  1. Because he's not Cowher, Gruden, Holmgren, Shanahan, Schottenheimer, Billick, or Dungy?
  2. THANK YOU!!!
  3. With a name like that, I think I smell playoffs.
  4. I'll take Modrak and Guy being shown the door...well, in Modrak's case having his OBD Pass revoked.
  5. Personally I prefer the 3-4 to the 4-3 on defense. And let us not forget, those massive tubs of lard that we have had as an offensive line this decade were drafted by Modrak and signed as free agents by Guy (Reyes, Teague, Walker, Dockery). Get a real GM and better scouts and pro personnel people, and this is a philosophy that would be ideal for the climate of WNY in late November- January.
  6. Sorry, don't have a link. I believe it was from a book that was actually referenced on this board last week, I believe. It was something to the effect that the weather, the blue-collar fan base, the collegiate atmosphere all rolled into one made for the ideal environment for football. I was just as shocked when I read it. Sorry that I could not be of more help.
  7. You are wrong on Bruce Allen. The QB thing in Tampa was due to Gruden never being happy with his play at the QB position. Not only that, but after the Super Bowl, Allen fled to Atlanta and helped them out. He was long gone when Tampa began to implode.
  8. If we could only be so fortunate!
  9. Go Thurman! Could this mean that this is the end for Modrak and Guy? I will be halting my plans to cancel my NFL Sunday Ticket subscription if these 2 guys are next...
  10. I don't need a high profile coach, with the understanding that a real, competent, proven NFL GM is hired and given control of the football operation. I also am more concerned with removing Modrak and Guy and replacing them with guys like Nix and Kokinis or Gabriel than the head coach and staff. I believe that the main reason the organization has suffered is because they did not replace the front office talent when Butler, Smith, and Nix left for San Diego. The front office was allowed to wither and rot. Donahoe sucked, and Marv was not any better. Brandon is a marketing guy with his roots in baseball. Give me someone who has a proven record of building winners (Allen, Wolf, Reese), and let them make the coaching choices. I'll be on board with a real front office in place.
  11. Well, if I am allowed to dream it would be Parcells at GM, and whoever he chooses at HC. If I won't be allowed to dream, then it would be someone like Floyd Reese at GM and Schottenheimer at HC.
  12. But Gabriel is an unproven. He has a tremendous record with the Giants, I get that. But let's look at the Bills front office during the Super Bowl years. Polian led the unit, but it also included AJ Smith, Buddy Nix, and the late John Butler. Polian left and built Carolina into a contender. Butler assumed the reins in Buffalo, and we returned to the playoffs. Butler, Smith, and Nix left for San Diego, and then built them into a contender. My point is that you don't reach for unproven guys (as the Bills have done with their coaches this decade). You have to earn the position. You've probably heard the phrase "the cream rises to the top". Handing it over to an unproven guy, regardless of his record, is not best in this situation. Buffalo needs to set about getting the front office stocked with talent and future GM's. Is Gabriel one of these? Alot of people seem to think so. He would be a nice hire, but for something more in line with the Pro Personnel Department. He could replace John Guy. Let Nix take over for Modrak. Hire a real, proven GM who has done it before, knows what it takes, and can lead by example (Reese, Allen, Wolf). I, for one, am personally tired of experiments.
  13. Yeah, but I don't know that I agree with this as you are forgetting about the massive ego's of the coaches and GM's out there. Personally, I get excited about the idea of dealing, drafting, and building a champion. As Parcells and Polian have demonstrated, it does not take that long to make positive changes. Often, within 2-3 seasons there is a complete reversal of fortune. Yes, money is a huge factor and we all know Ralph gets all nervous about a football man having all of the power. But clearly, Brandon is better suited in marketing or business, and we need a real football GM. Fire Modrak and Guy. Promote Nix. Get a real Pro Personnel man. Rebuild the scouting department. I think the only thing inhibiting some of the more respected coaches and GM's out there is the question of just how much is Ralph going to commit to truly building this club. If Ralph is serious, and makes the necessary organizational changes, I don't see any candidates having an issue.
