He can learn to run north-south. I expect him to improve in this way next season.
I think generally he hits the holes (when there was any) too quickly, not to slowly like you are saying. He needs to learn to wait for his blocks to happen. He tries to hit the hole too early and ends up trying to bounce it outside. I also expect this to improve next season.
I agree that he is too small, cannot pass block, and doesn't seem all that adept at running pass routes.
I hated the pick then and I still do now. If Gailey can figure out a way to use him effectively next season (which he couldn't do this season) and Spiller improves in the ways mentioned above, he won't be a bust. That is a lot of "if's" for a #9 pick going into his second season though.
I hope Nix does a considerably better job at the draft this year.
I'd rather he just kept his damn mouth shut and not said anything.
Or if he felt the need to make some kind of statement, make it just the second part of what he said (doing everything he can this off season etc.). One member, and not even a major contributor, of a 4-12 amazingly far from the playoffs team like Buffalo making a statement telling the teams fans to buy playoff tickets next season makes him come off sounding like a complete !@#$. In my opinion anyway.
Exactly. With two strong teams in the AFCE the Bills will always have a hard schedule.
That's 25% of their games right there.
But don't spoil the moment with logic, the world is out to get the Bills
Yeah you would think with the last game being such an embarrassment to the Jets they might STFU this time.
Too much to expect of a Rex Ryan team I guess.
They did do the right thing ... in a ass backwards sort of way.
Lynch wanted out in large part, I believe, because of the Spiller draft. He did not want a 3 way split of the touches.
Given the fact that the Bills drafted Spiller (a mistake in my opinion, but that's another matter) the Bills did the right thing in getting rid of Lynch instead of Jackson. Unfortunately every GM in the league knew the Bills pretty much had to dump 1 running back so it became a buyers market. But C'est la vie.
I sort of did, it was on my TV anyway. I cannot watch American Football for long without doing something else at the same time (too much dead time between plays and TV timeouts on every possession change etc.). So I had it on as I did other things and looked up when something of interest happened.
I imagine the same will be true this weekend.
Examples are going to be used whenever the topic of poor (particularly first day) drafting is being discussed.
The good news for you I guess is there are many more examples than the one you are obsessing over to use so maybe they will be.
The thing is, the example you picked is only one of many examples of drafting ineptitude.
The most recent being the CJ Spiller pick this past draft.
Some people (me included) think, and have thought since it was done, that it was a very bad idea to pick him at #9 for a multitude of reasons. Plus it was not a great first ever pick for the most recent General Manager (again, in a lot of peoples opinions).
As long as the Bills front office have their heads up their collective asses on draft day, you can expect to hear about all the bad decisions they have made over the decades. As Bills fans we can only hope Nix from now on, and all GMs that follow start making decisions that can give the fans cause to be happy and proud.
All the ex players that I have seen suck in my opinion, including in the studio.
Aikman, Simms, Boomer, Long, Marino, Sharpe, Bradshaw and the list goes on.
The ex coaches tend to do a much better job.
Would you like a little cheese with that whine?
131 yards and 1 amazing touchdown run right when they needed it the most.
Good for him. Don't hate on him because the Bills are incompetent.
But hey, we have Spiller so all is well.
Stupid decision in my opinion, if he really doesn't come out.
1) Projections I see are for a 60 mil contract with 30-40 mil guaranteed. Even if it isn't quite that much, he stands to make some serious guaranteed bank.
2) He plays one more year in college, has an off year, and slides down the draft and gets far less money.
3) He plays one more year in college and gets hurt. Career potentially over before it begins.
4) Big potential for rookie contract cap in 2012. The cap will be far less than 60 mil and 30-40 guaranteed, trust me.
If his Dad wants him to complete his degree for whatever reason, then go back and do the one year of college after football.
With the current affirmative action rules in place, and Frazier basically in Minn., I suspect Perry is going to be asked to a lot of dances in the coming months.
