  1. Do you watch football? I mean how can you pin a teams record on just the QB? That is just absurd...

Let me ask you this...do you think Drew Brees is a top QB? What was his record last year? Case closed...

FYI: Our D (Greer in one game and Mithchell in another), and ST gave Trent 3 of his wins last year and were factors in others...Cutler didnt get any such help...

So now Drew Brees is also not a top QB?

And you ask "do you watch football"??

Wow. This is AWESOME stuff!!! Has this place always been like this?

  2. LOL! So says the guy who claims that no one having seen Lynch drink is moot, because, well, he was obviously impaired and somehow got that way. You don't need no stinkin' evidence, just what you believe! Then you ignore that the actual videotape footage showed the distractions that were mentioned and how car proceeded after hitting the vic as if nothing ever happened. I guess that was pure luck, right? And Lynch obviously knew the cops were at his house to nail him for hit and run, yet no calls or messages to his agent, lawyer, mother, etc. to ask for advice for hours. Again pure luck.

Are you stupid, a troll, or just so disillusioned after 9 years of missing the playoffs that you're become stupid and troll-like? Because if it's the latter, it's time to find a new team. If it's the former like I suspect...

Maybe if I say it a different way, you will understand. The DA could bring 100 people to declare that they saw him drinking that night, but that is NOT evidence of DUI. If he was not obvioulsy impaired to these these witnesses, then this info is useless for prosecution. Thus, moot. Without a timely blood sample, the DA knows he cannot win a felony hit and run in this case.

Also, how does the fellow bar patron "witness" imbibement of alcohol by a guy who sneaks booze into bars and mixes it with his soda?

And you still cannot articulate exactly what Lynch was protecting himself from if he did not commit a crime. Also, why didn't his passengers cooperate? They had no liability in this case. Why didn't they come forward and simply tell the cops: he wasn't drinking, he didn't see second, obese, slow moving lady in the path of his car in the middle of the street? Why was everyone refusing to cooperate in a simple accident investigation? Tell me.

Yep, I must be "stupid" for pointing this stuff out. Or even questioning the character of such a legendary Buffalo Bill like...........Marshawn Lynch.

But if you want to go on thinking that this young guy was not drinking (at all!) with his new friends showing them a night on the town, then go right on. In fact you probably don't think Lynch was smoking that weed in that car in Cali. Wait...aren't you the guy who demanded that those cops test to see if was weed and then to "check it for DNA"?

Funniest thing I read all year!

  3. If the DA can't make the case of DUI, why are you? Why can't you and others like you admit that you're just mad that Lynch did what his lawyer told him to do, and kept quiet? There is no other explanation for you irrationally ignoring the evidence that supports his contention of not knowing he hit her. You have NOTHING except for the silly "he brought his own alcohol into bars in the past" and "he didn't come forward fast enough." Please.

And since you're asking me what I would do if someone walked in my path, I sure as hell would slow down and make an attempt to avoid hitting them, not honk my horn and flash my lights. I also certainly wouldn't have admitted to drinking the night before. If that makes me a bad person, so be it. It's called self-preservation and something most people would do, despite what they claim on a message board or when they're not the ones affected. I have no respect for Stallworth for admitting what he did. Obviously he's your hero.

What Stallworth has admitted to (drinking the night before and seeing the pedestrian but not slowing down) is enough to hang him not only legally, but with the Commish. Lynch's traffic incident is no worse than Stallworth being in the drug program, because both would have needed to be "talked to" by the Commish. Now Lynch has a gun charge and Stallworth killed someone, and both came clean immediately in these latest incidents because they were caught dead-to-rights. But in Lynch's case, no one died, or was even close to dying. So who should get a suspension, and for how long?

Because I am free to make conclusions that the DA can't, genius.

You have no respect for Stallworth admitting what he did? Yet you respect an "innocent" Lynch for refusing to cooperate with a simple investigation? Nice!!

Anyway, Lynch didn't contact his lawyer for several hours after he saw the cops (for some goddawn reason) towing away his SUV out of his driveway. When the cops knock on your door, and you have no idea why, nor do you recall hitting anyone with your SUV at 3 AM after a night of bar-hopping, do you come out and say "hey, why are you impounding my car?" or do you stay inside for a few hours and then contact your lawyer? He knew what was going on.

