Revisiting the Daryle Lamonica trade
billsfan714 replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We had to do it because he didnt want to be here At least they tried Its too soon to judge it, NFL historians are still debating it. The Raiders got lucky Did I miss any? -
Not this. We rip our coaches for being too conservative...see Jauron/Marrone. We rip the FO for being reckless and making stupid trades see trading up for JP Losman, John McCargo, trading Lynch for Hairston/Carder, trading All-Pro Peters for Wood, and debatably giving up too much for WR Watkins in a deep WR draft. The McGahee trade didnt net much, Lee Evans was traded for Ron Brooks and I know you will point out the Hughes trade--yes that was a good trade but if we dont re-sign him it wont mean a lot in the long run.

This I agree with. Looking at the QBs for AFC playoff teams---Brady, Mannning, Luck, Rivers, Roethlisburger, Flacco, etc., it was a foolish to think you were going to get there with the lot of EJ, Thad Lewis and Tuel. This team wasnt a Sammy Watkins away from the playoffs, we are several players away. I dont think anybody is arguing Watkins is a bust, that's a strawman arguement. The question is simply did we give up too much. I would say yes...If the all rookie team is just a starting lineup, then Sammy doesnt make the team over ODB, Evans or Benjamin. He will make a AFC all rookie team. Everybody knew this was a deep WR draft, it wasnt the year to move up to get one, it was a year to stand pat and let the draft come to you. I say this a lot in my posts, but I compare the Bills organization to the Steelers, one successful and one not successful, and try to compare what we do that they dont. To me, the Steelers dont panic and let the draft come to them. Need a QB--Big Ben, a safety-Polamalu, TE-Miller, a G-Decastro, RB-Bell, C-Pouncey, etc. You rarely seem them trade up or panic. The Bills on the other hand fall in love too much with one player and frequently over draft that player or they panic. For example I feel confident the Bills could of traded down again, got another pick and still got EJ, spare me the Eagles BS. They panic for a QB, trade extra picks for JP and miss Rodgers the next year, they think they know more than other teams and take Whitner over Ngata, and it goes on and on.

Knee jerk reactions to defend anything this team has done while we miss the playoffs for 15 straight years. Or lets not re-hash the past. This is a message board devoted to one team 24/7/365, sorry but we're going to talk about the past, present and future of this team. Throwback uniforms other than the Chargers

Article: Why OL is bigger issue than Hackett/QB
billsfan714 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good article, it gives a deeper understanding to what your eyes were seeing all year. Seems a lot easier to take the next step to the playoffs by improving the line rather than pipe dreaming about some quarterback. Im all for drafting another one this year, I just wouldnt expect him to step in and improve over what we did. If you take Orton's numbers and take them out over 16 games you would get 4100 yards passing 24 tds and 15 ints. I dont think there's anbody we can realistically get who is going to do better than that. With improved line play could Orton get to 30tds....maybe. With improved line play could we rush for more TDs than we did, without question. That should translate to more wins and the playoffs. I agree with other posters, the OL coach has got to go. -
The guy has been one of the top 3 most productive backs in the NFL the last 4 years. He's missed one game in 5 years.....so much for the suspension crap. I'll take Marshawn and a SB trophy you can have Chris Kelsay and Ryan Denney.
-
The guy has almost 1600 rushing/receiving yards and 16 tds on the season.....care to share the 10 guys you think are better?
-
If you think trading Marshawn Lynch for Chris Hairston and Tank Carder was good then you dont know what you're talking about.

OK.. OFFSEASON WISH LIST/ PRIORTIES TIME

Individual offensive talent regression

Can't argue with what you are saying. If it wasnt for the talent on D and Schwartz this team would be 4-12. -

My cut/dont re-sign list..... CJ Lee Smith Goodwin Chris Williams Pears Brooks Gay Manny Lawson Tuel I do everything reasonable to keep Hughes In the draft and free agency its all about getting a QB and Gs I keep Orton for next year, that salary isnt that high and Im going into it knowing 2015 is the last year he is in my plans. I view him as a one year place holder, a bridge to the next QB and I dont think its Manuel. If we draft another QB in rounds 2-3, and I hope we do, it wouldnt be fair to this defense to start him and have a sub 500 record. Orton is what he is, but with a better OL he could get you to a wildcard. That would be confidence boost to a young team and hopefully in 2016 the new guy is ready to step into a good situation. -
We were hoping to keep Sparano up all night game planning on how to stop him, because you know CJ can take it to the house at any time. Sarcasm......

The dual nature of being a Bills fan of my age
billsfan714 replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think after you cross the 5-0 you look at a lot of things differently. For me, it really hit me that I am hopefully in my last full decade of working and you can see a goal(retirement) getting closer. As for watching the Bills, I buy Sunday ticket to watch all the games but I dont get too high or low. Ive watched enough football to know this isnt an elite team, so the playoffs weren't on my radar. I predicted 6-10 so they actually exceeded my expectations by 2 games. Sure you can look at a few plays here and there and we could of been 10-6. But after the superbowl years a one and done wild card berth doesnt get me excited. The part that does get me frustrated is the drafting. Taking too many runningbacks, corners billed as shutdown then they dont even make a probowl. Craptastic QBs. You can point to some hits, and you can say every team has misses but we have had too many misses especially in the early rounds. For example, people will say we traded down took EJ and got Kiko in the second. Well if you crap the bed with the 1st pick, well not exactly a great draft. Its Maybin, its Troup, its passing on Ngata when just about every friggin mock draft that year had him going to the Bills. This team needs a Polian draft, a draft where you get future HOFs, I thought about this the other day, after the SB teams what player have we drafted that will make the HOF---Lynch maybe and he's playing for the Seahawks. You combine that with coaching hires that have been less than stellar and you get 15 years no playoffs.. I will become more emotionally invested when I see a team thats elite. Until then I hope for the best but watch games waiting for the implosion and you know its going to happen. -
Well dont be. Imagine if we had the Raiders running stats, think we could of won the game? I do. Then we would be 9-6 heading into the final week. Im not saying Orton is great by any means. But the realistic options for 2015 are Orton, EJ or a rookie. With EJ or a rookie we arent sniffing the playoffs.
-
Orton wasnt great but we did rush for the 4th lowest output in team history. And that aint Ortons fault. Id rather ride with Orton and a improved OL next year than EJ.

Offensive line is the Achilles Heel.
billsfan714 replied to Nitro's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ive never seen a line that has absolutely no push---look at our redzone running struggles and are so un-athletic. Watching these guys block in space is like watching 300 lb drunks stagger out of a bar at closing time. -
He's Jamal Charles minus the production.
