Rumor: Some in Bills org want to move on from Dareus
thebandit27 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Green went 4 to Cincinnati. Actually, all of the non-QBs taken in the top 12 have been really good football players: 1. Cam Newton 2. Von Miller 3. Dareus 4. AJ Green 5. Patrick Peterson 6. Julio Jones 7. Aldon Smith 8. Jake Locker 9. Tyron Smith 10. Blaine Gabbert 11. JJ Watt 12. Christian Ponder -
Rumor: Some in Bills org want to move on from Dareus

The Dareus contract guarantee structure is easily my biggest beef with Whaley. Even though I accept that Overdorf is probably most directly responsible for the de facto structure of the contract, there's no way that it gets okayed without Whaley's eyes on it. -

2017 NFL Mock Drafts & Top Prospects

I don't know, but I'm right there with you. I currently appear to have been 100% wrong on Dak. I would bet that some of it is not just what they've been coached to do in college, but also how they've been coached. Dak played in a system that appears to have relied more heavily on pre-snap reads to reduce his post-snap reads, whereas I think Tyrod may have been able to rely on his athleticism in college in order to buy time to get through his progressions. That's just a guess at this point. I hear you...I've been burned on the resume thing too though--EJ had a resume. He was 4-0 in bowl games! Maybe I'm just not great at judging QBs -

Blokes was all over Prescott, whereas I felt he was the kind of guy that had a LOT of work to do. I never saw him as a great passer, but he's been nothing short of that through 9 games. For me personally, it probably opens me eyes to trying as hard as possible to figure out what a kid is able to determine pre-snap as much as what he's able to do between the snap and the time the ball is released. -
Indeed--it helps if you've dug into Rex's playbook (still not sure how that got out ), but it's still tough to know for sure.
-
True--I think the part that many folks are missing is the bold statement. It's really hard to know who's doing what without looking at all-22.
-
You shouldn't have to keep telling people this...if folks are making the effort to study the all-22 (which IMO is a necessity if you're going to evaluate CB play), then they'd already know.

Rex: Darby was benched because he was sick

Rex isn't wrong on this one--Darby has really struggled. -

Speaking of safeties, anyone else buying on Dante Barnett? -

I must see more of Kansas State's Dante Barnett... Really like this kid as a potential fit at safety. -
Wait, you haven't used NE and aren't picking them at home against an NFC team that just played a very physical game on a Monday night and will travel 3,000 miles for what will feel like a 9 a.m. game to them? Pick the Pats.

Positional Needs For DraftTek - Astro

I love that list because I see several chances for compensatory picks. Gilmore, Woods, LorAx, and Mills will probably all get starting money on the open market. I say bring back Zach, Corey White, Hunter, and Douzable, sign a cap casualty at safety (i.e. Bethea) and CB (maybe DRC or Shields), and use one FA signing to bring in a veteran backup QB. That should leave a significant enough net loss to garner compensatory picks, with Gilmore's deal probably being in the 3rd round range. Roster will still be in solid shape, with the only noticeable holes being at WR and safety (assuming either Henderson or Kouandjio can compete to start), both of which can be addressed in the top 2 rounds of the draft. -
Why are players still confused on defense?

I don't know why, but seeing your handle and flag today makes me want golumpki--I think I'm going to make golumpki for dinner. -
He was a feel-good story for many folks, but the reality is that he simply wasn't that good. He was better than the other guy (which isn't saying much), and because he was able to make enough plays within a run-first offense, the team won games. Most of the credit for his record as a starter here, however, should go to a defense that finished in the top 3 in the NFL in both seasons here. I wasn't a fan of him personally, as I don't think he was a good teammate, but moreover, he simply wasn't a very good QB.

Adios credibility -
Yep--he's the exact comparison that I make to Watkins....though playing with EJ, Orton, and Tyrod in a run-heavy offense is markedly different than playing with Matt Ryan in a more balanced attack. Oh I don't deny at all that injuries have been an issue--I have a hard time letting the "he's never available" argument slide.
-
Just a friendly word: punctuation. As to Sammy, this is the first season during which he's missed significant time. He started 29 of his first 32 games in the NFL. The foot injury is an issue, but to say that he's never available is simply incorrect.

That's exactly where I am as well--JuJu is the best compliment to what Tyrod and the offense like to do. Need to dig more into the WR class, since I haven't even gotten to guys like Zay Jones or Isaiah Ford yet. -

When have you ever seen me say that? I'll await a link Until then, I very much appreciate not being dragged into your ongoing debate over this with another poster. -
The really, really good news is..............

I can't say that he deserved it...he had 4 chances from inside the 15 and couldn't get it done. Now, I'm not pinning the loss on him; I'm only saying that "he deserved the comeback" is different (IMO) than saying "I think he played well enough that they should have won with better defensive play". The first statement I can't get behind; the second I can. Know what I mean?
