the NFL like some other professional sports is unlike any other area of business in the country.

Confirmed! Bills are the worst-drafting team in the NFL
PDaDdy replied to Tortured Soul's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Truly sad but it's good to know we weren't just imagining that they screw everything up in the front office. How is this for a promotional gimmick? Let the fans pick Buffalo's first pick by way of online secret ballet!!!! At least the majority of the fans would get the guy they wanted and we literally couldn't possibly do any worse. It's not like we could rank 33rd in a 32 team league. -
I'm in favor of drafting a defender in the first round as my signature suggests but your comparison is a REAL head scratcher. Newton couldn't be less like either of those guys. If anything the comparisons are to Tim Tebow, Vince Young and Ben Roethlisberger. Big guys with athleticism. Out of that group Newton is the most athletic, the second largest and second best passer imo. I say second best passer because I am really not impressed with Tebow and Young as passers. Big Ben is the best passer and was more accurate in college if I am not mistaken.

Interesting point. I seem to recall some other player who was a first round draft pick that said they were surprised the Bills took him because they hadn't even had him in for an interview. I wonder if this is a common theme with them?

I see you not so cleverly left out the part where I said "and all it connotes". I am well aware of the dictionary definition of the word and you are well aware of the negative implication of the word. Please. Neither of us are that stupid to pretend not to know what you meant. Well, perhaps I should just speak for myself on that point Your tactics are lame and tired. I watch all the games blah blah blah. So while we are on the subject. How many games do you watch of each of these NFL prospects? I suppose you just happened to watch every minute of every game of Quinn's 2 years ago? You just happened to watch every minute of every game Miller played the last 2 years. Let's not even talk about the assumption that you have the first clue about what it was you saw. I doubt you are even able to have an opinion if it wasn't given to you by a commentator or talking head on College Game Day. Try speaking to the points not the source of those points. That is a tactic of someone who can't compete on the same playing field. Can't refute the message attack the messenger. LAME!

I was waiting for some news of the pro day. Thanks for the link.

Wow more incredibly enlightening statements from a would be rocket scientist. "There's more to stopping the run that being a fat piece of crap". I am loath to pick on other people's spelling or gramatical errors but "that"? Really? If you are going to try to insult someone's intelligence don't look like a moron doing it! Thanks for that nugget of wisdom. Nobody here knew that there was more to stopping the run than sheer girth. Your comments are so helpful and insightful. You should get a job as captain obvious teaching developmentally disabled people. They might actually appreciate what you are capable of teaching. So what is your source of information for Miller's ability to stop the run genius? Gailey? So your opinions are given to you by someone else? I guess seeing it, or not, with your own eyes no longer matters to the internet generation. I guess you wouldn't understand the subtle nuances unless someone tweeted it to you.
-
You are thick headed aren't you? Please quote where I refer to myself in that manner. The word ignorant and all that it connotes was all you. Your ignorant opinion should be ignored as a holier than though BS artist who supposedly spends every Saturday watching every college football game with an NFL prospect in it. It's lazy thinkers like yourself that think that the messenger is more important than the message and consider the source more that the statement. You haven't said a darn thing worth reading. In fact the only points you have basically made are that you think you are a more credible source of information, sometimes small guys can succeed in the NFL and Miller had a great college career. Nobody, including myself, disputed the last two points yet you keep speaking like somebody disagrees with you. Get off the psychotropics! On the first point however you are no more credible a source of information than anyone else on this forum including myself. You're just a blow hard who thinks because they watched a couple games that their opinion matters or is even accurate for that matter. Quinn is ranked as the highest 4 - 3 defensive end. Look it up! You probably already knew that but you are trying to be an ass and win an argument instead of providing insight that might be helpful to people. We already went through this as well but I'll apparently have to say it again as there is quite a bit of bone matter to traverse before things get into your brain. The consensus "expert" ranking on Orakpo was a bonus. You really need to work on your reading comprehension because it is at a 3rd grade "I know you are but what am I" level. If there was any doubt before, I will spell it out clearly for you. I DON'T LIKE MILLERS SIZE AND STRENGTH. He is small for the TWO schemes we play and is comparable physically with Maybin being undersized. Miller had a great college career no doubt. Smaller weaker guys in my opinion have a harder time transitioning to the NFL. They can play at a given size and weight in college and can find themselves too small and weak at the pro level. They can try to bulk up but they can lose speed and maneuverability. Bulking up and continuing to be effective are NOT a given. This also applies for guys that are used to being so much faster than everyone else. In the NFL EVERYONE is fast. Personally I would prefer not to take a chance on a guy that physically measures up to a guy who is potentially the all time worst Bills draft bust ever. Before you again go jumping to any conclusions that I didn't make it doesn't mean anyone Maybin's size will be ineffective and shouldn't be drafted. I am also not implying he can not be good at the NFL level. I just consider his lack of size and to an extent strength to be part of the risk as Quinn not playing his Junior year is a risk. Suppose all you want with your ridiculous assertions regarding Quinns Junior year had he played. It's on par with the 3rd grade mentality and reading comprehension level you have exhibited. My bad for expecting more. You are correct. How will his size or lack there of help us with our biggest problem which is to stop the run? I hope you aren't suggesting we use the #3 overall pick to draft a pass rush specialist who might be too small against the run and have to be pulled on 1st and 2nd down as well as 3rd and short? Don't we have a guy that we tried to do that with a couple years ago? But but ...Miller... College Game Day....TV Commentators....talking heads.... Go ask your mom for another hot pocket and some ritalin dude.