If he had done nothing wrong, and there was no evidence to the contrary, why would his lawyer tell him not to cooperate in any way? How could he "innocently" incriminate himself? What "evidence" could he have inadvertantly provided for the cops if there is none?

Unlike you, I don't need to believe this guy is an unfortunate victim of coast to coast overzealous police activity while he's "livin' the life". He's an entertainer and if he entertains me on Sunday afternoon, that's enough for me. I don't have to completely suspend disbelief to make the whole fan thing work me.

    You're in too deep, bro.

And by the way, when I roll into a neighborhood that is not my own and I got the car with no tags, and I'm smokin a coupla bones---that gun is comin' out!

  4. One of the rare instances in which I tend to disagree with you bt.

Imo, fans are seduced bt the fact that Cutler has a very strong arm. After watching RJ and Losman, this facet of quarterback play means less and less to me. Cutler has great fantasy football numbers as well, but his w/l record is not so great, and he played on a good team with a superb coach.

I guess what threw me was the comparison to Kelly. A case could be made that Kelly played his entire career on an "inept franchise." After all the injuries, Kelly had less tools than Cutler, but Kelly was a winner.

I think that what turned me off to Cutler the most was his comment about having a better arm than Elway. Even if it were true (and perhaps he does have a stronger arm wrt 1 or 2 types of throws), it was so over the top idiotic that it stunned me. Maybe Cutler has a longer deep out (not so sure), but Elway threw 50 yard passes accross the field with no air under the ball, and on the run to boot. He was a baseball center fielder, and could throw 40 yard fastballs with ease.

Either way, it showed me that Cutler was either crazy or very dumb. It would be like A-Roid telling us that he is stronger than Mickey Mantle, a New York legend and hero. If he goes to the jests, I will be less worried than many posters. They are snakebitten and their coach, while he sounds like a cool guy, hasn't proven a damn thing.

In summary, I don't blame the coach for trying to get rid of him. I'm not all that impressed either.

This is silly. These arguments are getting dumber and dumber.

RJ and Losman would have to combine their best seasons to have a better output than Cutler last year. The guy had NO defense--they gave up 6000 yards and 448 points!! He put up big numbers by throwing the ball---that's what he's paid to do! Who would knock a guy for last season? The same guys on this site who would be RAVING if JP or Edwards ever produced like this.

You want "stunning"? How about your claim that Kelly played with less "tools" than Cutler did last year? Come on---how can a Bills fan much such a careless statement?

McDaniels is a boob----like every other BB exPat to leave the nest (Romeo, Weis, Mangina.....). It is mind-blowing that Bowen paid $15 million to fire Shanahan so he could pick up this kid.

  5. Cutler had much better talent around him. He has a great #1, a legit #2, and a very good pass catching TE. Not to mention his numbers are extremely inflated since he throws the ball near 40 times a game.

Would anyone argue that the Broncos would have won more games if they went more with their talentless running game. What are "inflated numbers"? I see that a lot on this board. You make it sound like a deficit. I would have enjoyed a few seasons of "inflated" QB "numbers" on this team the past 5 years or so. Wouldn't you?

  6. So we suspect Lynch was DUI because...he brought his own alcohol into bars in the past and he refused to make the police's case for them? LOL, got it! Talk about moot points. Fortunately our legal system doesn't take such dreck into account and requires evidence like people seeing him drinking right before the accident, or the videotape of the incident showing him slowing down or hastily leaving because he realized he hit someone, or calling someone right after it happened to get advice on what to do next.

I suggest you accept the fact that the DA could find NOTHING to suggest he was even drinking that night and that it was "just a (not so) terrible accident."

Just because you don't understand it, or refuse to accept it, doesn't mean it makes no sense. But to clarify it for you, since he was in the substance abuse program, obviously Goodell "talked to him" about being a good representative for the NFL, kind of like he would have done with Lynch after last year's traffic ticket. And killing someone, even if it's "a terrible accident" (the hypocrisy of this statement is too rich!) is still a black mark on the league. But hey, good on Stallworth for admitting he killed the person, was drinking until midnight, and honked his horn to get the victim to move out of his way. :wallbash:

Again, a DA cannot make a case of DUI if he cannot prove the guy was drunk. Just because he not seen stumbling out of a bar does not mean he wasn't impaired. And of course a guy who is guilty of a crime is not going to "make the police's case for them"!! Thanks for restating my point.

