Actually Walt Corey was a very good coordinator. The problem was that he asked a guy that was similar to John Randle to play like Ted Washington. I think Jeff Wright was a lot more talented than big mouth Smerlas, but they had a completely different skill set. To this day, Wright's immense talent is unappreciated, as he passed under the radar, playing out of position.
If we had a Ted Washington back then, we would have won at least 3 superbowls and maybe gone to more than 4
???
Come on.

I actually know what you are talking about.
Of course, there isn't a perfect statistical equation or approach. It is a work-in-progress. Yes, an aggregator of opinions is all the information that I can use; however, my prediction of where people will fall in the draft can be statistically measured off of the aggregate opinions. It doesn't make my predictions more accurate, but it will give some insight into the accuracy of the pro and media people's thoughts.
Again, it is a school project. There are many gaping holes, but these holes are accounted for in my paper.
That's pretty much it.
Performing a statistical analysis on opinions and guesses of others is of dubious relevance. It certainly can't give us any power to better predict the pick--it only addresses who others think we (and other teams) will pick. If every published mock was in identical agreement, it still be a collection of meaningless predictions.

Listening to Sirius broadcasting from the Owner's meetings last night, they were interviewing Buddy Nix and asking him about potential changes to the overtime rules.
In trying to state that it works both ways, the current system may burn you one week, but provide you an advantage the next, Buddy said: "It's just a matter of whose dog's gittin' kicked..."
I love this guy!
So does that mean he is against the change? For it?
I think everyone pretty much already understood the concept that Buddy was articulating, but it doesn't move the argument.

With the incompetent line playing in front of him you are lucky it wasn't 4th and 6th. The defense was there to owerwhelm him before he even got the handoff. A fourth and 2 situation under those lucidcrous conditions is quite an achievement.
Right on! He deserves a renegotiated contract.

Noll got fired?...thought he retired....Lombardi got fired?...thought he retired...Landry got fired? though he retired....ridiculous...and Siefert had Joe Montana before Steve Young...Young was better than Montana??...hmmmmm....And Belichick???...Bledsoe was so bad that he had the Pats ranked number one in Passing offense...and they were 22nd when Brady came in...
This post is LAME...unresearched and just spouted out like they know something
Landry was fired, chief. Do research.

If he slips to 41. Wouldnt that send a message? I would like at least 2 characterisitics. Heck I'm a fierce competitor but I cant get the ball downfield. I would like a competitive QB with a better than average arm. And dont quote me passer ratings. YAC and feeble teams = good passer ratings No Tearbow
Feeble teams?

Led the league in sacks both years, threw more INTs than TDs both years (but only hit 20 TDs once, for the record), fumbled 28 times, and went a combined 10-22.
But hey, at least it wasn't boring.
It would be more accurate to say the Lions (an awful team) lead the League in sacks those years. Prior to that, he had more than 35 once. In fact, 1/3 of his career sacks came in those two years.
He's a little sloppy with the ball but it is interesting to hear people on this board knock the guy when many were screaming throughout the season for any of our QBs to just throw the ball down field, INTs be damned. He takes a beating and he plays in pain, unlike our QBs for the past few years.
Maybe he's not the guy, but we don't have a viable model for developing a starting QB and we haven't for years. Sure, let's draft another QB. Who's the QB mentor here? Is Fitz helping TE with his problems? Will TE tutor Brohm? Or Brohm the draftee?
Yet everyone is scratching their heads over why our QB situation perennially sucks.