Hopefully you do see the leap of logic you made here that is completely incorrect. Any source of information like reading the written word on paper or a computer screen, listening to games and including watching the games on Saturday or highlights on youtube are MEDIA SOURCES. I am not listening to the opinions of PEOPLE in the media that try to tell me what to think. I will however consider the opinion of football experts over nameless faceless internet forum posters but I don't let them MAKE my opinion. As for you what is it about watching you saturday game in the media that gives you such incredibly insight that watching highlight videos and looking at stats don't? Is it the commentators telling you what to think while you watch the games? Is it the expert opinions of what teams and conferences are strong vs we? It can't be the video because the youtube video is OF THE SAME GAMES!! Drop the I watch college ball and you don't arrogant BS. All I did was state that I don't watch COLLEGE ball not that I don't watch FOOTBALL. Hopefully you consider this while trying to disregard my opinion and call me ignorant. So basically you have stated what I have stated but said it like it was something I didn't already know. Yes, I was comparing their size and speed. I suggested nothing else. I think you must be related to this miller guy or have a man crush on him as you see threats and accusations that aren't being made. There is no conflict in my thought process. You could definitely argue which is ranked higher Miller or Quinn. The fact that they are ranked #1 at two different positions does complicate the matter wouldn't you say? Orakpo was the obvious choice based on my size and strength criteria. The blessing of "experts" was an added bonus not the whole point. People love to take snippets of what you say then rail against it like it is your whole point. Good because I am tired of the well there are these 2 guys in the entire NFL that can do it so we should draft this undersized guy. Mathews! Mathews! Mathews! Let's get some size and strength in there. Someone that can ball and won't get hurt because they are playing "small". "Tough game for tough people" and a "big game for big people" Apparently you aren't aware that the videos are of the same games that you spend every Saturday watching. Must be nice to be independently wealthy to watch EVERY college game that has a potential NFL prospect so you can try to use it to validate your personal opinions for those that might be inclined to believe such bs justifications.
-
So you mean they aren't exactly the same? Thanks for that insight. LOL. Wasn't trying to be a jerk just stating the obvious. I believe the one year wonder label is misplaced on Quinn. He was suspended his junior year. As I have said before I am admittedly not a college football fan but how often do college guys have that kind of size, speed and performance as a SOPHOMORE and then tank it their junior and or senior year not due to injury or coaching/scheme change? If I'm not mistaken this guy did it against double teams too. Personally I am VERY encouraged by his wonderful year. Imagine if he reproduced those numbers or even exceeded them as a junior? This guy would well be in the discussion as the #1 overall player in the entire draft! It's not like this guy played last year and stunk it up. I guess you can assume the worst as you do or the best as some. Personally I look at it as an opportunity to get a guy that could be a star who if not for a suspension probably wouldn't be there for us at #3. This could be a stroke of luck. Size is indeed one measurable. Between two guys that can "play"...I'll take the bigger stronger just as fast guy every time
-
What media hype? Never did I state that I use that as part of my assessment process nor is there any media hype on Quinn to speak of. Dude, I think you believe your own hype too much since you actually watch college football. If you can't see any similarities between Miller and Maybin I guess no amount of explanation will provide that insight for you. Yes I do think Miller is an OLB only prospect. Sorry but I have long since been tired of the undersized guys. Undersized guys that are successful at their position are the exception NOT the norm. I get so tired of hearing "so and so played at weight X and they were good". As a general statement the odds are against the small, the slow and players that lack athleticism. In todays NFL I would prefer to see a 3-4 OLB in the 265+ range with the ability to drop into coverage when necessary. Throw in the fact that we play some 4 - 3 and Miller to me is TOO small for my liking. That assumption is based on these two groups of people being the same group. I don't have a problem with either of them.