An innocent guy with nothing to hide doesn't need to hinder or "not help" the DA make a case against him. Get it?

As for the terrible accident--if someone walks in your path and you hit them and kill them (through no fault of your own) would you expect to be punished, by anyone, just because you had a past history of substance abuse? Of course not, and neither does our legal system, nor does the Commish, I bet.

I'm also betting that the Commish is more skeptical of Lynch's story than a "my guy can do no wrong" homer such as those found here.

  7. It has been amusing but like anything else it's becoming repetitive. Mr. Weo is like alot of us and likes to argue. I don't believe for a second he actually believes Martz would work in Buffalo. While his comparison to Shanahan was cute, he just brings up one off topic point after another. Bottom line is that Martz hasn't seen consistent success since 01. He has been given multiple chances since then and failed. In addition to failing since 01 he has burned bridge after bridge with his poor attitude. Those juggernaut Ram teams were loaded with talent. Every star member of the old Rams team has had big seasons without Martz, unfortunately Martz hasn't had one without them.

Sure we all like to argue. One off topic after another? If you say so!

He's been given multiple chances and failed?? Are there two worse teams he could have been summoned to? He was brought to those teams to do exactly as he was asked to---and did. He vastly improved those offenses with the few tools he was given. If none of you can acknowledge that chicken soup out of chicken sh**t in Detroit and SF, than I won't push further. The facts are as they are. I can't argue with your feelings or "observations".

If you are going to argue that DJ has not "been given multiples chances...and failed" and that the duo of DJ and Schonert are exactly what this team needs, than....bless you, I guess.

  8. Better yet, let's trade a first for Boldin and give him a ton of money just to show Hardy how to be a ahole and interfere with your OC during the most important drive in the franchise's history, and then leave without celebrating afterwards. And Boldin won't have to teach Hardy about missing games during the season.

Boldin won't ever be cited for "leaving without celebrating" in Buffalo.

Boldin's face was destroyed during the season. He had reconstructive surgery and hustled back to help out his team, missing only 2 games.

TO, on the other hand, faked a suicide attempt.

    Good point, bro.

  9. Because come November in Buffalo, Edwards turns into a glove wearing mary, interception throwing machine.

You mean like in Denver, the coldest game they played this year?

Actually, after his disastrous 1st Q in Cleveland (which set them back a whopping 6 points), TE had zero ints the rest of the season (16 Qs).

Why do you keep repeating the same false knocks on the guy? It's so lazy and lame. Can't you come up with a criticism based in fact?

  10. T.O. is not "mentoring" anyone, you used that word not me. It was clear from the interview Hardy doesn't need(or want) a mentor, hes needs skilled people around him to show him how to be an NFL receiver. Evans and T.O are two of the best receivers in the league.

If I am a young receiver in the league, I am soaking up everything T.O. says and does that pertains to the football field. Regardless of his off the field antics(which I disapprove of just as much as anyone here), he is an all-time great and has model work ethic and preparation.

Yes, let's hope that Hardy "soaks up" all that "work ethic" that "pertains to the football field", like cussing out your QB, your OC and your HC right there on the field when you don't get your touches. Or after you drop more balls than any WR in the league--you can just scream at everyone else.

Hey, Hardy can bring his gun to the sidelines and show TO what he can do in such situations!

  11. Well since he had a history of bringing his own alcohol into bars, surely the DA, in his exhaustive one month search for the truth before agreeing to a traffic ticket, would have uncovered someone, ANYONE, who actually saw him drinking that night, don't you think? Someone like a bartender, waitress, patron, valet, street bum? Wait let me guess: everyone was covering for him.

Lynch did what his lawyer instructed him to do (i.e. keep quiet and let the cops make their case for themselves), just like that video someone posted and I told you to watch said one should do whether he/she is innocent or guilty. But even if he had come clean in the beginning and gotten the traffic ticket, you and others would have obviously still claimed that he accepted the plea deal to avoid having the truth come out. Nothing less than a "I was drunk, knew I hit her, and ran because I was scared" would have sufficed for you and you know it.

