  1. And of course, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Cornell's spectacular course, Robert Trent Jones GC. It's pretty expensive, but the student discount knocks it down to reasonable levels, so I've gotten to play it several times. The 2nd hole was host to my hole in one.
  2. Wait, are you saying you own Ironwood? I love that place.
  3. From the wikipedia article... "Pine Valley Golf Club is a highly exclusive club. Male-only membership is by invitation from the board of directors only. There are about 1,300 members spread throughout the world, and the list is a closely guarded secret. [2] The only way a guest is allowed into the club is if they are invited by a member and accompanied by one. Women are permitted to play the course on Sunday afternoons." This type of elitist snobbery is my least favorite part of the game.
  4. So aside from the great courses we've played around the world, what are your favorite courses in WNY? My "home courses" (the ones I'm most familiar with) are Dande Farms CC and Elma Meadows. Probably the most fun I've ever had was at the Links at Ivy Ridge. Buffalo Tournament Club is a promising course, but it's still relatively new and underfinished (fairways are wispy and bare is the biggest problem).
  5. Yeah, but not everybody's Tom Watson. These guys hit the wall in terms of being competitive at a certain age. I'm not saying you're necessarily wrong, but Occum's Razor here is that Vijay is just getting old.
  6. Vijay's almost 50.
  7. I love it when guys on this board go for the "I told you so" just because a rookie we "should have drafted" is getting complimented by reporters during training camp.
  8. DP Dough is delicious.
  9. Because he's arguably the most dominant golfer of all time and he's playing horribly.
  10. Relating my own experiences as a golfer, the game is indeed more mental than anything. Granted, I'm a 10-handicap playing on cheap public courses, but a lot of the same stuff still applies. The physical portion of the game can use tweaks from time to time, but it's largely muscle memory. Put simply, if you're able to truly clear your mind and have confidence that you can land your 7-iron within 15 feet of the pin, you'll succeed more often than not. Have confidence that you've judged the ensuing putt correctly and it has a pretty good chance of going in...that's how you score birdies and pars instead of bogies.
  11. Brooks. Trust me.
  12. I remember the same game, and him saying that. But how can we judge him when the sound byte was so out of context? We don't know who exactly he was talking to, or what that person did to illicit the response?
  13. How do you figure? Until further notice, the Redskins are the bottom feeder in their division just like us.
  14. It's true that children shouldn't be taken away for having a certain name. But with the nature of how screwed up the names are, I'd be shocked if there wasn't some other sort of abuse going on.
  15. In general, I'd say that this board responds to the team's record. If the team is doing poorly, we (collectively) will attach ourselves to any theory in order to demonize the players and coaching staff. The opposite is true when the team is winning. Remember how much everybody was in love with Jauron and Trent when we started 5-1 two seasons ago? The same exact qualities for which we now hate them, we adored them for back then. Let's take Whitner as an example. Remember when he was the gym class hero because he tackled that Raider in the end zone, and we won the game to go 3-0? If he did the same thing while the team's record is 0-3, then he's an immature douche, right?
  16. I never minded DJ's persona. Plenty of milque-toast coaches have won Superbowls. DJ just wasn't a good football coach.
  17. There's a line (and not a very thin one either) between a winning attitude and sheer douchebaggery. I'll take quiet steely confidence over all the showmanship, but that's just me.
  18. Ugggh, I guess Middle Men might be worth a shot. Other than that...when does the next Batman come out?
  19. Aww man, now we have to find something new to panic about.
  20. Good luck with that. Swimming is great because it exercises every major muscle of your body, but it's low impact to your joints. I'm 6' 1" 213 right now, but I was about 45 pounds heavier at the beginning of the year. Swimming has been a huge part of it this summer (GREAT outdoor swimming in Ithaca), on top of walking/jogging/running/hiking about 3-5 miles a day.
