Carson Palmer & the effect on the draft..
bobobonators replied to bobobonators's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not sure about AVP, but I know of a JPL who could be a backup Says who? Recent history shows otherwise. -
Agreed! However, you left the great Keslay off of that list

Carson Palmer & the effect on the draft..
bobobonators replied to bobobonators's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
lol..i'm sure they are saying that. But unlike the Bengals, we at least have a starting QB right now. You'd be hard-pressed to deny the fact that Carson Palmer announcing that he will never play for the Bengals again, just a few weeks before the draft, puts the Bengals in a very tight spot right now and going forward. I pretty much agree...I'd be hard pressed to see any of the other non-netwon/gabbert QB's jump into the 1nd round though..you look at picks 17-32, and really only one team - the seahawks at #25 - are capable of drafting a QB and that would be a long shot imo. The only way I'd see the Seahawks taking a QB is if Gabbert is still there when they pick...but after the first round i could definitely see the rest of the top QB's being selected before the 3rd round like you said.. -
Carson Palmer & the effect on the draft..
bobobonators replied to bobobonators's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I definitely wouldn't want Palmer at this point in his career..especially since it would have to be done via trade. I can't wait to see how it plays out, there's going to be 4-5 teams-at least-jockying for position for 2 QB's. -
Carson Palmer & the effect on the draft..
bobobonators replied to bobobonators's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No, I didn't mean for us to get Palmer. We'd get a 2nd round pick back from the team we trade down with at 5, 7, or 8. The bengals have said they won't trade Palmer..I don't know how that situation will work out. Or by your post do you mean that the Bengals trade us Palmer & their second rd. pick to jump up to our spot?..i'm not sure what you meant by your post..sorry. -
After listening to Carson Palmer pretty much declare that he'll never play for the bengals again and is willing to essentially sit out, what effect do you think this would have on the draft? The Bengals should be in panic mode right now b/c if Palmer goes, who's their back up? Jordan Palmer? Don't they wish they still had fitzy!? Anyway, the bengals pick right after us at 4..but right after the bengals, we have Arizona at 5, San Fran at 7, and Tennessee at 8...ALL of these teams could seriously be looking for a QB. If the Bengals realize that Palmer isn't coming back, their interest in Cam Newton/Gabbert at #4 should probably increase exponentially. That being said, the Bills could possibly use this as an opportunity to trade with either Arizona, San Fran, or Tennesee so one of these three teams can be assured of getting their QB at #3 before the Bengals pick. Though I'm not 100% sold on trading down, it would be extremely hard to not trade down for example with arizona since that would mean we'd be gettting back at least an extra 2nd rounder...The chances of at least ONE of the following, Dareus, Quinn or Fairley being there at 5 would still be extremely high, imo. If I'm the bills, and at the end of the day I have Dareus/Quinn/Fairley rated as 1a, 1b, 1c..meaning that it's THAT close...i'd probably just trade down if the option presents itself. I for one hope that Palmer sticks to his guns, b/c at the very least it gives us more leverage/trading power come draft day. Thoughts?

LOL. Exactly. The scouts are actually being kind. The statement should simply read: "Needs to learn how to play QB." It's really quite simple folks. Cam Newton has a SINGLE season as a starting QB in DivI. Adding insult to injury, during that SINGLE season, Cam Newton had a WHOPPING 280 pass attempts..not completions..ATTEMPTS. He had 21 pass attempts a game. LOL. 3rd pick? But ya, he can run too!...blah. His shenanigans on the field at Auburn won't come so easily in the NFL, and he's going to have to THROW the ball - that is after all what QB's do. Ok, I'm done with my anti-Cam rhetoric for the day.

Post-Combine: Who do YOU want to draft @ #3
bobobonators replied to NewEra's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
D A R E U S! It's as clear as day for me. -
i would much rather have Martez Wilson from Illinois; also, big on my list as a good, solid player with not much hype is colin mccarthy from Miami - EXCELLENT tackler...i still can't decide if I would prefer Sturdivant or mccarthy in the 3rd..

Patrick Peterson runs a 4.32 Forty at the Combine
bobobonators replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
..and rightfully so. At this point, I'd rather draft Cam at #3 over Peterson..and for me, that's saying a lot. On a sidenote, does anyone else notice that the "fastest times ever" at the combine are primarily all by much older/different generation-type players? I'm calling BS. Players have only gotten faster/stronger since Bo Jackson/Alexander Wright. IMO, timing mechanisms have changed...or those times were misrecorded for whatever reason. -
LOL..the myth continues.. Newton started one season in his Div I career - ONE SEASON - and he ran the spread better than anyone ever has in college!!! Yes! He sh*ts gold too. Sam Bradford ran a spread at Oklahoma and threw for 50td's in a single season..oh ya, but cam can sure run! PASS.

