Bruce Smith vs. Lawrence Taylor...who was better?
metzelaars_lives replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good stuff. I know one thing and I've been saying this for a while now, Jerry Rice is the best player in NFL history very simply because you can debate every other position all day long but you can't debate WR for one second. -
Bruce Smith vs. Lawrence Taylor...who was better?
metzelaars_lives replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Seriously though, I voted Taylor for reasons that have already been mentioned here. Bruce is great, but Taylor redefined his position. Forget about Bruce vs. LT for a second, they played two completely different positions. I'm gonna throw a curveball here though- I'm 30, so I saw LT as a kid but couldn't really analyze his game the way I could a player now. Here's my question-was LT really any better than Ray Lewis in his prime (circa 2001 or so). I know most people will be quick to say of course he was, but Ray Lewis was absolutely insane for about a 3-4 year span and I can't really imagine a player being that much better than he was. Not to mention, like motley crue, he's still kickin ass. -
Where Does Vince Young Rank...........
metzelaars_lives replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No I'm 100% serious. I saw him play the Bills in a preseason game I think in 2007? and the guy looked like he was about to become the Michael Jordan of the NFL. Talent does not necessarily = results. He has shown flashes of brilliance ie. the Bills game in 2006 when he single-handedly beat the Bills in OP. Yes, he has struggled as of late, but to put him in the same sentence as those other jabronis is preposterous. -
Where Does Vince Young Rank...........
metzelaars_lives replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Horrendous post. Is this what TSW has come to in the offseason? Vince Young was a pro-bowler in 2006 and if you recall, in that game against the Bills, was absolutely insane. By the end of 2006 and for parts of 2007, he literally looked like a man amongst boys. The guy has once in a generation talent, but clearly has some sort of mental issues. But mentioning him in the same post as Ryan Leaf, Mike Williams and Charles Rogers?!? Come on man. -
I don't know why everybody thinks the Broncos have such loyal fans. I live in Denver and I went to the Bills-Broncos game out here and in a game where the Broncos could clinch the division with a win, there were 10,000 no shows and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. The tailgaters are the weakest I've ever seen (with the possible exception of Seattle), it is the most wine and cheese football crowd in the league (I've heard Redskins games are similar). Don't let the Mile High/Elway/1980's thing fool you, those days are LONG gone, any real Broncos fan would tell you the same thing. After serious discussions with Kenny and other fellow traveling Bills fans, the consensus is that the Packers, Chiefs and Bills are the holy trinity of NFL fans.

Top 10 Tecmo Super Bowl teams
metzelaars_lives replied to metzelaars_lives's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Two things, first off, if you let QB Eagles score on you every play, you're an amateur. Yes, he's damn good (that's why I have the Eagles ranked 4th), but by no means unstoppable. The cliche response when discussing Tecmo is, "oh Bo Jackson is sick" or "Cunningham is unstoppable," but don't forget there is a lot of defensive strategy going on in a good game of man vs man Tecmo Super Bowl. And second, yes, the NT dive is literally unstoppable and is a glitch in the game. Should never be used between two consenting players. -
Joe Montana Talking Football vs TSB

Nah man, you could get in a scrum in Ice Hockey for NES. Didn't happen often, but I remember the whole team would get involved and dudes would get tossed out of the pile... -

Wow QB Bills, you're so close. And I would agree, VIDEO game, not just sports video game. But I would have to go with NHL '96, that's when the game hit it's ultimate peak. -QB Browns -

And Chris Miller was the QB of the Falcons. He sucked. The answer is, and I did not lok this up, Jeff Feagles, John Carney AND Junior Seau. -

2 things- if my list sucks then why did you pick the exact same 10 teams as me? And second, there is no way, even if you use the 49ers and play the Patriots against the computer, there is no way you scored 100 points in one game. I call BS on that one. And dude, the Chiefs are not better than the Giants and the Niners, have you been smoking with Dr. Dankenstein? -

Obviously your cousins weren't very good at Tecmo Super Bowl. -

You guys are oversimplifying Tecmo Super Bowl. Bo Jackson is the best running back in the game, bar none. And Marcus Allen is probably top 5. However, if I pick a running play every time and force you to beat me with one of the most inept passing games in the game, I'm going to beat you every time. Now if you're playing against the computer you may have a point. -

