  1. Interesting...

Did Washington keep their offense pretty vanilla so our defense could get some work in our base 4-3, or did they do so to give RG-III a slow, simplistic introduction to the offense (and NFL game speed).

Similarly, did we come out throwing because Chan really wanted to test the OT's and WR's, or is it because Washington wanted some exposure to spread formations more frequently utilized by their NFC opponents Philadelphia and Dallas?

    Hmmmmm.

  2. Because brad smith can be 3rd qb, personal protector, gunner, wr, among other things. You keep a guy that can play in that many different places...

Yeah, he can do a lot of things for this team. Question is....can he do those things better than other players who will sucure back-up positions? I would argue that Brooks, Bradham, and Carder more than fill his shoes on special teams. Third QB? Really? I'd almost rather have Michael Jasper under center. We all saw how consistently mediocre he was on kickoff returns last season. Also, I don't think he is a top 7 WR on this team right now.

All these things considered....I don't think Brad Smith makes the 53 man roster.

  3. They did. They ran T. Choice several times into the heart of the defensive line from a couple of yards out and still couldn't get a TD out of it.

    T. Choice demonstrated terrible field vision in this game. Now, he didn't have great run blocking on every play, but there were several plays where he had HUGE holes to run through and just didn't see them. It was very frustrating to watch.

We'll have to see how the rest of pre-season plays out, but if final cuts were tomorrow, Johnny White should make it over Choice IMO.

  4. Certainly, it was an over generalization. In my mind's eye I had a picture of an 18 year old kid just back from a long day at work who comes home and kisses the wife and kids, and sits down to "enjoy a cold beer". This picture was completely contrary to my personal experiences of 18 year olds drinking beer, which usually involves fighting, vomiting, naked women, and jail (not necessarily in that order).

    Ahhh.....to be young again

  5. Have to be careful with blowing up the backfield. Teams will be running draws and screens on them all day. I understand that was what your HUGE risk was referring to but they have to be disciplined.

This risk is reduced when you can consistently get pressure with your front four....which I think the Bills can do. The linebackers/safeties can then sniff-out draws and screens.

  6. Amen!

Preseason games are very ugly, and that's why these games are important for the team to get in sync.

I could care less about the Bills record in preseason. I just want to see that this team is ready come September 9th.

The officiating didn't help the ugliness of this game......just sayin

  7.

    > I'm still scared of our LB's. With the crew they've got fronting them, these guys should be running around tearing **** up and they don't look ready to do that. Barnett is the only one you can trust right now and nobody else is giving us any reason to alter that view. I know they don't have to be great in this particular Front 7, but they DO have to be competent and I'm not convinced that's the case.

    Interesting...

I watched the first half three times very closely, and I thought that the 1st team linebackers looked pretty solid. Overall, they were good in coverage, were very good at diagnosing the blocking schemes and attacking the gaps, and tackled well. Moats, in particular, looked surprisingly good to me. Maybe I missed something you picked up on....what exactly did you see from them that would cause you apprehension about this unit?

By the way....Tank Carder is going to be a really good player IMO. To me, the guy looks like a young Zach Thomas.

  8. I was disappointed in Sheppard from what I saw. I thought he was to be a monster with our new defense as a run stopper.

Not sure what game you were watching, but from where I was sitting (my living room) Sheppard looked extremely solid. He was flying all over the field, seemed quick to diagnose plays, and did a fantastic job plugging gaps in run defense. I didn't notice him in coverage, however, but the skins didn't really throw the ball that much while the 1st unit defense was on the field. Furthermore, I was impressed with all three starting linebackers....especially Moats who was playing some good football (IMO).

What I don't understand is why did Kelsay only stay in for 1 series? It needs to be determined if he's still capable of playing. Merriman was in for most of the first half, despite always playing at a high level. We KNOW Merriman can play. Why bother testing him while risking an injury?

Other notables: Danny Batten had a very nice blitz, Chris White made a great pass defence.

Kelsay played more than 1 series. He alternated with Anderson on the right side and seemed to play well....especially holding up against the run.

Kelsay did nothing. He played the first few snaps and looked as if he wasn't trying. Anderson came in and every play seemed to go away from him, but he looked fast in his pursuit. Merriman was by far the best DE of the night, blowing up several plays and drawing a holding call and nearly got a safety. Kyle Moore also looked great in the second half. Eddins looked ok but barely got any pressure. At this point I don't see how Kelsay makes the team over Kyle Moore.

    Seriously?

  9. Gilmore looked good, but was relatively un-tested. Got plastered by an OT on the Garcon touchdown, but that is to be expected....

Glenn got taken "to the woodshed" by Orakpo on the first play, but seemed to improve as the 1st quarter progressed.