Bahahahaha! You never claimed I had never heard of JP before the Bills drafted him? What was that about altering history?
I claimed that you never saw him play---your new "I saw him late one nite on ESPN2" lame claim not withstanding. You made your BLESTO reference many times.
As for being a nobody at a crappy program, despite this, obviously people (well, again, most of them) still managed to find out who JP was. Sure he wasn't at USC, surrounded by top talent and riding their coattails. If he were, he'd probably also have been a top-10 pick himself. But being the talent evaluator you are, you knew immediately after the Bills drafted him that he'd suck, based on never having heard of him, much less seen him play. While you heard about and saw a lot of Leinart, "dropped your seed" prior to the 2005 draft hoping the Bills would draft him, have watched him be no less of a bust than JP, and you still think he's anything but?Awesome!
Take a look at last season, doc (his 4th in the NFL, all in the same system). He threw for 0 TD's and 3 INT's, and in his only start, he lost to the Titans, snapping a Cardinals 5-game winning streak. And in that game, he had Fitz, Boldin, Breaston, and Doucet as receivers, yet his top receiver (Boldin) caught 5 passes for 53 yards while Fitz caught 4 passes for 34 yards. Hmmmmm. I guess Fitz and Boldin were"irrelevant on the field" for that game. And I'm sure losing Boldin won't make a difference. Someone has to catch those passes.
There's a reason few people are picking the Cards to do much next year. And beating out Anderson doesn't mean he's still not a bust.
I thought Leinart would be a good draft because I saw him play many times---not because I read somewhere that he was as good as Big Ben, Rivers and Manning. It was an opinion I formed myself. You went with another way. I was correct on JP. You cannot argue otherwise. I may be wrong on Leinart, but since I don't know what he can do at this point as he hasn't been the regular starter in two years, the evidence of him being a bust is not yet as overwhelming as it was (early on) for JPL.
If he can't beat out Anderson, he's done. And nice to see to see you already backpedalling with "And beating out Anderson doesn't mean he's still not a bust."
-
Look doc, we went over that "since I, Mr. WEO, had never heard of JPL before the Bills drafted him, no one else possibly could have!" laugher. Again, just because you are ignorant, don't project your lack of knowledge onto others. JP was considered one of the top-5 QB's heading into the 2004 draft, and as I told you, was rated the top QB prior to the 2003 season by BLESTO, which is how I first heard about him. I'll make the assumption (against my better judgment) that even you know who the top-5 QB's in this draft are, and it doesn't even approach that 2004 draft.
And yes, JP was a bust. But "huge" is reserved for a guy like Leinart, who was (over)hyped coming out of college, taken 10th overall and given a 6-year $51M contract and who in 4 years, 29 games, and 16 starts, has compiled a 57.1 completion percentage, 14 TD's and 20 INT's (essentially a no year non-wonder). This despite 2 All-Pro WR's and some pretty good 3rd WR's (so yes, the loss of Boldin certainly won't help him much). Not the 22nd overall with a contract roughly half that amount.
And if Leinart hasn't outplayed Anderson you'll call him a bust? Wow, that's really setting the bar high! But who are you kidding? We all know that you won't call him a bust period, because you've entrenched yourself with him. It will be a "the situation changed" or some such excuse.
Look, what can I say? Everyone knew who the top QBs coming out in 2004 were--perhaps my statement at the time was a bit hyperbolic (I had never seen the guy play and I am certain you never had either--he wasn't on my radar as a 1st round pick), but JPL didn't belong in that list. He was a nobody at a crappy program. BLESTO shmesto---you've gone on and on about that rating for years---I never claimed you never heard of him.
Even if he was accepted universally as a guy who could be mentioned in the same paragraph as Manning, Big Ben and Rivers, he had bust written all over him---and it was apparent as soon as he was handed the starting job his second year. You never could figure this out for years, even as he murdered his own "comeback" in '08. You had the same problem letting go of RJ.
So, to summarize your argument: coming out of college, JPL was the 5th best QB in the country (out of Conf USA TULANE!)--on par with the three QBs listed above...and after passing for 10,700 yards, 99 TDs and going 37-2 in the Pac 10 and winning a national title Leinart was "overhyped" coming out of college???
Awesome!
Also, he has been stuck behind certain HOFer Warner for the past 2 years---that's his fault too, I guess. If the Bills had picked up a guy like Warner after JPL's first two years, before heading to the bench for the next few years, JP's numbers would look like this: 1392 yards, 49.6%, 8 TDs and 9 ints, 1-7 record. You would not have called him a bust at that point (hell, you didn't call him one when he took a job in the UFL!).
Unlike you, I will not try to alter history--that's Doc's bag. If Leinart can't best Anderson--he's a bust. Straight up.
-
I never claimed I was infallible (ahem) when judging players. Especially QB's, who even pros can't evaluate correctly. I also never made the silly statement that because I didn't know who a player was before the Bills drafted him, he would be a bust. That's your schtick. But I'd take JPL's 2006 season over anything Edwards, Holcomb, and especially Leinart (who you "dropped your seed" over back in the 2005 draft) have done these past 5 years.
My statement may have seemed silly (no sillier than you and others pretending you actually saw JPL play in college), but it proved prescient---his awe inspiring "2006 season" included.
I don't recall you labelling JP a bust after he missed his first season due to injury. Nor did you claim the same after he was twice benched for poor play for long stretches in his next year. Nor did you come to this conclusion in '08 when he whad a chance to start again and was aweful. In fact, to this day, you have yet to acknowledge the obvious--that he was a huge first round bust.
Yes, it would be stupid to fault him for not dislodging Warner. I fault him because he's "done nothing yet" in his time in the NFL, when he's had the chance to play. And he's had chances to prove himself. That's the reason the Cards haven't/won't name him the starter before training camp finishes, and instead signed a guy who's proven to be a 1-year wonder for $3.6M/year, to compete with him. And without Boldin, it will only be worse for him.Not quite. Sounds like the aquisition of Anderson ended the QB competition. Leinart is the starter.
http://www.azcentral.com/sports/cardinals/...on-bickley.html
Yup, no Boldin will be a tough obstacle to overcome on a team bereft of remaining WRs.
Look, if Leinart, by the end of the season, hasn't outplayed Anderson then I will declare him a bust. I'm a fair man.
Nice to see you can spot a "one year wonder"---or can you?

