Like many of you, I really wonder how much influence will Wanny have on the defense. Remember when Dick Lebeau was hired mid season as assistant head coach for the bills and Gray was the defensive coordinator. If memory serves me correct, Gray still made the defensive calls. In fact, I don't remember the defense changing much at all. At the conclusion of that season, Lebeau was offered the defensive coordinator job (supposedley a downgrade from being an assistant head coach) and he turned it down to become a defensive coordinator with the steelers. So if being an assistant head coach is truly an upgrade, why would Lebeau (1) turn down the position to become a defensive coordinator at another team (2) why would the Bills offer Lebeau a defensive coordinator job after having him on staff an an assistant head coach. As much as I wish different, I think an assistant head coach is nothing more than tittle to not insult Wanny. He may make more than Edwards etc, but at the end of the day, it will be Edwards who will be responsible for defensive game planning with heavy input from Wanny. Don't expect to see many new wrinkles in the defense.

Remember the Bills made big free agent acquisitions? Remember when they made trades sending out 1st round picks for top flight free agents??? It doesn't happen anymore. When was the last time the Bills made a splash in free agency? When was the last time the Bills picked up a player who was high in demand that everyone wanted? That's why we aren't winning. Look at the impact of our free agents? Look at the impact of our top picks? The only thing keeping this team together is performance of low round draft picks and cheap journeyman players. At the end of the day you need the right horses to win the race. I think Ralph needs to open the wallet and I think nix needs to get some better folks in charge of pro player personnel and scouting. And by the way, with the whole cash to cap system in place, the bills being 12th in spending is very misleading.

totally agree Erik Flowers takes that prize. As of right now. But Maybin may end up winning. I say this because one, Maybin was drafted higher than Flowers and two, Maybin hasn't gotten as much love action as Flowers.

Is Byrd still a ball hawk????????? Byrd made most of intereceptions in two games......Byrd has been 100% invisible this year....bottom line....he has made zero plays.....there is no way a person who knows football can say that Byrd is having a better year than Whitner...I don't give a damn about last year....cause if we go by the past, then Edwards should be our starter based on him leading us to that 5-0 start.....I think Florence, McGee and Whitner and maybe Edwards(in no order) are the best players on the Bills defense

I don't like any of the Qb's I've seen this far as a number 1 pick. Grandpa Wilson should knock the cobwebs off of that wallet and do whatever he has to to get Vick. Then take that high first round draft pick and either trade down for two mid round 1st (use it for OT or DL or LB). So Summary, Imagine we spend money in fa and get Vick. Trade the likely top pick overall for two mid 1st rounders pick up an OT and DL in the first and then come back with our 32nd pick (2nd round) and get a OLB. That's how you put a team together. Hell, we might even get lucky and get another stud OLB in the 3rd round too. P.S. Dick Jauron's Tampa Two Doesn't look so bad now does it?

This is a depressing time to be a bills fan. I honestly think there is a possibility that we will go win less this year. Chris Kelsay, should have been cut or given a reduced salary. He didn't produce in the 4-3 and he isn't producing in the 3-4. If you guys think Whitner is trash then what is Kelsay. This is a sad day for the franchise. I am tired of being picked on all of the time for being a Bills fan. I am tired of us always getting these nonamed players. I am tired of not getting pro bowl players in their prime. It's sad that our only frequent pro bowler is our punter. This is soooooo sad. We deserve better than this.

I hate to see Edwards go. Maybe he was not the man for the job, but I still hate to see him leave. This is the same guy that lead us to 5-0 (or 4 and 0); including a come from behind win. Whereever he lands I wish him well.

I don't see what you guys see in Whitner. The game I saw today, I saw Whitner making damn near every tackle on the field. At least he is on the damn field. Puslusny isn't even on the damn field most of the time, he does nothing that stands out when he is out there but he is not put on the hot seat like Whitner is. What about Jarius Byrd. The earlier poster referenced Whitner being slow but it was actually Byrd who was looking the opposite way and bad angle on that moss Td. What Whitner has made more plays this year than Byrd. Oh yes I said he has. Whitner is just easy to pick on because he talks stuff and his draft status. You guys are so easy to want to part ways with him but have you seen his potential replacement ...Scott?????? You are the same people who wanted Owens gone so that Johnson could start. Whitner is an average safety, I agree with that. He has not played up to his draft spot, I give you that. But so the hell what. I'll take him over other high profile players on our D.

