I honestly don't think that the Jets are as bad as their record. To be fair, they've already played the same teams we're looking at in our December to dread. That said they HAVE lost to two teams we best. There's a reason they're 1-6. I see this being a close game but if there ever was a time to bring back the hurry up West Coast offense we were promised this is it.

CJ out for season - Jackson 4 weeks
WhitewalkerInPhilly replied to Harryhood280's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Last I heard Freddie was 2-4 weeks and was looking to be back for KC -
I don't think anyone looked at our injured RB situation last year and said "Man, it would be a bad idea to have a quality insurance policy at RB considering how much we run it" FJ has been shocking good so far, but this looks like exactly the doomsday scenario that we are prepped to deal with. I'm curious to see what Brown can do for you.

I consider this a mark of how this season is different than the ones we've recently seen. We have gotten so used to blowing games at the last moment. Normally WE are the side which allows an 80 yard touchdown drive for the win with no time left. Whatever fair criticisms which come up otherwise, this is one that has been fixed so far this year.

Game Balls vs. Minnesota
WhitewalkerInPhilly replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sammy. As much of a Sammy skeptic I am, oh dear god Sammy. Two touchdowns, including the clutch winning score.... I may be eating crow -
I would also say there there is no such thing as an ugly win. They are uniquely beautiful, in the way that they cause the opposing team to freak out in special ways.

The old Bills have a history of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. It's nice to see it the other way around for once.

Kyle Williams/Nigel Bradham updates?
WhitewalkerInPhilly replied to dascottbills28's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The first injury report is due Wednesday. They were both limited on Friday and doubtful to play. Assuming that they are able to practice Wednesday even if limited there's a good chance at least one plays. -
I will say that, looking at how Pettine has done on his own, and seeing how Schwartz has done with a defense that had outsiders screaming because he was going to be without Byrd and Kiko...and had made one hell of a unit 5 games in. Even in the games we've lost, defensive points allowed has been shockingly low, just how I like it.

Geno benched at half
WhitewalkerInPhilly replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just in case you were screaming about how we should have taken Geno over EJ... -
EJ benched, Orton to start.
WhitewalkerInPhilly replied to JÂy RÛßeÒ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Technically Smith was never a free agent. He got traded for a first round pick. I'm not going to say we had no chance of getting him, but that's a heavy pick plus a vet's salary. -
EJ benched, Orton to start.

TBH Orton was probably the best QB to hit free agency since Manning, not that that is saying much. -

I don't know about "blown up". I'm not thrilled but average QB play with a stellar D and a strong run game can get you to the playoffs in a weak division, which is what the AFCE looks like right now. I meant more on the sense that he's not a franchise QB -

I feel the same way. Even if there is debate as to whether Orton is a short term improvement I don't think anyone considers him a long term solution. I think the question isn't "Can he win enough games for us" but rather "Can he not lose enough games for us". -

I legitimately want EJ to be great for us and I've been one of his bigger apologists. But man he was brutal these last two weeks. Maybe Orton won't be better. Maybe some bench time will let him ride the pine and get his head clear. But we aren't going to the playoffs with play like that. Best of luck Kyle. Prove it with some wins. -
MNF - Bears @ J-e-t-s
WhitewalkerInPhilly replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
i'll have to take a look when the game hits rewind, but it sounds like the jets' run defense looks as solid as ever, but their secondary sounds like a tire fire. and last night he gave up more turnovers in one game that ej has all year, including the safety. the jets's are also 1-2 to our 2-1 and their only win was an unconvincing one against one of the bottom five in the league. again, geno has better arm strength and accuracy, but makes more boneheaded decisions. -
MNF - Bears @ J-e-t-s
WhitewalkerInPhilly replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think this week sums up the difference between geno and ej knocks really well. geno has brighter flashes of greatness, but whe he's bad, he hurts the team more than ej when he's bad. -
Trade proposal - Jerry Hughes for Alex Boone

Angst in New England - Love It

i'm not going to say that brady is over...but so far this year, he's looking human. the pats have drawn a relatively easy opening few weeks, playing the dolphins and losing on the road, beating up on a vikings team with no answer at qb, and barely squeaking by oakland. it looks like it might be happening boys. brady's slide may have begun. -
The Chargers, Rivers and Antonio Gates
WhitewalkerInPhilly replied to PS 56's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was looking over an article Bucky brooks wrote at the start of preseason, about how the big nickel is becoming trendy as a way to match up against 2wr, 2 te, 1 rb formations, something i suspect to see a lot of with the chargers talented te's such as gates, and pretty good wr's and an injured starting rb. in it, he specifically mentions that aaron williams fits the mold well as a big, physical safety who still has coverage skills. this might be how we play it. -
does anyone else think that we'll be seeing a lot of nickel out there on sunday while woodhead is tricky, i am far more worried about the passing attack. graham has been playing really well so far and i can see him used to cover gates, as graham is one of our bigger cb's probably with a. williams as support.

here' one stat i like...going into tonight's game, the bills rank 5th in points scored.

let's do a quick rundown on whaley's offseason moves this week. -byrd was part of a saints defense that has looked god awful. -corey graham had a beast of a day for the second week in a row. -dixon had a blocked punt -spikes helped shut down forte last week, and i believe he helped shut down miller fter moreno went out. -his first pick the one people, myself included, said he traded too much for had over 100 yards and a touchdown -preston brown had 12 tackles -randall johnson recovered the blocked punt -henderson, a 7th round pick rookie, outplayed a probowler -and my favorite, hughes was a constant presence and had a sack, while the man whaley traded him for couldn't crack the battered miami staring roster and is only noted for whiffing on cj's return. so far, well done whaley

It should have been a touchback...
WhitewalkerInPhilly replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
this. even if it wasn't i wouldn't be sweating it after all of the non-calls on the false starts, them getting ticky tack with hughes when he moved, and two unsportsmanlike conduct on players on the sideline when the ref wasn't looking where he was going and ran into smith and when someone got upset on a non-called late hit. -
Game announcers were awful!
WhitewalkerInPhilly replied to offsides#76FredSmerlas's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
it was pretty loud at my bar too but even then i kept noticing them constantly getting the downs wrong, and reported lee smith in when he was inactive. i would be surprised if they had a few mixed drinks of their own in hand.