-
Miller is the same weight, although shorter, than Aaron Maybin. Both were projected as OLBs and have speed and a supposedly great first step. Quinn is bigger and about the same size as Orakpo. Both were billed as OLB/DE hybrids. The difference is that 2 years ago Orakpo was far and away billed as the best DE/OLB in the draft. The morons at one Bills drive though thought they new more than the rest of the NFL world and went with Maybin.
-
Yep that is how I evaluate players. I have had a pretty good success rate too. I make this admission freely. I don't need to see hours and hours of game film although more information never hurts. Stats don't lie but they can be misused by those with an agenda. Highlight videos don't lie either but they don't show the players weaknesses. They are the distilled down essence of the player at his best. The trick is figuring out what the player's weaknesses are and how his highlights and game will translate to the NFL. Not being a college fan are those weak opponents in a weak conference? Again I'm not a fan. Did those teams all have losing records or play inferior opponents or something? I'm really trying to get an accurate, as possible, assessment of Quinn. I know I am in a small minority that would like to see us draft this guy but I have a feeling about him. This is completely and totally unfair but I see Von Miller and Robert Quinn as this years Aaron Maybin and Brian Orakpo. They are completely different players but I'm just not comfortable with yet another undersized OLB with a great first step trying to play OLB or DE in a 4-3.
-
His rookie year wasn't bad at all and his sophomore year was great! I think people are so high on him because he looks like a great talent and if he had played his junior year he might have been considered the best player in the draft. I am not a huge fan of college football but can you elaborate on him stockpiling sacks against weaker opponents? The opponent, their record on the season, the competition they faced? Obviously by way of my signature I would like us to take Quinn in the draft. I would like my decision to be an informed one and any information good or bad would help.
-
Dude give it up. Seriously. You are embarrassing yourself. You can't summarily dismiss peoples stats that they provide. You also consistently attempt to look at Fitz statistical performance in a vacuum when you point out negative stats but then look at Fitz as part of a team that had to throw a lot when others present positive stats. He plays one very important position on a BAD team. ALL of his stats positive or negative are a function of his individual performance as a member of a bad TEAM. You can't separate the two. Fitz did a great job at QB coming off the bench in week 3 with the crap we had to work with in all 3 phases of the game.
-
OMG YOU DON'T GET IT!!! Fitz is NOT Peyton Manning!!! Keep swinging for the fences and draft a QB whoever it is. Nobody has ever won a superbowl without a GOD for a QB.
-
Never said otherwise. I merely pointed out a positive statistic of my own. I have not discredited your stats because they are the same ones I looked up. To assert I am doing otherwise is to be guilty of what you accuse others of. You on the other hand attempt to discredit my stat of TDs per game. As I already mentioned you also ignore his supporting cast and myopically look at the QB position in a vacuum. If we do choose to look at the QB position in a vacuum as it appears you choose to do I would say just about the ONLY stat that matters is how many TDs the QB puts on the board. You can recite all the crap you want. Fitz was 8th in the league in TDs per game. Again, this is what I call your QB in a vacuum conversation. (If you didn't intend to look at the QB position in a vacuum see below) IF you want to look at all of the other particulars you open the door for everything team. For instance, ever ask yourself why Fitz had so many pass attempts? Perhaps because we statistically had one of the worst defenses in the league. To use your tactic we had a defense near the bottom in every "relevant" category. Certainly this makes for a less than ideal situation to play QB in This also leads me to my signature once again if you can find some time between your "LMAO" moments is we need to fix the defense. We aren't going anywhere if we can't stop the run, get off the field on 3rd and long and for god sakes put some pressure on the opposing QB. No amount of quaterbacking can fix those glaring problems. Until we can do those things we might as well have a JUGGS machine randomly firing balls down field. P.S. Mmmmmmm JUGGS
-
You are correct you said this: On a technicality you are correct but in spirit you almost said as much. You can't have it both ways. If you present negative stats I will present positive ones. Unlike you I won't accuse the other of pointing out stats that supposedly don't have an impact like....oh....I don't know....TDs/game?!?!?! Neither of us should forget that this seemingly simple game is a sum of all of it's parts. If you play with a crap defense, a shotty offensive line and some of your best WRs were second team offense guys I'll give the guy a break. Queue the Fitz's win loss record as a starter. Queue the teams win and lose games not individual players....and round and round we go. P.S. Oh and I forgot..."LMAO"
-
Why would Ralph have any input???? It's only his money and his team.