What would happen if there isn't a season?
bobobonators replied to bobobonators's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
DL don't normally come into the NFL and dominate from day 1, especially DL like Troup and Carrington who weren't even selected in the 1st round...what would you rather do? Keep on drafting players in the 2nd and 3rd round and keep replacing them year after year? Sometimes it takes time, and nobody on here can dismiss these two players as wasted picks...both will probably see considerable starting time this season. Also, lets see what Wang can do this season in camp and preseason after being behind the eight ball most of the year last year due to injury. Gotcha, thanks. That makes the most sense I guess. -
We'll Be Drafting Our Franchise QB This Year
bobobonators replied to Bangarang's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
it's the same thing every year...on draft day, mel kiper sings the praises of every single player after they're selected..few ever really pan out the way one imagines. nevertheless, this time of year it's still fun to dream -
I agree. Also, at least Vince Young had two full seasons at Texas..he was raw as it was...imagine Newton with only one full season? Not only that, Newton had a full season in an offense where his only responsibility was to make one read, and if that WR wasn't open..run with the ball. That crap won't work in the NFL. Listen, if you're a team with the 15th or 20th pick, and are in desperate need of a QB..go knock yourself out and role the dice. But we're at #3 this year, and IMO, it would be absolutely criminal to take a QB with so little playing time under his belt at that spot...then, add on the minor integrity/personality question marks into the equation, and to me it's a no-brainer - no thanks.

Paea blows away lift record at combine
bobobonators replied to BeastMode54's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Paea is an absolute beast...I wouldn't mind taking him with the 2nd pick...though he's undersized for a NT, he's stronger than most players that are 330-350...that being said, paea is probably better suited for the 4-3. to the other posters..i'm big on the NC players as well..lets also not overlook Bruce Carter..you don't hear much about him in the draft..had a great season before being suspended..could be a steal if he drops to 3rd round. -
Pin this: Newton has one season of college ball, and we have the #3 pick. Do I really need to say more? Unreal.

QBs drafted in the 2nd or 3rd round from 2000-2010
bobobonators replied to Phlegm Alley's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
your anti-Fitz rhetoric is the only thing that is growing. I didn't say the above statement that you quoted, that was someone else...but to now say that Bradford had a better year than Fitz is simply incorrect. There's absolutely no argument: Fitz had 5 more TD's in 2 fewer games; had a higher QB rating; and Fitz YPA was 6.80 compared to Bradford at 5.95. This isn't to diminish Bradford - I like him. But to say that Bradford had "arguably" a better season than Fitz? Based on what? And don't tell me, oh but he was a rookie..I don't care if he was a rookie..he still didn't have a better season. End of story. You dismiss the statement from the other poster that Fitz will be better than Cam two years from now as if the other poster is delusional or something. I'd argue that the only delusion on these boards is to believe it's a guarantee that Cam will put up 25+td's 3,000+ yds, and a +80 rating in the nfl within the next two years...b/c that's what Fitz did this year. Good luck w/ that pipe dream. -
QBs drafted in the 2nd or 3rd round from 2000-2010

Perfect post man. My thoughts exactly. Perfect post man. My thoughts exactly. -
lol..that other poster made absolutely no sense w/the tat comment.

I have only seen CK play in 2 games (don't see many wolfpack games), but in both games he was quite impressive. The guy is both huge and fast, and throws lasers...BUT, his throwing motion will probably need to be adjusted for the nfl...which to me is a scary proposition. That being said, if Gailey/Nix & Co. are extremely confident about the kid, and are 100% sure he can be leading our football team in 2 years, I would have no problems taking him with our 2nd round pick. Fitz starts this season and maybe next, while CK gets groomed and his mechanics get fine-tuned and hopefully he'll be ready to take over in 2012/2013.

Gailey says while OT is not a crying need......
bobobonators replied to JStranger76's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Tyron Smit will NOT go in the top 5, guaranteed. I'll bet you my buffalo bills piggy-bank helmet on that one. Some of these draft boards at this time are so insane that you can have anyone "shootin up." Draft boards this time of year are of a "look at me mentality" where the creator simply tries to stand out from the kiper's and mcshay's of the world by creating some insanely different draft order than anyone else. That being said, I haven't seen Tyron Smith listed at 3 on any draft board whatsoever. -
Gailey says while OT is not a crying need......
bobobonators replied to JStranger76's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ya, i agree that our O-line wasn't great with respect to the running game, and we always seem to be outmatched in 3rd and short, failing to get much of a push at the LOS. That being said, we have a couple of young pieces in the OL that I still want to see more of, whereas we have gaping holes in our defense and simply need bodies..especialy now that stroud is gone. I dunno, to me our first pick should be DL and nothing else..whether it be fairley, dareus, or quinn. I just think that this year's draft is set up perfectly for us to address our most glaring need, which imo, is DL. Also, on a practical level, I just can't see us taking a T in the first round b/c no T grades even close to being top 5..we'd have to trade down all the way to 10-12 probably to take the first tackle..it's hard to trade down that far.