  14. Yes, but first their needs to be fundamental organizational change. Modrak and Guy have proven nothing but their ineptitude. Brandon is not a capable performer in the GM role. The scouting department has either been given tasks it is not suited for or is just plain terrible. We need a real, proven GM. I would love Parcells, but he is locked up. Lombardi makes an interesting point today in his article, and he is available. Holmgren would be nice in a dual role. Bruce Allen and Floyd Reese also come to mind. Floyd Reese has built some tough, big teams in Tennessee too. Buddy Nix was here in the glory years, he combined with AJ Smith and the late John Butler to build San Diego into a powerhouse, and is now back with the Bills. He should assume Modrak's old post as Director of College Scouting. That NY Giants guy everyone gets all excited about could make a nice Pro Personnel guy. Or maybe the recently fired Kokinis. He got a raw deal in Cleveland, as he was successful in Baltimore for 13 seasons. Marv is retired, and I can appreciate his experienced input, but bottom line: if he's not earning a paycheck from the Bills, he should remain on the sidelines and shut his yap. Then, after the front office is reassembled, and a new coaching staff is in place, then we can talk about schemes. I like the 3-4.
  15. Yeah, I didn't even consider the weather and its effects on an undersized defense predicated on speed. Especially when playing in the elements and the traction on the field does not allow for speed. I think the time is now for Ralph to strike. Sully's article in today's News is right in that aspect. I'm not as concerned about the head coach AS LONG AS the GM that is hopefully hired to head the football operation does the hiring and is someone that knows what he is doing. Brandon can move back to marketing and the business side.
  16. Lombardi is available, too. I like the idea. Parcells has said that Buffalo is the ideal location for football. Would Parcells ever leave Miami? Just for giggles, does anyone know the terms of Parcells contract in Miami?
  17. Marty-ball would be perfect in the elements of Buffalo. Michael Lombardi's article makes perfect sense. Buffalo needs two massive lines that dominate the opposing teams. Parcells has said that Buffalo is the ideal location for football. I sure wish Parcells was available for GM/ President.
  18. Woah, there Speedy! Next Firings MUST be Modrak and Guy. We'll need Brandon to sell tickets to it...
  19. Because I am 10 years sick and tired of hiring hopes and wishes and promises. And because there is too much coaching and GM talent available this offseason to pass up.
  20. You may use his "only 1 year" bit as your reasoning, but this guy is not qualified to be an NFL GM. First off, he came from Baseball. Not high school football. Not college. NOT even an NFL post. He came from an entirely different sport and was hired out of a need for Marketing. Not scouting. Marketing. Big difference. The TO signing is exhibit 2. As we now see, it was strictly a move to put butts in seats. I think it has more to do with making Toronto ticket sales successful than the team. Exhibit 3 is MIchael Vick. It reeks of making moves solely based upon gate attraction, and name recognition due to controversy. That is not a plan, scripted based upon years of experience under a master architect (like AJ Smith, John Butler, and Buddy Nix were under Polian). What is the identity of this team? What is the plan in its draft? What is it building towards? Schobel's comments this past Sunday are exactly the sentiment. Is there a plan? 'Barnum & Bailey' Brandon's only plan is for gate sizzle. Sell out the stadium, no matter what pile of frosted turd plays on it in a Bills uniform. We need a proven, winning GM. The other post from Ed Kilgore offers much promise. Brandon has been starting the search for a proven GM. Brandon may not be as big of a problem as Modrak and Guy, but he is not immune from criticism and worthy to retain his current post.
  21. One of the MANY things that I don't understand about Modrak, is how this guy remains employed with the Bills but is never in Buffalo. Doesn't he live in Jacksonville, FL? He needs to go. And John Guy is the biggest waste of space in the Bills front office since Tom Modrak We need a head on a pike to satisfy the stupidity of signing Larry Triplett, Derrick Dockery, Langston Walker, and Robert Royal. We need retribution for trading away Peters, and not keeping Winfield, Fletcher, and Pat Williams. Please, PLEASE Ralph, don't stop with Jauron. FIRE MODRAK AND GUY!!
  22. not only is Jauron gone, but most likely this wretched 'Tampa 2' defense too.
  23. Now, we just need to clean up Donahoe's remaining mess...
  24. Something had to light a fire under Ralphie! Thank you, Mr. Adams! Give us 2 more salutes (for Modrak and Guys' heads to roll).
