  1. Is it possible the Bills like Cam Lewis or Damar Hamlin? Lewis started 2 games last season before going on IR, and one game (Houston) this season. Hamlin played about 1/4 of the snaps vs Houston and in the NWE playoff game. I guess I should clarify I don't think either of them are an upgrade on Poyer at this point, just that it's possible the Bills may feel fairly comfortable they might be ready to play - like they let Wallace walk in part because they felt comfortable with Dane Jackson
  2. Hyde is actually slightly older than Poyer. Hyde Dec. 1990 Poyer April 1991 This is just a guess, but I'm thinking that Poyer and his camp may be looking at the contract Harrison Smith signed with the Vikings last season. Smith was 32 when he signed for 4 years, $64M ($26M guaranteed). He's been to 6 probowls and has 1 first-team all-pro. Is he better than Poyer? 🤷‍♂️ He is the outlier of the top-paid safeties as the rest were all 25-27 yrs old when they signed (OK, Quandre Diggs 29), but I think it's a safe bet that you're right, and Poyer wants to get paid like he did.
  3. In the past, Beane has negotiated extensions with players who are important to the team before they enter their contract year. This happened previously with both Poyer and with Hyde. But, Beane is pretty strong in his views that "we don't discuss negotiations", period.
  4. I'm not giving up on "Speedy". TBH when we brought in Isaiah McKenzie he didn't look like he could play WR. He might develop. But, what he's shown us to date doesn't look like we should "bet the rent" (or the season) on him developing into a "Breakout Star"
  5. Ah, yes. That will go well with The Beane Team's insistence on radio silence during negotiations. How do you know this "for sure"?
  6. FWIW, both Poyer and Hyde got new deals prior to free agency, when an argument could be made that they were grossly underpaid for performance. So that would seem to be a case of pot-kettle-black Rachel Bush was "going off" about Von Miller getting signed whilst her hubbykins wasn't being extended, well prior to the Diggs extension. So I would say the "understanding" you speak of may be more perception than reality.
  7. You're entitled to your viewpoint, but not to put words in my mouth. Please review and be absolutely certain that's not what you're doing here. Neither Hyde nor Poyer were consistent starters on their prior teams, much less "all pro", when they signed here. My point here, is that it's not a case of our options being to either resign Poyer or draft a safety high. It's possible to sign players in FA or even trade late round picks for a player, and develop them.
  8. I believe Beane may consider the changes on DL to involve speed upgrades. Miller is for sure faster than Hughes or Addison. We'll see about the DTs, though at one point BigJ9797 faster than Vernon Butler
  9. Something else needs to be taken into account, which is: are these TE all true all-around TE, or are they essentially large WR who are seldom asked to block in-line or even downfield? It's my understanding the answer to that is "no" You'd have to ask someone else that question
  10. I looked it up and Poyer signed a 2 year extension in 2020, prior to the last year of his contract in Buffalo. https://www.buffalorumblings.com/2020/3/18/21184871/full-contract-details-of-jordan-poyers-2020-buffalo-bills-extension He restructured in 2021. So yes, it typically does make sense for a player and team to start talking about a new contract prior to the last year of their existing contract. Rachel Bush got salty when the Bills signed Von Miller: https://www.totalprosports.com/2022/03/16/rachel-bush-seems-bitter-about-von-miller-stealing-he-husband-jordan-poyers-spotlight-in-buffalo-pics/
  11. Just a little note that the Bills picked up both Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer when their original teams didn't want them. So there is a third option, which is inking under-rated talent from another team.
  12. Spotrac shows him as signing in 2020, but for a 2 year deal that expires AFTER this season, so...unsure I think he signed in 2020 for 3 years. Poyer is currently the 5th (or 6th) highest cap hit on the Bills at $10.78M, with only Tre' White, Josh Allen, Tremaine Edmunds, and Dion Dawkins (and presumably Diggs) paid more. He only has $1M signing bonus, so most of that is new cash.