Last time I checked, wasn't Brohm cut from the Packers????? He couldnt even make it as a 3rd stringer there. Furthermore, Brohm wasn't exactly a world beater in his start last season.....also, Brohm did not win the QB competition during camp, he didn't even come in 2nd place...you guys need to relax with all of this back up qb talk...its ridiculous....Gailey is the coach and its in his best interest to start the best guy for the job.....thats why TE is the qb...simple as that....if Gailey felt someone else was better they would be starting

I totally agree that Trent Edwards deserves a shot.....remember week 1? Remember how he performed when he had a line that blocked for him? Remember 2 seasons ago, he lead us to 1 of 3 teams with undefeated records and you saw him on ESPN, etc....he did not just become bad over night.....lets give him a chance. More so than Brian Brohm, I am interested in what Levi brings to the table

From what I've seen from Bell, he is a solid starter with injury problems....make no mistake about it, Bell was a rookie last year....he essentially had the same amount of playing time as Weed and Levitre going into the season opener....and he was thrown into the position....I still think you have to draft an LT somewhere within the 1st 3 rounds......and not for nothing..but I think Chambers is the worse offensive lineman in Bills History....I have no idea how this guy holds down a roster spot....and there is no freakin way you can tell me Chambers was better than Walker

Moulds and Winfield are my favorite Bills post the glory days....having said that, I think Reed was the best receiver in Bills history....Reed does not have the phsyical skills that Moulds did...very few ppl have those skills to this day...but Reed's toughness, route running, hands, ability to read coverages and get open...cannot be caught on a stat sheet.....As much as I like Lee Evans, I most certainly would not put him in their class....I honestly wouldnt put Evans much above Done Bebe Evans is as good as a deep threat as you can find and he has pretty good hands etc....but he is almost no existant under neath and its too easy to take him out of a game

Last time Bills used a bind but dont break 3-4, they finished with the #1 rated defense in the league....under Ted Cotrell

What are you guys talking about?? Reading these post, you would think Whitner wasn't even worthy of playing in the NFL.....Is he in the league of a Reed or the other guys of course not....but the guy is a good Safety......I don't recall him costing us games....or getting beat often....I don't get it....you guys want to thrown him under the bus but a guy like Pusluszny (who is always chasing guys down the field after they have passed the 2nd level of defense) isn't given much heat.....I dont know about you, but if I had a choice of keeping one of those guys on my team (not thinking about depth), I am taking Whitner......If you compare Whitner with Byrd, Byrd obviously makes the game changing plays with the interceptions...but aside from that, What does Byrd do better than Whitner???? I'll tell you....nothing For some reason, I just think Bills fans do not like Whitner....I saw the same treatment with McGahee (who was a good back 1,000 yd season), Lynch (good back 1,000 yd season) etc... But guys like Schobel (look at his production numbers), Posluszny (look at his numbers) aren't criticized nearly as much I just think of players don't fit a certain image, Bills fans are much more critical I am not saying that Whitner has played the part of a 11th overall pick....but the guy certainly has talent and is far from a liability on the field....when you look at our roster, what we need is talent....we aren't a position to be cherry picking....you put Whitner in a defense that can better utilize his talents and I think he is more productive....not pro bowl productive but I think he would be more productive The problem for Whitner is that he is an undersized SS.....He is a SS in the body of a FS or CB

I am sure I will get roasted for this one, but I really like Kevin Kolb as well.....if it costs a 1 and 4, I would pull the trigger......UNLESS....the Bills have a shot at a top flight college qb this year.....I also like Todd Collins (only if the OL is taken care of as he has zero mobility)....lastly, I like Vick Kolb, my first pick, will only be effective if the OL is taken care of. One thing ppl are forgetting is this: Our OL isn't as bad as you think.....they are just beaten up with injuries more than anything Next year, you start an OL with LT Bell LG Levitre C Wood RG Incognito RT Butler or you put Hangartner in and take out Incognito...this would be a solid, young OL.......If they can get a top flight LT (via draft or fa) then you are cooking So imagine that OL and Kolb throwing behind it....and I like our chances
