  1. Athletes typically file taxes in two states, if they reside in another state. Taxes get filed in the state of thier HOME games and where they reside the rest of the year. As far as I know there are two ways that athletes can prorate the income. The first is to prorate it by number of games... If someobody lived in Florida in the offseason and played for the Bills, they'd file 7/16ths of their income in NY and 9/16ths in Florida. The other option to figure out "Duty Days". They figure out how many days their duties were required (traning camps, preseason, season, playoffs, etc) and how many of thier duty days were spent in NY. Then they prorate the income respectively. Using the first method of "Games Played", it's to the players advantage that Buffalo plays one game in Toronto if they live in a state has lower income tax rates.
  2. Unless it's contingent upon a new mutli-year contract, there's no way the Bills can give more than a 3rd... and even that is pushing it for one year of his services.
  3. That's why I think they're dumping salaries... not necessarily to make a run, but to stay profitable in the current economy. Even with a payroll at 139 million, they only made a $12 million profit last year. Do you see attendence going up this season?... or do you see more sponsors? The best thing Ralph could do is sell the naming rights of the stadium to generate some extra income.
  4. How much is he asking for? Cleveland avoided tagging him, because the price tag would have been over 6 million. I know he's currently making over 2 million, but I think his asking price must be substantially more. Scott is making less than one million this year... but he's not as good as Sean Jones.
  5. He had Javon Walker in 2006 along with Rod Smith. Marshall was the #3 and the TE was Scheffler. 2007 Javon Walker was injurred most of the year. The leading recievers were Marshall, Stokely, and Scheffler. For what it's worth... 6.2 million buys Brandon Marshall's and Scheffler's current salaries plus an extra million.
  6. Denver is still talking to Detroit about a possible two team trade...
  7. I might be a homer but here are some stats... Trent after 2 seasons (24 games) 643 Attempts 396 Completions 61.6% 4,329 Yards 6.7 Yards Per Attempt 18 TDs 18 INT 79.15 Rating 12 Wins - 12 Losses Cutler after 2 seasons (21 games) 604 Attempts 378 Completions 62.6% 4498 Yards 7.4 Yards Per Attempt 28 TDs 19 INT 88.20 Rating 9 Wins - 12 Losses
  8. 6.2 million gets you a solid back up, a quality offensive lineman, and another reciever.
  9. Should we factor in the 6.2 million dollar difference in price tag? I'll take Edwards plus the money.
  10. I think they're pretty much washes... Nearly identical QB ratings, yards per attempt and INTs per attempt. Cutler was sacked far less, despite attempting 300 more passes. I'll wait to really bash on Edwards until after this season. He did look different after the concussion this season, but Cutler looked pretty sh------- two seasons ago playing with Diabetes. Lets see if Edwards can clear the cobwebs and step up this season.
  11. Amazing how much our D-line is making.... Kind of like Wall Street bonuses.
  12. If the brass has decided that Edwards is the future, it doesn't do us any good to put him on the bench for part or all of this season. Even if Kitna or Garcia were better than Edwards, neither one is getting us deep in the playoffs... or even into the playoffs. We might as well get Edwards another season under his belt, working on his timiing with our wideouts and learning to read pro secondaries. I'd feel differently if we had the league's top defense, and if I honestly thought that a moderate one year step up at QB would make a substantial difference.
  13. First off... Coors doesn't count as drinking. My mother-in-law drinks it, so it's hardly something to brag about on a message board. Fitzpatrick is a back-up. Garcia, Kitna or Cassel would have all brought QB controversy to mini-camp. It doesn't cost us anything, and like it or not... the organization has decided that he's the future.
  14. I vote for some pass rush with the first round pick. DE is a glaring need to me, and now that we've signed a center, getting a potentially better center is a "moderate need". If the opposition's QB doesn't have 6 seconds to throw each pass, our CBs, LBs and Safetey's will all be better.
  15. I'll agree that Edwards has the potential to be a true foundational point. Lynch, Jackson, McKelvin are in the same boat. What gets discouraging is that I'm willing to bet that at leat two of those four names won't be on our roster in 4 years. Look at our turnover when players have produced. Evans - True Standout Reed - Role player, but at times is the hear and soul of the team on the field. Excellent at blocking and does his job to the best of his abilities. He's a great team player, no doubt... but not the talent that you try to build around. Poz will improve with as the DL in front of him improves. Most of the rest are merely solid NFL players, that if they weren't on the Bills you wouldn't consider to be the "foundations" of their respective teams. If you're considering all of these to be the foundation of this team, we've built a team for mediocrity. Who on that list stands out as a field general? Who are you semi-comfortable relying on when the game is on the line? I've tried to be as optimistic as possible, but unless we catch lightning in a bottle over multiple consecutive drafts we're not going to be contenders in this league.
  16. New Motto Options: 1) Buffalo Bills - F#@% It... Let's Get Drunk! 2) Buffalo Bills - We'll check for pollups while we're in there! 3) Buffalo Bills - Slowly Killing Buffalo for 50 Years - See Avatar Logo 4) Buffalo Bills - The Bills make me want to JUMP!
  17. I e-mailed it to them the day after they released the 50th anniversary logo... but I have yet to hear back.
  18. Somehow I think that we'll need more than a nude cardboard cutout of Ralph to motivate this team.
  19. Does anyone know how his lateral movement was during the Electric Slide?
  20. I vote Ban too.
  21. It all depends on the dollars to me... If TJ wants 5 Million more per season, I'd rather have Coles. TJ alone isn't going to make us a playoff team. I'd rather go into the season with Evans, Coles, Reed and 5 million to spend on another quality player than Evans, Housh, Reed and nada. Full Disclosure: I don't think we'll get either. Maybe Bryant Johnson, Drew Bennet, Nate Washington, or some other third tier WR UFA.
  22. That was my favorite Mayne Event ever! Really our only hopes are for FAs that want to be out of the spotlight. Other than that, we have to get more effective at drafting/scouting. We can't afford to have 1st round misses and 2nd and 3rd rounders need to contribute. They don't have to be superstars, but they have to be solid contributors. Eventually, we'll catch lightning in a bottle and have the nucleus for a playoff run. Then FAs at the end of their career will be willing to come onboard for our short window to the promise land. Even in the late 80s and 90's where did we get our core players? Kelly - 1st round pick in '83 and still he decided to go to the USFL until it folded Talley - 2nd Round '83 Greg Bell - 1st Round '84 - Later traded for Cornelius Bennet. Smith - 1st round, 1st pick '85 Reich - 3rd Round '85 Reed - 4th Round '85 Wolford 1st Round '86 Bennet - Traded Gregg Bell to the Rams, Dickerson went to Indy, and we got him. 1st Round '87 Conlan - 1st Round '87 Odoms - 2nd Round '87 Thomas - 2nd Round '88 Beebe - 3rd Round '89 Parker - 3rd Round '90 Henry Jones - 1st Round '91 Hansen - 2nd Round '91 We can only hope that our recent picks of Evans, Lynch, Poz, Edwards, Whitner, McKelvin etc... turn out to a studs in the next few seasons, or it's another lost decade.
  23. This year's 2nd and next years 5th... or so JP Losman just told me in church.
  24. I have no idea if he's gay or not... but I think he's the only person in Buffalo that volunteers (or mugs for photo ops holding a shovel) more than JP Losman. It's like he's a super hero, saving Buffalo one tree at a time during the day, and playing mediocre hockey at night.
  25. Kenneth Davis and Frank Reich