I never said anything about him being guilty of DUI. But in any case, a person died because of him, and he'll still likely get charged with something more than a traffic ticket. In addition, since he's in the NFL's drug program, the Commish is well within his right to suspend him for at least a few games, right?

Drinking in a bar is not illegal. Nor is drinking in a bar and driving home. So finding witnesses to his drinking is useless. He can only be charged with DWI if you are caught DWI and fail a field sobriety test and/or have a BAL greater than 0.08. Since Lynch took off after he hit the woman, there was no test of any kind. Your point is moot.

If he broke no law, he will not be charged. The Commish will not suspend him if this turns out to be a terrible accident--just because he's in the NFLs drug program. That makes no sense at all.

  12. And the reason for a lot of the push back is that not only was this discussed, but I think the general concensus was that trading Edwards alone, not to mention sending him with a bunch of draft picks for Cutler is a STUPID IDEA!!! For proof, perhaps one should look at the actual game tape of how the two performed against each other in the game last year, particularly in the Fourth Quarter. Cutler hasn't done any more or less in his time in Denver. Why the *&^$ does everyone think he's so great? He couldn't win one game over the last six for his team last year to get them into the playoffs, finishing tied with SD at 8-8 in the AFC West last year, which is the weakest division in football. I wish people would stop hoping that we make trades for players we think are all that but are really just mediocre and overrated.

I think we should keep Trent, too at this point, but come on---Culter has a better performance so far. You really can't argue that Trent and Cutler had, "more or less" similar seasons in 2008. True, the Broncos (who actually won 2 of their last 6 games, not zero) melted down at the end of the season, but most would argue that the defense was the weakest link on that team, no?

  13. As I said, thanks for stopping by, Mr. LaMont, but we're not currently in a position to hire your client.

And FWIW, because I don't go by "what others say," here are some of my observations:

    http://www.stadiumwall.com/index.php?showtopic=50529

    http://www.stadiumwall.com/index.php?showtopic=53376

    http://www.twobillsdrive.com/articles/game...me_day_preview/

That's nice. Three "articles" documenting your longstanding dislike of Martz.

In actuality, the first describes nicely the awful offense that Martz inherited his first year with the Lions.

The second accurately predicts that both Kitna and the Lions will have their first 4000 yard passing season under Martz (why not congradulate him?), throws in the gratuitous "if he doesn't get killed"-type comment (Kitna somehow survived to go on to a consecutive 4000+ season), that Martz and Kitna were doing this with 2 1st round WR busts on the roster and that Martz cobbled together an effective receiver corps with old vets and journeymen. You also documented, but didn't grasp the significance of, the fact that K Jones was not going to be a force on this offense.

The third accurately desribes the mess that Martz inherited in SF--an offense absolutely bereft in talent at WR, o-line and QB. How he "brought in" JTO (as if he was benching Montana or Young to make room) and how he subsequently replaced him with Hill. Guess there were no "old tricks" as Gore was getting his touches, eh?

If you take away the snide editorial comments and reread those articles, you might see that Martz was, in both Detroit and SF, making do with bad situations and was able to achieve results that no one prior to his arrival could for at least several years and, in the case of the Lions, couldn't continue after he left.

What you fail to mention is that Martz beat Juaron in both of those regular season games, despite having significantly inferior talent.

  14. Please. Lynch was as close to this as Hardy was to shooting his father.

Really? Seeing as he claims he never knew he hit her, then it is pure luck for both he and his victim that she fell on her generous hip instead of her head. People can suffer life threatening injuries from a standing fall. Lynch's SUV didn't chose how it hit her and how she impacted with the ground.

Also, as has been pointed out, one can credibly assume he was DUI, (he was barhopping--he had been known to clandestinely drink smuggled-in liquor, he never called the police, he never came out of his house the next day as the cops came knocking----even as they were taking away his vehicle, he offered no cooperation with the police until a grand jury was convened), as his behavior after the event is not consistent with someone who was involved in a simple, unavoidable, innocent accident.

Anyway, won't you first stone casters (obviously none of you fellas has ever gotten behind the wheel after more than a few) feel at least a little silly if it turns out that Stallworth was under the influence of no substances? Maybe just a little?

