  1. I know he won't be in this year's draft class, but I just love watching USC defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. He'll likely enter next year as a junior, and I'd be willing to bet my Nate Odomes autographed football card that Clowney will be the 1st name called by the commissioner.

  2. How about ruvell martin, dickerson, potter, or lee smith?

Who's this Dickerson Fella you speak of?

Seriously though, with regard to "who goes," I think this is pretty spot-on with the exception of Lee Smith. I love his "nastiness" and he seems to be a pretty good run blocker. I think Brooks coming back makes Ruvell Martin expendable, obviously Dorin Dickerson IS who everyone thought he was (great football player in spandex), and I think John Potter is off the juice. Potter has gone from Sebastian Janikowski to Martin Gramatica in just a few weeks.

  3. I didn't have a problem with Potter's kick offs last week. AZ has a dangerous return game and he booted them to the back of the end zone or out of it. I think the Cards player came out once and was tackled well short of the 20. I'm sure if Powell could boom them out of the end zone they would've considered it already.

That's funny...if I recall correctly, Potter only got 1/3 touchbacks vs the Cards and none vs the 49ers....

I remember the Cards game specifically because I had to hold my breath every time Peterson brought it out of the endzone.

  4. Now that he's not relied upon to be a starting CB, I think he has found his niche in nickle/dime packages. Also, props to McLovin for his special teams play. How Leodis has responded to his diminished role on defense, IMO, is a good indication about his character. He is willing to swallow his pride, work hard, and do what he needs to do to get on the football field.

One of my favorite lacrosse coaches always told us, "you have to show me that I cannot afford to have you sitting on the bench." I think McKelvin has proved that to this coaching staff.

  5. I'd like to have both of them back (Glenn and Urbik), but if I had to choose one it would be Urbik. Hairston has more than capably filled in for Glenn at LT, however, the drop off from Urbik to Rhinehart/Brown/Young has been painful to endure. If we can make it through this week without Glenn, he then gets 2 more weeks to recouperate and get ready for NE & Houston.

  6. Pears is what he is. Which is a good depth player and a second stringer.

I respectfully disagree....Pears has proven (IMO) to be an above average starting RT. In particular, he excells in run blocking....the guy is an absolute mauler. If they didn't have a walking tackling dummy next to him at RG the past few weeks, you would notice the Bills running right behing Pears a whole lot more.

  7. I came to the end of my rope today with Fitz.

The final straw came at the end when Fred Jackson was wide open

for 5-10 yards and maybe a first down.

It at least would have put us in a manageable field goal position.

    Perfect protection...He bounces it.

Thiggy would have hit Fred in stride.

Make the change to Jackson during the bye,

Looks like Fitz has had it.

So...you're proposing that Tyler Thigpen should take over as starting QB? Clearly Tavaris Jackson isn't ready or he might be taking snaps with the 2nd team in practice. I'm not saying that I'm not frustrated with Fitz's play, but what is the alternative? I don't understand the point of ths thread.

  8. +1. They were driving it down the field right down their throats and had the game in the palm of their hands. That call was criminal in that situation.

Agreed....it was 2nd and 8 and I would have been happy with two consecutive running plays. At least we would have taken some time off the clock, and the way we were running the ball, probably would have moved the chains. Horrible call given the game situation.

  9. I disagree with the OP in that I don't think Buddy Nix is the problem. In fact, I think he has done an exceptional job in his role as GM. I will say, however, that I thought it was a huge mistake to draft Aaron Williams over Brooks Reed. Brooks Reed was a no-brainer pick IMO, and I was absolutely stunned when Williams' name was called. That being said...hindsight is 20-20....yada yada.

I think the writing is on the wall regarding the QB situation. I suspect you will find that Buddy and Whaley will make upgrading the QB position the #1 priority this offseason.

  10. i definitely think sheppard has to be a contributor.. and certainly chandler has been money, hopefully continues.. i think the LB's have been the achilles heel.. maybe morrison needs to play..

With the exception of the Jets game, I think the LB's (especially Shepp) have been pretty solid. Of course, neither Shepp or Moats played much in the NE game (I think less than 5 plays), so it's unfair to judge the LB's based on that.

  11. It's tough to get handed a new crew & train them to all be on the same page in the first year is going to be tough. DW was given the keys to a Ferrari without the training to drive it, he's actually blown deals like this before as well. You don't spend the most ever for a defensive superstar when you have nothing else really set in stone, it's a go for broke scenario that's pretty risky.

I'm not trying to be totally negative but if the defense fails & the team crashes, heads are going to roll. The expectations are really too high for a new D-coach & a major change in your defensive system, Dave W. is in way over his head.

Yeah, because DW has basically no experience as a defensive coordinator. He's way over his head and should be fired.

  12. I've been watching a lot of college ball this year and have seen almost every one of those QB's play at least once. Geno is, quite obviously, the top choice for QB's at this point. Barkley has taken a nosedive and did himself a disservice by not declaring last year. The Tylers are decent prospects, but I'm not enamored with either, and EJ is good in spurts. Aaron Murray is okay, but I don't see him turning out as more than a back-up. I was only able to see Dysert vs OSU and was more impressed with him than most everybody aside from Geno. His arm is extremely strong, he places the ball beautifully and he was effective in switching calls numerous times at the line after reading the defense. I agree wholeheartedly with Urban. He will be playing on Sundays. If Geno is gone, I wouldn't complain for a second if he was the pick based on my observations from that game.

I agree that Geno Smith is far and away the best QB prospect, but I also really like Tyler Wilson. He reminds me a lot of Drew Bledsoe (I suppose that comparison can be good or bad depending on your perspective). He's got a cannon for an arm, is pretty accurate, and is a good pocket passer. He's not going to get you a lot of yards with his legs, but with a good offensive line, he could be a really special talent. His "draft stock" will fall because Arkansas just sucks. Their defense is attrocious, their o-line is porous, and hus receivers have stone hands. I think he would be an absolute steal in the mid-latter part of the 1st round.