-
You can't have a hidden agenda if you make it clear to everyone as I have in my posts I want to know people's honest yes or no answer. It's really that simple. Not for my benefit but to cause them to think about their support of Newton or Gabbert at the #3 pick which is an indictment of Fitz. I'm not looking for satisfaction from others in the answer to say I told you so. I already told them so. Some forum posters with internet muscles would rather die than admit that they could be wrong even when presented with a logical valid argument. The question is relevant and there is no hidden meaning behind it. THERE IS NO WRONG ANSWER! I DO however take great satisfaction in asking a simple question in a discussion/argument that people can't answer. It is the closest you will ever get to an admission of defeat on an internet forum. If you can't answer a simple yes or no query with a simple yes or no answer you don't know what you are talking about or you really don't feel strongly about something that you argue so strongly over.
-
By the way. I actually agree with you on this. Sometimes we only comment on what we don't agree on and forget to also mention what we do agree on. I didn't think Trent was the guy either. We only differed in that I didn't want to spend the #9 pick last year on a QB. I was desperate to get anyone in here to compete with Edwards and to be honest I wasn't that impressed with Fitz. This year changed my mind and I now believe Fitz is very serviceable but not elite. Our argument last year was regarding getting an offensive tackle vs a QB first not if we needed a QB. In my opinion LT is even more so a bigger need than QB because Fitz showed some of what he can do as the actual starter not just a guy filling in. Everyone talked about how Bell needed to be given time etc. Well another year down and I am still not impressed. In many respects we have the same philosophy but about different positions. We need to stop getting by on the cheap and get some real talent in here at BOTH ends of the line. Maybe somebody we have on the roster steps up. Maybe they get beaten out by new blood. What we have now in my opinion is not working. We get nothing to the outside and only have one RB who is even remotely a between the tackles runner.
-
I don't need to pat myself on the back. But now that you mention it my question must be incredibly clever. I must have brilliantly asked a question that was so to the point hat nobody can answer with a simple yes or no question and instead write paragraphs about the question itself while never answering it. I'll give some concessions in he is not a guy you necessarily build around but I very optimistic about finally having a guy at QB that can get the job done. He is not Peyton Manning. He is not Aaron Rodgers. He is not Tom Brady. He is just a good QB that has shown promise at times in his career. I am optimistic that Gailey has more to work with in Fitz than some of the bums he got production out of in the past. I'm not looking for a Savior. But if we happen to find one cool. I just feel we have much much bigger problems on this team than QB. I don't believe in the damn the torpedoes draft and draft and draft some more a QB until we hit the lottery and find a Peyton Manning. It's not right but you spend too much time trying to figure out if the first round QB you drafted is the guy. There are broken franchises and a lot of wasted years all over the NFL from taking that approach. Getting "Lucky" oh the irony aside there are many more ways to make this franchise relevant again. One sure fire way would be to stop letting our talent walk and stop signing average role players to fat new contracts. I think we moved it quite well when they let it fly most of the time. That being said you do well state that the "offense" had trouble moving the ball. How much of the offense is attributable to the QB vs the o-line vs the WR vs the RBs vs the TEs vs the coaches vs the play calling. You get my point. Again football is a team sport I think it is incredibly illogical to blame the faults of the offense on one of its better performers. That is just crazy. No Fitz is not Manning. Get over it. He is however a QB that can contribute greatly to a winning team.
-
Thanks for at least being the first guy to acknowledge my question. Give me a yes or no answer for "would you be happy" and I will tell you my point News flash. Trent Edwards isn't our QB anymore. The one man QB crusade continues on. I was DEFINITELY NOT in that camp. I knew Edwards was a bum from day to. I never liked the guy because he didn't have an arm and threw the worst looking deep ball I have ever seen.
-
Fitz didn't win or lose any games. Team sport remember? Maybe his win loss record was so poor because the Bills are a bad team. You are so obsessed with the QB position that you forget that teams play games. Offense, defense and special teams. Stop being myopic and look at the whole picture. Fitz is not the problem. He is not the reason our defense can't stop the run. He is not the reason we can't get off the field on 3rd and long. He is not the reason our returners turn over the ball when the game is on the line. I know you are looking for a savior at QB but be objective!