Move the Bills and Oilers to 3 & 4 as they had both good QB, WR's and RB. If the Eagles had ONE good WR then they would be number 3 but they don't. Oilers had FOUR GREAT WR's and a great QB and a decent RB (who fumbled every other caryy but hey!) Redskins would be a top 3 team if QB didn't suck so bad; ditto for the Raiders! yeah man, Jay Schroeder blows. You gotta use Beuerlein if you're gonna be the Raiders. -
I got 1. 49ers 2. Giants 3. Dolphins 4. Eagles 5. Bills 6. Oilers 7. Raiders 8. Redskins 9. Chiefs 10. Bears also, the Bucs are not that bad. Vinny can loft em to Mark Carrier and Wayne Haddix is one of the fastest DB's in the game.
-
So we've had a pretty poor 9-year stretch (mind you, aside from 2001 we never really bottomed out and absolutely sucked). Do you have any idea how bad the Giants sucked in the 1970's? They must be a horrible franchise. How about the Colts and the Patriots in the late 80's/early 90's? Have you ever played Tecmo Super Bowl? Those are the two worst teams in the game. Must be horrible franchises...

NE - SuperBowl loss. NYJ - playoff loss Dallas - Playoff loss. Not to mention the team was beginning to crumble his last year there. to me Wade has seemed to somehow keep them competitive. That's a weak spin right there- getting that New England team to the Super Bowl was an accomplishment in and of itself and the Jets went to the AFC Championship after they were 1-15 two years earlier (right? something like that). Not to mention, you conveniently left off the Dolphins turnaround last season. Bill Parcells knows what he's doing, believe me.

Derek Fine blurb in da snooze

You don't think if Schouman was on the Patriots or the Broncos or something they couldn't turn him into a productive tight end? Come one man, it's the SYSTEM! -
Derek Fine blurb in da snooze

Tailgated right next to Fine's entire family and friends in KC. Nicest people in the world. His bro said that Fine says Marshawn was the nicest and most welcoming player when he first showed up at 1BD. Definitely pulling for the dude after hangin with his family. Almost made out with this chick that was friends with the family but I didn't attempt because she had two kids. -
Collinsworth talks to you with the assumption that you already have some knowledge of football and shares information that is actually insightful to someone that knows what's going on in the game. As opposed to the vast majority of analysts who talk to you like you've never watched a game before. Why, who do you like?
-
I've been saying it for years, Collinsworth is the best in the business.

I guess we'll see. Champ Bailey was signed several years ago, salaries are even more inflated now. I'm tellin you he's going to command around $7 million. And you can say, "what if injuries occur?" for any position. Even if he's worth $5 million, which he isn't, I'd rather see them wing it with McKelvin/Youboty/Corner/late round draft pick and spend $5 million on a more pressing need.
-
I've said it before on here and I'll say it again. Jabari Greer is a nice player. The fact that he had two ducks thrown right in his hands this past season that he returned for TD's will earn him an extra $2 mill this season. I've talked to several inside NFL sources who say that he's going to be worth around $7 mill this season. McGee is a solid corner. With any pass rush whatsoever he could be an elite corner. McKelvin was drafted 11th overall. He is not going to be a nickel corner again this season. Before he got hurt, Youboty looked like he could've been better than any of them! Not to mention, Corner looks like a keeper as well. If there is any position on the entire roster where we're in good shape, it's CB. Why then, with all these pressing needs on both sides of the ball, would we spend around $7 million to make sure we have five good CB's. It doesn't make any sense at all and this is why you're not getting a job with the Buffalo Bills. Now send my response to the Bills and get me a job!

Bills Best QB Since Kelly
metzelaars_lives replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Quite possibly. Or it may have been the following offseason, when he was done with football for good. I know who Lonnie Johnson is- he painted his finger nails and I've seen him at the Tudor Lounge hangin with Rueben. He sucked. Another good question would be, who would you take- Digiorgio in '07 or Posluszny in '08? My vote would be for Digiorgio.