T.J. Graham impessed with his improved route running ability (leading the Bills receivers 3 rec/37 yds), but was severely underthrown on one play in which he had his defender smoked by like 15-20 yards....underthrown by Thigpen and intercepted. Had another good play nullified (a reverse) consequent to a holding penalty from Clowney.

Nigel Bradham got some work with the 2nd and 3rd team at OLB. I wasn't impressed, although he did appear to make an impact in special teams.

Ron Brooks got a really nice interception, as he made a really nice play on an underthrown pass by Kirk Cousins. Solid game overall.

Zebrie Sanders played some at RT in the 4th quarter. I watched him closely, and wasn't completely disappointed. Seemed to hold his own (against 4th stringers)...particularly in pass protection.

Tank Carder played really well (IMO) as he seemed to be very active at ILB with the 2nd and 3rd team. He had one 15 yard face-masking penalty, but overall, I was really impressed with his play. Seems to be very quick getting from sideline to sideline and is a good hitter/tackler.

Mark Asper seemed pretty weak in his time at LG.

Potter was the MVP of the rookie class as he booted all three kickoffs through the endzone for a touchback. Two of them I think (but could be mistaken) he kicked right through the up-rights and into the stands.

  10. Why did Mario Williams n ot play today? ANd where was Anderson, our other pass rusher? Are they injured?

Our vaunted defense sucked. Allowing RG!!! to run up and down the field scoring at will. I thought our defense supposeadly had improved.

ANd where was Fred Jackson? No running game excpet for Choice? He sucked. 5 attempts at going over the goal line at one and goal.

And he could not do ****.Just get rid of his ass.He sucks. And Lindell missing a field goal! What is with this team? Scary! I better start drinking

  11. Don't count Roosevelt out; I hear he's been killing it in camp.

Yeah, I just don't see it happening. I hear he's been catching everything, but we already have similar receivers in Jones and Graham. I suspect he will lose out to bigger guys like Hagan (who also has been killin it at camp) and Easley. Love Rosey, but I fear his time in Buffalo is coming near an end.

  12. I get the "it couldn't hurt" sentiment, but I don't know that I prefer him to any of the WR's that are likely to make the final roster. Johnson, Nelson, Jones, Graham, Hagan, Easley. If the Bills keep 6 WR's (which I think they will)....I don't see Plax as being an upgrade over any of the guys mentioned.

  13. I've watched the Bachelor, the Bachelorette and about 5,000 Lifetime movies with my wife ... it's part of the role of husband.

Yes...afterall, my wife joins me in the living room all day on Sundays even though she is not really into football that much. She also "understands" that I need to watch every single Syracuse basketball game. I think I owe it to her to watch a few "fem" shows such as The Biggest Loser and Real Houswives of New Jersey. Part of the deal....

  14. I'm wondering what happened to Nigel Bradham. Saw he was getting 1st team rep's along with Morrison/Moats at SOLB. The first "official" depth chart had Nigel listed as back-up to Barnett at the WOLB. Haven't heard much about the kid since the 1st couple days of camp. Anybody heard/seen anything from him? I really like his nastiness, and I hope he gets his chance to shine on the football field. He'll be a ST demon for sure.

  15. Game #1 Buffalo Bills at Jets

I wonder if Rex Ryan saw this?

I gotta tell you, I don't like the idea of a quarterback controversy at the start of a season," Obama said

President Obama just picked up a few votes in Buffalo, that's for sure. :flirt:

From a football standpoint...is there anything wrong with what he said? Is it ever a good thing for a football team to enter the season with a quarterback controversy? How this can be construed as political I will never understand.

  16. Yes, I know it would mean putting Brooks through waivers but I kept looking at the DB's and based on what we have heard so far it would appear he is the odd man out. And, like many other Bills' cuts this year there is a good chance someone else would pick him up. I just don't see them cutting Leodis and so it comes down to how many DB's we keep.

Ron Brooks has too much value as a gunner on the punt coverage team to be placed on the practice squad, although, as previously noted he will NEVER clear waivers. Essentially, having Brooks makes Ruvell Martin expendable....freeing up another spot for a WR (Perhaps Aiken or Clowney), John Potter, or perhaps Dorin Dickerson

    just a motivating tool. fluff.

Morrison haters beware. he played little last year and hardly any tape on him. Because they decided to break Kelvin in for the future.

This guy Kirk has been a starter as long as he played till he got here. And i dont think he missed any games.

But i do hope that Bradham develops quickly enough to get on the field and have an IMPACT this season.

Scott is a LB playing a hybrid role as folks mentioned. we have alot of linebacker packages and versatilty to cope with most offenses. Both Barnett or Morrison can move to the middle and or qb the defense for Wannstadt if Shepp comes out.

Morrison was BY FAR the most effective playing OLB in the 4-3. Look at his tackle #'s playing for the Raiders from 05-09 116, 127, 120, 135, & 133. He's back playing at his position of strength. We'll see if he still has some gas left in the tank.