  15. By "you people" are you referring to all of the posters who disagree with you, or are you referring to the entire NFL and college ranks that feel Martz is not good enough for a job? You are entitled to your own opinion on Martz and the rest of us are entitled to ours, but you still haven't mentioned how you think this offense would work in the Buffalo winds. Wasn't that the point of this foolish thread in the first place?

You rejected Martz based on your "own observations"? Geez, why didn't you say that right up front? Then I wouldn't have brought out the facts documenting his success in the NFL. I would have accepted that you don't like him based on "observations" (whatever they were) and realized that further argument was a waste of time.

    Pilepusher,

The point of this foolish thread was why pick up a guy like TO and not bring in someone who is a passing offense speacialist, in particular, Martz. It was not about "Buffalo winds". (WTF???)

Martz-directed offenses won on the road in late October through December against the Giants, Jets, Bears, Pitt, and Bills.

And remind me, how have offenses of Gilbride, Fairchild and Schonert "worked in the Buffalo winds"?

Shanahan doesn't have a job either, yet Jauron is still our HC. What's your point? That GMs all know what they doing when it comes to picking a coaching staff?? Who's that guy Al Davis re-signed as HC?

Look at Martz's last team. They fired their HC midseason and replaced him with a guy who for years has been on every team with a vacnacy's short list and was always passed over for someone else---and who promptly showed his team what he was all about by dropping his pants at halftime and subsequently firing Martz. Yup. That team is going places.

  16. so Peters is in the prime of his career at 27 and due to get paid $3.5 mil

you want to sign Pace, who is over 30 and been injured the last 3 years to $5 mil / yr (more than Peters) so we can have another overpaid underperforming player on the OL.

just pay Peters as the elite OT that he is.

The Bills will just waste whatever picks they get from a trade anyway.

Just asking, but how do we know that Peters is an "elite OT"? He's played two full seasons at the position. He appeared to play well in 07 and not so well in '08.

With most other positions, it is more easy to quantify performance. Is t the "Pro Bowl" designations? Is it one of those situations where, since we can't clearly quantify performance here, we are simply saying he's one of the best because others have said so--and we don't have any other "elite" players on the team?

If we look at his performance last year (11.5 sacks given up) and conclude that he is one of the best at his position, i.e. that's as good as it gets, is it really worth 11+ million a year to get that kind of performance, at best, year after year?

Wasn't this guy an undrafted morbidly obese TE when we found him and simply made him an OT? Is it impossible that we couldn't do the same with another morbidly obese lineman already on the team, or in the draft.

    Just asking.

  17. Then who do you have taking Fred Jackson's 130 carries from last year? None of Faulk's backups ran the ball more than 78 times in a season during the 1999-2001 time period. Lynch also didn't have the Greatest Show on Turf taking DBs off the line of scrimmage, ramping up his ypc average.

And Lynch isn't a Hall of Famer. Faulk was pushing that status before he left Indy.

The Rams ran on 43.4 percent of their total plays in 1999, 37.8 in 2000, 41.3 in 2001. By the time Martz coached his final full season in St. Loo in 2003, just 38 out of every 100 plays were runs. And for the most part, the Rams were a decent team while he was there, so some of those were undoubtedly to burn clock at the end of wins. Take that away, and ...

    Lions 2006: 304 of 963, 31.6 % (down from 404 of 955, 42.3 % the year before he got there)

    Lions 2007: 324 of 965, 33.6 %

To compare, the Bills ran 45.9 percent of the time last year, down from 48.7 the year before.

    "RB neglecting"? Guilty as charged.

So now Faulk is underutilized AND his numbers are inflated? Look, the point being argued here is that Martz got the reputation of "neglecting the RB"---specifically Faulk--and that this is ridiculous and demonstrably false.

Faulk would have been a HOFer in Indy? Maybe, but it was his 3 straight seasons of over 2100 yards from scrimmage in SL that sealed it for him. The irony is that he was utilized so much, that he career was likely shortened by Martz's offense. After 2001, it was a slow steady decline as injuries affected his utility.

Martz's last full season was 2004. They ran 38% of the time. In '06, when "Mike the Neglector" was long gone?--39.8% runs. In '07---39.3%. So was the ghost of Martz still running the offense in SL for years after he was gone? Are you really arguing over 38 v. 39%?