There's about 8 QB threads on the front page and you've got to bring your QB stuff into this thread?
You're rapidly approaching crusading status.
Again.
Approaching??
Perhaps you consider his "approach" asymtotic?
-
This means absolutely nothing since each team doctor has different opinions on things. Truth be told, 75-80% of the players in the league wouldn't be playing if it depended on them passing physicals with every team doctor.
Really? That's the truth, huh?
Can you help us out with some reference on that one?
-
Take a look at this list of available QB's, who could be had for less (to be backups) than what they gave DA:
http://www.nfl.com/freeagency#players-tab-...tainer-position
Hmmm... how about every available UFA on the list?
-
Ask and ye shall receive:
Actually I predicted he'd be a bust before he was drafted. So far he's done nothing to prove me wrong. And losing Boldin won't help at all, considering he couldn't do much with him and Fitz.
It's amazing your keen eye couldn't spot the bust that was JPL--he couldn't beat out Holcomb or Edwards.
Anyway, a more accurate description would be "he's done nothing yet." Faulting him because he couldn't dislodge Warner from the starting position is the height of stupidity.
Which brings us to......
It seems to me that if the Cardinals had any belief that he was just a little below Warner's level they would have started him over Warner. The problem is that he isn't. http://www.nfl.com/players/mattleinart/profile?id=LEI453701He should have taken the job from Warner by his second year and definitely by his third to justify his draft position and draft hype. JMO
Are you for real? You think that the Cards were going into each season with some sort of QB competition? Against Kurt Warner? And that if they had ANY belief that Leinart was "below" Warner's level, they should have started him?
Wow, that is certainly an interesting management strategy---starting the inferior QB solely to feel better about picking him in the first round. Maybe someone (not the Doc) should proof your "JMO" first.

On the heels of an impressive workout at Florida's pro day, league sources say that Tim Tebow is among those players who have been invited to New York for the April 22-24 NFL draft.
Todd McShay in an ESPN Insider article;
So does this change Tebow's draft value? Those teams that see Tebow as an eventual starting quarterback are hopeful, but those who rate him as no better than a third- or fourth-round pick did not see enough to change their opinion of him. Tebow showed unexpected athleticism at the combine and eventually could contribute at another position if quarterback doesn't work out, but when grading him strictly as a quarterback, he remains a third-round pick on our board.
Tebow simply has too much developing to do and too many obstacles to overcome to be worth taking any higher.
If Brady Quinn was embarrassed Tebow should be downright ashamed. They'd better put an overnight cot in that room they sent Quinn to.
This is a huge non-story.

