  1. My starters in a keeper league were a choice of two between Adrian Peterson, Freddie, and Matt Forte and was sitting pretty...until last week, but now that that's blown up, it's Spiller or Ryan Torain...um, Spiller it is.
  2. I respect that, but people were saying the same thing about Pat Williams, before he left us and went to 3 Pro Bowls for the Vikings. And before you say positional, so was this -- the mantra was "no defensive linemen over 32' (or something like that). John Riggins had his two best years at 34 and 35. Some players are just freaks. I'd sign Freddie to a decent contract on a chance, if only as a thanks for being him (and it would shut up all the "ralph is cheap" chants) That said, while I'm heartbroken that Jackson won't get to complete his magical season, I hope CJ gives them something where they have to design plays to use both of them.
  3. We've gone 4-2 so far against some pretty heavy-hitting offenses, so you just may be wrong. And defenses evolve; especially young ones. Sorry if I seem jumpy, it's just that the whole pre-season there was so much "how can we expected to be better than worst in the NFL with this offensive line"...now the offensive line has performed the best in all the NFL. Teams evolve and this one is doing it with something special. Besides, the Patriots and Colts have won week after week in recent years with some pretty spectacularly lousy defenses. Let's accept we might just have a special team. And if they fail, well, what have we lost.
  4. He also had a stretch where he was something like 18-1. I don't care who the supporting cast is or if he happened to be playing with the best defense ever; "top 50 worst quarterbacks ever" would find a way to lose.
  5. I always went with "Trammel the Mammals"
  6. Oh, dear lord. Second guessing is fine; however, when everyone's first guess was to get rid of him before Gailey/Nix/et al, it's absolutely absurd for there to be whining about it. If he becomes a star for the division rivals: yes, that sucks, but let's not pretend that there was not 99% of this board was calling for his head from day one. Frankly, he was my choice for pick that year, and if I had my druthers, they would have kept him on the off chance he would have even these three sacks (which do not mean he's a superstar, btw), but even having said that, I do not think it was a stupid move. Hell, the Jets cut him as well.
  7. Indeed....when I drink beer the Bills are 4-1 this year!
  8. Really?!!! Are you serious? Barnett had an amazing game and we weren't run against and still have given only 100 yard rushing game up. Bills fans are effing ridiculous!!
  9. Yes, because no team has ever done poorly one week and then come back the next week, nor has any team improved. Hey, they got twice as many interceptions against Brady as against Dalton.
  10. Tell this to the riot police (and fireman) who were dispersed to the two overflowing Bills bars on 42nd & 2nd in NYC on Sunday . Anyway, I get where you're coming from, but the "ignorant" part was completely uncalled for.
  11. Three players at this point is pretty standard (and considering mcgee and parrish and their history -- sadly, not too surprising). And one of them has a heart ailment (not really sure how they could have avoided that one).
  12. Seriously???!!! We win an amazing game and are 2-0 and this is what we're talking about. Damn, we're a miserable bunch!
  13. Sadly, yes, this. One of my editors was talking last week about how excited she was about football season. I asked what team (having an inkling as she was from new hampshire)? I made a joke about them being a mortal enemy or something. She asked me what team I followed, and she said "you're not a jets fan, are you, I hate them." I was wearing a Buffalo Bills shirt and had been sitting next to her for the past 9 or so hours. We just don't register at this point to Pats fans. Hopefully that changes week 3.
  14. I thought you were going to say Jerry Sullivan had tapped us to win. I'd say your assessment is about right, and (and it may just be the lover of narrative in me) might add the prediction that we hold them under 100 yards rushing.
  15. Maybe Marcell is just very polite and didn't have the heart to correct him . After all, even People Magazine couldn't break it to Elvis Grbac that he was not the sexiest athlete alive. http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2009/6/25/924614/the-best-elvis-grbac-story-youll
  16. You know, we were one dropped pass away from beating the Steelers last year and lost by 3 points or less against three other teams who were much better than last year's not-as-good version of the Bills, so really you never know. The Patriots should have "killed" the Browns last year...they didn't.
  17. On a similar tip, had to duck in a big-name clothes place today by my job on 19th st. in NYC and was joyously surprised to see a huge display of Bills gear (we're talking hundreds of items). Just e-mailed to see if it's still showing games, but as of last year, they were showing the games in Hoboken at Northern Soul -- really nice vibe, good group and cool bartenders. Good alternative to McFadden's overcrowds (although calico jack's overflow is usually a great mix of passion and not-getting-jostledness -- although sitting at the bar with 3 dollar drinks, the second half is often a bit blurry for me).
  18. Two years ago, before teams realized they could run on the Bills all day, they were 2nd in yards allowed and 2nd in INTs (which if you want to make an argument that teams didn't pass on them, well, that's even more impressive then). And they have done well with a minimal pass rush. This team isn't significantly different so if Merriman and company get the QB pressure they likely will, this secondary could be a nightmare for opposing QBs. If memory serves, Brady had his worst game of the year against the Bills. Hopefully, we can make it the two worst this year.
  19. You're both right in a sense. It was the first game I ever went to and it was indeed 0 degrees (but only if you speak in celsius) and the snow began to fall as we counted down the final minute to the Super Bowl. The next day, however, was 11 degrees with a hearty wind and I sadly would not have had the fortitude for that. Amazing game though.
  20. Actually, the Pats have not "destroyed" us in half the games we've played the past two years. I see no reason why a young team who finished stronger than they started would do worse this year.
  21. Wow...26 is old now? Just wow. And that Jammie Kirlew dig is absolutely absurd. Well, the Bills pretty much answered almost every question there in pre-season game number three (fitz 11/12, offensive line didn't let him get touched, stopped the run, spiller had some good runs) and hopefully that's a preview of what's to come. It's in vogue to bash the Bills; hopefully, they'll prove them wrong with their play in the regular season.
  22. It's not really apt to say it's badmouthing Lee Evans to say that he doesn't fit the system. His numbers kind of bear that out over the last few seasons. I love Lee Evans and hope he does well with the Ravens, but at this point, frankly, I'm more excited to see the young receivers -- as a UB alum am happy to see Namaan likely make the team (and he looked good in the games he played and from what i've heard in pre-season). Ok, maybe I'll regret these words if SJ is double-teamed and we're 3 and out most drives, but Jones, Nelson, and Roosevelt were all exciting to watch and helped make last year's 4-12 season more watchable and hopeful than that dreadful array of moribund 7-9/6-10 Jauron teams.
  23. Our offensive line was the same or worse last year (how quickly we forget Cornell Green), yet change a few plays and we could have been 7-9 or 8-8 with one of the hardest schedules. I'm getting sick of this "our offensive line sucks so we're going to be the worst team in football" logic. Our offensive line has been about this level for years. The Steelers went to the Super Bowl with one of our cast-offs...offensive line is important and I can't say I love Gailey's shuffling them around (though i get it), but it's not the only part of a team.
  24. Oh, fercryingoutloud, it's the same offensive line as last year when we were mathematically closer to 6-10 than 0-16, coupled with a much better defense. Y'all cassandras need to get some sleep.
  25. You know, I was young, but I recall a lot of people saying the same thing about the original Bruce Smith when his contract first came up.
