So if we end up 9-7 and lose a tie-breaker...
May Day 10 replied to JÂy RÛßeÒ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Gotta agree with Cincy and Panthers. Those 2 games were there for the taking. Jets game feels like a legit loss. The Jets have fought all season and came into that game with a lot of fire. Punched the Bills in the mouth and they didnt have a chance. -
Has officiating ever NOT been a problem?
May Day 10 replied to Steptide's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
IMO the officiating is quite good. When we scrutinize every inch and slow things down to the microsecond.... its impossible to look good 100% of the time. We saw what can happen with the replacement refs. We had bad calls, rules were misunderstood/not enforced correctly, and quite rapidly the fabric of the game was being torn. After about 4 weeks games were all devolving into numerous skirmishes, large scale arguments with the refs, etc. -

Star Wars Episode VIII - The Last Jedi thread

I thought it was a pretty poor Star Wars movie to be honest. Im not that hard to please either, I think people are way too harsh on I-III. I think I still need to let it settle in. I didn't hate it, and really liked and enjoyed certain things. Lots I didn't like, some sloppiness/laziness in writing IMO. I really am not at a point where I'm in huge anticipation of IX. -
Temporary.... things could have been very different if Mr Wilson passed away, say in 2017 or 2018... MLSE, does not have the liquid assets to compete with Terry Pegula. whether Jon Bon Jovi was the front, back, or side. Rogers also has their money tied up with various family matters after the old man's death. They also blew a ton of money on the NHL contracts and are paying for it. I do remember other interests rumored to come in and kick the tires.... an individual or group from Chicago comes to my memory. It seems they were likely scared off by the NRA with the lease. Combined with a relocation fee, and the price of building a stadium (presumably in Toronto).... it would make a $2 Million bid into $4 million very quickly. It was all timing. The paint wasn't even dry on the RWS renovations when all this came into action. Also, the emergence of the Pegula family with their liquid wealth and commitment to the city was a monster factor. I truly appreciate Ralph Wilson and his family for creating the Bills and maintaining them through more than 50 years. Ralph Wilson is the father of the Buffalo Bills. However, I do not subscribe to the thought that he had some sort of master plan to screw the NFL and force the team to remain in Buffalo. If that were the case, he would have fought for a 50 year NRA and the state/county would have gladly accepted. The State/County side were the ones pushing for the $ penalty for breaking the lease and length of time. The Bills didnt have too much leverage, as no way Wilson was going to sell the team at that point and take the tax hits.

"Colts-Bills was the game of the year" - NFL in 90
May Day 10 replied to BigDingus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I thought it was refreshing and unique. Wasnt over officiated. Every inch wasnt contested and disputed via coaches challenges and replays. It was a throwback. Some of the most extreme conditions ever. It was a spectacle. Obviously, nobody wants or expects that to happen every week... and most likely it will never happen again -
I prefer outside. I like attending games outside... and also the aesthetics on TV. The variability, etc. I also understand the points that pro-dome people have. That is a valid opinion as well. There is no right/wrong or absolutes. It is based primarily on personal opinion. What matters is what Pegula and the financials determine is the best course. I think the cheapest/easiest course of action is in place. Parking, routes out of the stadium/area really arent that bad, doesnt take up potentially valuable downtown space, etc. However, I think Pegula is likely looking at any way feasible for downtown to link his sports and entertainment empire. If I had to bet, I would say most likely some sort of Ford Field style dome to the South-East area of the arena/cobblestone/downtown. Style of the stadium, my preference, maybe a happy medium. Out of the snow belt would help... also, some sort of roof structure would be nice. Whether its dome or outdoor, I really hope they concentrate on the fan experience. Amplify sound. Great sight lines, etc. I think the thing should be geared 95% toward football watching (as that is what we do here). An outdoor stadium, enclosed like 50% by roof, maybe something similar in ways to Centurylink Field in Seattle would be wonderful. Maybe it would be possible to make an outdoor stadium convert to an amphitheater for the offseason that would be able to host many concerts over the summer. Run Darien lake out of business and get bodies downtown.
-
IMO, the 'other uses' for a dome is overstated. There really aren't many events that a dome would service that the combination of the arena and outdoor football stadium can handle. Pop an amphitheater downtown and that would cover about everything. MAYBE Buffalo would someday get a final 4, but even that is a long shot. We aren't getting those high stakes college games that Atlanta, Dallas, and even Indy grab.