  13. Quick: Take that nameplate off and re-name it to break the curse https://buffalowdown.com/2014/05/15/buffalo-bills-history-wore-number-21/ Then maybe the solution is ....to improve the front 7 (which the Bills have clearly tried to do) because when crunch time has come, maybe safety play can not overcome deficits up front. Poyer is currently the 13th highest paid safety in AAV at $9.75M. He will actually take home Players being paid more include Jamal Adams, Harrison Smith, Justin Simmons, Budda Baker, Eddie Jackson, Kevin Byard, Marcus Williams, Quandre Diggs, Jessie Bates, John Johnson, Jessie Bates, John Johnson, DJ Reed, and Justin Reid. Most of them signed more recently, and are in their mid to late 20s. Harrison Smith was the oldest, being 32 when he signed. Beane has been very clear that he signs contracts when it's time, and does not negotiate in the public sphere. If Rachel Bush thinks she'll aid Jordan Poyer's contract negotiations by squawking on twitter, I believe she is mistaken. What then, is the long term recipe for success? Pay Tom Brady under the table and cheat?
  14. Poyer's former agent was Zeke Sandhu (Elite Athlete Management) Sandhu's client list includes Christian Kirk, Danielle Hunter, Byron Murphy, Branden Bolden, and Kalen Ballage. The first two guys on that list just got some pretty big contracts.
  15. https://askinglot.com/who-does-drew-rosenhaus-represent-in-the-nfl "Notable players Rosenhaus has represented or represents include Antonio Brown, Chad Johnson, Frank Gore, Rex Grossman, Rob Gronkowski, LeSean McCoy, Jimmy Smith, Plaxico Burress, Terrell Owens, Tyreek Hill, and Warren Sapp." IIRC he had Johnny Manziel as well
  16. LOL at his stuff about how Josh Allen has a "Diggs shrine" in his locker and Diggs has a "Josh Allen shrine" in his. And the part about how Josh jumped on trade talk to Dallas: "No."
  17. This is actually pretty simple. It had to do with the fact that working adults and school kids who were spending 9-12 hrs a day, 5 days a week, wiping their butts with institutionally packaged paper, were now at home 24/7 looking for home-sized rolls to do the deed. Manufacturers could and did change around production to meet the demand for different packaging of their product, but it took some time.
  18. If you have excess food in your basement you're not going to use, chances are near certainty there's a food pantry near you that can help you out with that thing.
  19. The major problem I have with this is lack of matched cohort. The joke is that NFL stands for "Not For Long"; the average overall career length in the NFL is 3.3 years, with 2.9 being the average for CB, 2.8 for WR, and 2.5 for RBs https://www.statista.com/statistics/240102/average-player-career-length-in-the-national-football-league/ So given that, the right comparator likely isn't to players in other leagues post-injury, but to uninjured players at that position. The other big differentiators are probably skill and contract guarantees. When a player has guaranteed money, or a high draft pick invested in him, or has been a star prior to his injury, being given time to get back to his old form is more likely. The average player on a non-guaranteed contract is fighting for a "hat" every year. If he tears an ACL, the team he's been playing in is obligated to pay for his medical care and rehab, but there's probably someone of similar skill level with two good knees in the draft or kicking around as a FA, so the injured player's chance of RTP are poor. That may reflect a team's lack of interest in "taking a chance" on an injured player who may play at a lesser level his first year back, vs. a player of similar traits who is uninjured. Consider Harrison Phillips. The Bills had a 3rd round pick invested in him and few options on the roster at 1TDT when Star opted out in 2020. He was NOT the same player when he initially returned from his ACL. He was a "healthy scratch" for 4 games, and down to 23-33% of the snaps after that, until the very end of the season, and the Bills did move on from him this season, but they were patient with him in 2020 and 2021. OTOH for a player like Justin Zimmer who was a low-level FA barely hanging on to the team with a 1 year contract in 2021, his ACL may well have ended his career.
  20. Poyer has been playing like his jock is on fire and tackling will put it out. Edmunds has McDermott answering "yes" when the question is "do you need more splash plays from ...."
  21. From various things Beane and McDermott have said, I think they believe that Von Miller will have the same energizing effect on the DL that Diggs had on the WR room. Diggs trade happened. In 2020, you could see a big jump across the entire WR room. Guys who would catch a ball on the sideline and step out (Brown in HOU playoff game) were suddenly dragging their toes and staying in. Guys who wouldn't jump for a ball or come back, started doing so. Routes got crisper. I'm sure Chad Hall had an impact, but from what the players have said, seems pretty clear a lot of the impact was Diggs, leading by example, pointing things out on film, etc. That's what we got by trading for Diggs vs. keeping the pick and drafting a rookie. We have 3 young DE who are, so far, not "all that and a bag of chips". By all reports, Miller is not only a beast in trainng, he's a Bruce Smith-like student of the game, I think Beane and McD hope that he will raise the level on the DL, in a way that we simply weren't able to get from the guys who were here (Addison, Hughes, Obada)