The Cards just signed Derek Anderson. Reportedly 2-years and $7.25M.
You concluded Leinart was a bust when he couldn't beat out Kurt Warner for the starting QB spot in AZ, chief.
Now your coming to the conclusion that he's a bust (again?) because they picked up the Browns backup QB?
-
I think that's right. The first clue is that Baltimore only tendered him at the 5th round level, pricing him to move. Also, look at the interest Charlie Whitehurst generated.
But you can apply such concerns to anyone - if Dwan Edwards was so good, why did Baltimore let him hit free agency and Denver and Seattle let him leave without making an offer? Why was Andra Davis released?
Simple. Balt, Denver and Sea don't have Buddyvision.
-
What is the real issue here? The truth comes out in fairly short order. What's the problem? Did anyone change their plans based on their belief that the signing was or was not true?
-
speaking of low expectations....most here concede a very bad year (or two or three) in order to rebuild...thats a pretty effective defense mechanism as well...and if you expect very little in free agency (many here actually argued that free agent signings would be a bad thing) any signing is a reason for celebration. I think the "pessimsts" here actually have higher hopes than the delusional fans but they are cognizant of the fiscal realities of a rw owned team.
Good point.
It's also funny that many of the same who go on and on about how smart Buddy is for NOT signing "superstars" are the same who spilled some seed after the TO signing (and are, amazingly and with no apparent sense of irony, advocating his RESIGNING now!).
OK, maybe I'm not so amazed. Pretty typical stuff.
-
I'm gonna disagree with people that Mark Sanchez is the "face of the jets". Yeah he bought a lot of hype with him. Is that cali pretty boy with potential. Maybe in a few years, but right now the heart of the Jets is a tie between.
1a. Rex Ryan
1b. Darrelle Revis
Jets fans wouldn't recognize Revis if he walked past them on the street with a "Revis" jersey on. That sort of disqualifies him.
-
Yeah, I get this. But it's one thing to have good mechanics without pads and no one chasing you. It's another to do in game situations.
I love everything about Tebow and had a borderline man crush on him in college. I hope he can make it in the league. But I have a lot of doubts and think it will be a very risky move for a team liek the Bills to chance it.
That said, if Gailey and Nix give him their blessing, I'll hope for the best. And I know I'll never root harder for a Bill to make it.
Well, he has "done it" in game situations, you know. He did throw a lot of TD passes. He played in a decent division, not Conf USA. Plenty of good defenses had their shots at him. He takes a lot of snaps from shotgun, but so did QB's in the NFL for 60% of all snaps.
Since you perseverate on his mechanics--exactly what about his mechanics makes his pro career doomed, yet allowed him so much success throwing in college?
-
why not Todd collins? anyone seen him play since he left Buffalo? He hasn't played that much but, but lately he's played very well. A couple of years ago he played very well and won like the last 4 games of the year and took the Redskins into the playoffs. anyone remember playoffs?
67 for105 63.8 % 888 yds 8.5 yds per attempt 5 TDs and 0 picks in 106.8 rating 4 games.
In the MNF game last year, Campbell was doing his usual job of sucking. Then he got hurt and Todd comes in and imedeatly connects on a 46 yard pass to Moss. Highlights 2 for 4 57 yards 95.8 rating. Then they put Campbell back in and he continued sucking.
Bring him and in and start him. He's got QB knowledge and skills. Give us a year or two reprieve of playing noobies.
I'm all for it. And no, I don't have a Todd Collins jersey. He's old but not bunged up. Rested and ready to start
Big deal. JPL probably put up such "magnificent" (??) numbers at some stretch in his lame career. So far, no Bill sfan has had the F'ed up sense to call for HIM to return.
-
You're right but Sanchez was worst than any QB on our roster this year.
If we take a 1st round QB (even thought I have serious doubts about both of them), they become our face.
How can anybody doubt that Sanchez is the face of the Jets? Read the papers.
And really, He was worst than any QB on the Bills roster??
Incredible.
They are now selling Bills shirts, with the NFC logo on it