people should also be reminded that this is an example of the extreme. i dont think anybody is advocating for this to be a weekly happening. in 35 years of watching games in orchard park, i have never seen anything like this. it was a novelty, a rare occurrence. it almost reminded me of an nhl outdoor game. the players looked like kids playing backyard winter football. few flags, no replays, every inch couldnt be nitpicked... it was fun to watch. ill remember it as long as im around
-
i hate color rush and "cutesy" jerseys (thanks oregon)... but i thought the red was a great contrast in the snow
-
i thought it was a great game. i have been trading texts with friends all day who were glued to their tvs. some of these friends usually couldnt care less about the bills
-
not me. i love it. uncommon game. i wish i couldve made it today

you are correct. mr wilsons death before the paint was dry on the renovations was crazy timing. a bit closer to that 28 million dollar buyout and it could have been iffy. without pegula it is very iffy, if not impossible. mlse/jon bon jovi doesnt have the liquid capital to compete on purchase price with pegula. add in a relication fee, 400 million lease buyout (or 7 seasons of lame duck games in front of angry demonstrative fans). also building costs. it was not feasible. an alliance with the rogers family might have made it possible... but after ted's death the family splintered a bit, they made a foolish bid for the nhl, and a lot of the money is tied up i do give credit to mr wilson for starting the bills and having them rooted in buffalo for over 50 years.

Im out. Part of it is buying currency with the wife so I can attend more WJC games. I know its not over.... but we have seen this movie play out over and over again with the Bills. For this season, it doesn't feel different (although I am encouraged for the future).

PTI: 1 game suspension NOT enough
May Day 10 replied to CanadianFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
the way the bills can make gronk pay is to be extra focused and channel all their energy into beating them and spoiling their home AFC Championship game.... followed by beating them next season. Silly football fights never seem to hurt anybody -
I agree with this. It seems like an easy decision. Looking at comments sections, even Pats fans agree that it was an awful thing. Such a cowardly and dangerous attack. The decision to suspend is easy, in light of all the factors (including the score/time of the game)... the hard part will be pushing it to more than 1 game (which IMO should be 3-4 games). The NFL will likely come up short.

Knowing a setlist before a concert, good or bad?
May Day 10 replied to Just Jack's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I would say very bad. The more you are 'into' a band, the worse it is. Especially if they are a band who mixes up their sets -
he deserves it. he got a real crap deal and it was undeserved. something he loved got ruined. he handled the whole thing with incredible class and dignity.

Official Schopp and Bulldog Thread
May Day 10 replied to Ol Dirty B's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
People always bag on various figures in the Buffalo sports media because they are too 'negative'. What do you expect? Just graze the history of the Bills. Had a blip in the late 80s and early-mid 90s... but other than that, one of the worst NFL franchises historically. To add to the Bills' struggles of 17+ seasons, The Sabres possess the 2nd longest drought in the NHL, and are embroiled in what is by far the worst era of the franchise. Trust me. These guys want these teams to do well. They are tired of the same cycle, same talking points, same callers, same results. Its groundhog day and it has to be very tough to create content and make it interesting with the state of things. The program directors, at least for the afternoon show force them to focus on Bills and Sabres only. That's tough. Schopp's main base of knowledge are baseball, tennis, and he loves analytical stuff, especially when it comes to odds-making. And, to be honest, they arent really that negative, and WGR in particular has definitely softened the tone since they became the Bills' broadcast home. -
Should the Pegulas Cash Out?
May Day 10 replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
nobody really knows. it was all sealed via ndc. the facts are .. they hired him to run the sabres. then he was vanquished just 2 or 3 months later. they hired him with a lot of fanfare... and publicly he was saying all the right things. his philosophies on how to build the organization were music to my ears. and he had craig patrick coaching him up. it appears that his authority was limited when the chips were down at the trade deadline. there was a major systemic disagreement and he bounced. pegula, fearing the public backlash of a divide with a nearly flawless and universally popular spprts figure, likely bought his silence on the matter. imo, this, along with some of pegulas public statements since reeks of pegula meddling. there has been a pettiness on the sabres side too. lafontaine is scrubbed from highlight videos they show. they had a bobblehead voting process. i and a cpuple others voted a lot for lafontaine. he didnt "make" the final 10. a winner like pat kaleta was there... and housley. -
Should the Pegulas Cash Out?
May Day 10 replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
yeah. i get frustrated at their decisions and vent sometimes... especially when it comes to the sabres. a degree of criticism is warranted. there have been systemic errors and bungling. i also feel that organization comes up short in a number of areas, not just on the ice.... but there is no local owner who would/could own the teams. pegula is willing to lose money and pour it into the team. he also is unlikely to hold a loaded gun on us when it comes to stadium plans and funding. he is dedicated to winning. he is committed to the area and has heirs. and he and his family is very likeable. i want them to succeed. -