In Detroit, Martz looked down the bench and saw 1st round bust Kevin Jones and Arlen Harris and decided to go with Kitna. What was he supposed to do?? The defense was absolutely awful and the only chance to put points on the board was to keep his offense on the field--that meant passing the ball. They were were 5-11 before he got there, 7-9 when he left and they famously haven't won a game since (and when whoever was OC this past season restored a "proper" balance of 38.5% runs, the offense went straight into the tank--going from 21.6 PPG to 16.7).

In SF? Well, you will no doubt be surprised to learn that Martz actually ran the ball 41% of the time. They scored more PPG than the Bills. He did this with a staff of awful QBs and an platoon of has beens and nobody WRs. And he got fired because Singletary wants to build his offense around the running game!! Ladies and gentlemen your 2006 49ers!

And what of the Cards? Seems Warner's current team "neglected the RB" to the tune of 34% run plays. Is Mike Martz the OC of the Cards also?? Or is yet ANOTHER OC making the best and most obvious use of Warner and 3 top WRs?

"The Rams were a decent team while he was there." Well. I guess you get credit for spotting that.

Martz has dramatically improved every offense he has coached. SL went from 24th to 1st. Detroit 28th to 16th. SF 32 to 22nd. But he's "difficult". Yet we are all claiming our worries are over here in Buffalo because we just picked an aging WR great who is internationally known as the most difficult teammate in professional sports.

And as for this nonsense that Martz gets QBs "killed". While in SL, his QB sack #s were 33, 44, 40, 46, 43, 50. After he left...............46, 49, 48!! Was it the ghost of Mike Martz, AGAIN, haunting a past team??? How about the 49ers? Before Martz: 55 sacks. With Martz.........55! Maybe the 49ers were getting READY for Martz's QB-killing offense a year before he got there! And as has already been pointed out, Warner took more sacks in the 5 years after he left SL than he did in SL. On the Giants, he took 39 sacks in 10 games! Was Martz stalking him on the sidelines?? Kitna was on pace to get another 60 sacks this past season when he was injured (note, he was not injured or "killed" when under Martzs brutal regime).

You people simply reject a guy like Martz out of hand based on what others say, yet you welcome TO and disregard the same.

    Go figure.

  18. Boldin will require a 1st rounder, if not more, and $9M/year with a $25M signing bonus, if not more. Good luck with that!

Would you rather blow 6.5 mil on one year with an aging TO or pay big bucks to sign one of the top WRs in the game (a young guy entering his prime) for a long term.

Think of it another way......Boldin would be cheaper than Peters and infinitely more valuable to the offense.

  19. I just want to see him get some work in outside while we still have winter weather. There is no way to replicate that in OTAs or TC. He needs to thrive in the elements like Favre did, not just survive them.

Who are the other Qbs who thrive "like Favre" in the cold?

  20. Nothing is more meaningless than the average fan's evaluation of NFL line play.

How did he get to the Pro Bowl last year?

You don't think it was Buffalo Bills fans stuffing ballot boxes on his behalf last year do you?

I'll take the fact that the coaches and players voted him to two Pro Bowls over any opinion on this board.

How did he get in? Well, it wasn't because he was one of the top 2 or 3 LT's in the AFC. Do you really think it was??

You mean like Favre was a Pro Bowler? Do you think the Jets fans voted him in? The Packers fans?? No, it was the players.

They say that another suspect serial Pro Bowler, Rueben Brown, was elected by players because he had a huge, awesome barbecue party for players every year.

  21. Just saying, but Bruce Smith wandered into Buffalo, New York and weighed 300+ lbs. and didn't dedicate himself until he caught a whiff of how difficult the NFL really was, at his position. It is easy to paint this young man with the bust label, however, we all can recall how immature we were at 22 years of age. God knows, I wouldn't have a clue how I'd have responded in retrospect, and anyone who says that they are positive about the results they would have produced is just kidding themselves. He is, undoubtedly, a talent, we will see! I'm rooting for the kid personally.....

These "do you remember how immature you were at 22" lines are very tired. Why is it that all the other 20, 21, 22 year olds were able to get their shiiiit together and prepare for the combine and/or their pro days? This guy may be too stupid to even be an NFL lineman.

Oh, wait---maybe for DJ, he will "snap into shape", because you know how the fellas like to work hard for the ol' ball coach.
