  1. We should continue to bag on Gilmore and ignore how bad Darby has been
  2. The 2010 Packers may have only finished 10-6, but I feel that they were a truly great team. Top 10 in both passing offense and passing defense, and beat a very good Steelers team in the Super Bowl. They followed it up by going 15-1 in the following regular season, before being upset by the eventual Super Bowl Champion Giants in the Divisional Round.
  3. I think there's a very good chance that Revis is let go--they can create $14M in cap space by doing so...that'd actually be a smart move to get him in here as a free safety. He knows the defense, can probably make a decent transition, and wouldn't count against the compensatory formula. I do worry that he'd want significant money, even as a safety, which will be tough to accommodate given that the team won't get much cap relief from the (presumed) Aaron Williams retirement.
  4. Isn't this the kind of thing that we (or at least I) thought Bowles' team was above? http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/11/07/report-jets-wilkerson-richardson-miss-meetings-all-the-time/ I'm (seriously) shocked at this...
  5. This type of response is why I like you
  6. One Does Not Do The Job That You're Giving Him Credit For You really don't comprehend that, do you?
  7. We're comparing the job that two people have done assembling rosters. How is that irrelevant?
  8. Good grief. We're comparing a guy with administrative responsibilities to a guy with the definitive role in personnel. Whaley is the chief personnel guy for Buffalo, and McClay plays that role for Dallas. I swear sometimes I think I'm being put on. First off, Fergy is needling with the OP. It's a post that's done in jest. However, since Dallas has performed the role of roster assembly in a superior fashion to Buffalo over the past half decade, I felt it was worth discussing the job that McClay and his staff have done in accumulating talent. I then commented that the Joneses deserve credit for getting out of the way and letting the football people do their jobs. Somehow, a few of you are offended by this, and have somehow managed to morph my argument into some oddly phrased defense of Whaley...or perhaps an equally oddly phrased criticism of the Joneses. Either way, if my point isn't clear by now, then I fear it never will be. Oh well.
  9. Um, at what point did I say that McClay hasn't outperformed our GM? There's no way you read my last post if you're asking whether or not I believe that jones was making decisions before McClay came along.
  10. I've quoted just as many sources that you've ignored, so glass houses and such. https://www.google.com/amp/s/insidethestar.com/cowboys-headlines/dallas-cowboys-win-big-with-will-mcclay-declining-lions-gm-invite/amp/ "McClay has been the guy behind all of the decisions." Ignore the obvious if you so choose, but if you're daring enough, ask yourself this: what makes more sense--the owner is making picks, or the personnel guy is making picks? I have to admit that I don't expect much in regard to that question--you have something of a history in assuming that non-football guys make the football decisions You've also managed to ignore the entire crux of the discussion, which is that Jones should get credit for stepping back and letting the football guys make decisions. That you have somehow managed to devise from that idea that I don't know or understand the history of the Cowboys' personnel hierarchy is amazing. Anyone that follows the game knows that Jones felt he didn't need a personnel guy post-Gil Brandt, but at least he gets it now.
  11. Do you mean "some posts" or some of MY posts? https://www.google.com/amp/www.bloggingtheboys.com/platform/amp/2014/1/14/5305218/a-deeper-look-at-will-mcclay-role-with-the-dallas-cowboys-jerry-jones-jason-garrett "Last week, it was announced that Will McClay would now be the person in charge of preparing the draft board." Doesn't get any clearer than that. If you're going to fall back on "Jones has final say", well, I'll only ask this: Do you really believe that Stephen is making his own calls on players, and not sticking to the board, and that's why they've been more successful since McClay was placed in charge of the board? The answer is obvious. https://www.google.com/amp/s/insidethestar.com/cowboys-headlines/dallas-cowboys-win-big-with-will-mcclay-declining-lions-gm-invite/amp/ "McClay has been the guy behind all of the decisions."
  12. No, that was Sean Payton. He was an Eastern Illinois alum, and remained close with the program, so he convinced the organization to give Romo a shot.
  13. Even at that, Stephen takes his cues from McClay and the scouting staff
  14. PS- there's a pretty clear quote in the article below: http://www.espn.com/blog/dallas-cowboys/post/_/id/4750668/scouting-director-will-mcclay-refuses-to-shrink-when-jerry-jones-challenges-him "He's about to lead his third draft". "Lead" - take that however you'd like
  15. Nice passive aggressive call out! Because they have no GM in title, you (notice I said "you" and not "some people"...see how that works? ) may choose to interpret that as the Joneses making personnel decisions (frankly that wouldn't surprise me given some of the opinions you've taken with regard to who makes personnel decisions on this team ). But that's not what they're doing, and nowhere in that link does it say that Stephen made the decision on Martin. It's widely known around the league that McClay is the head of personnel. It's his staff that's providing the scouting reports, and his staff that's making the recommendations. As I said earlier, the best compliment we can pay to Stephen Jones is that he's gotten out of the way and let the football guys do their jobs.
  16. No. Stephen Jones is the person that convinced Jerry to step back and let the football people operate. Will McClay is the mastermind. http://www.espn.com/blog/dallas-cowboys/post/_/id/4750668/scouting-director-will-mcclay-refuses-to-shrink-when-jerry-jones-challenges-him
  17. Stephen isn't making picks either...Will McClay is the guy behind their football department. Stephen is simply allowing the football people to do their jobs.
  18. Will McClay, their Director of Player Personnel, is the guy that is drafting players. Not Jerry. If Jerry were in charge, they'd have drafted Manziel.
  19. ^this...Provided Zach will take $5Mish AAV
  20. First off, if you haven't seen The Raid: Redemption or The Raid 2, go see them...now. After that, feel free to get really excited about Gareth Evans' upcoming releases: Apostle and (reportedly) a 3rd Raid installment. https://youtu.be/pa5AaZ1RFHg?t=28m Also, if you have seen the Raid films, you'll be excited to see that the choreographers are teaming up with the "Mo Brothers" (who directed Macabre) to bring 2 feature films staring Raid stars Iko Uwais and Yayan Ruhian. The first is Headshot, an Indonesian-only release that should hit DVD in the US by the end of the year: http://www.indiewire.com/2016/09/headshot-trailer-the-raid-iko-uwais-mo-brothers-tiff-2016-toronto-film-festival-1201725773/ The second film is a resurrection of The Night Comes for Us, and stars Ruhian: http://www.manlymovie.net/2016/09/the-night-comes-for-us-is-happening-again.html
  21. I'm with you on this thought process. I think safety makes sense in the 1st, where you might be able to get a guy like Adams or Hooker. I'd probably go WR in the 2nd if a guy like Dupree, Kupp, or JuJu is around, then maybe come back in the 3rd and take my boy Bisno to compete at RT. I still think that they may be best served by picking up a potential cap casualty like Shields, Flowers, or DRC to replace Gilmore since it won't count against the compensatory formula. That way they can concentrate on a veteran safety and backup QB in FA and still have a strong net loss based on the likely FA signings of guys like EJ, Woods, Goodwin, Mills, Bryant, LorAx, and Gilmore (assuming they keep Zach, Douzable, and Hunter)
  22. Right, that's why they were allowed to clutch and grab their way to two Super Bowl appearances and 1 victory.
