I don't know what that makes them---- maybe a little desperate. Kelsay was average at DE and so far he's worse at OLB. If you really are friends with him tell him that there are many fans (me included) that sincerely hope he does well. That's 100% honest, I want him to succeed, and I would like him to know that. His character and hard work do not go unnoticed. The only reason anyone gives you a hard time is that you are aggressively condescending, especially when you back yourself into a corner on unpopular issues. The whole "get a clue" thing is beyond obnoxious.

I just think he should get more than 4 games to state his case. Plus, there are actual respected people in the NFL that have actual respect for his actual potential as an NFL head coach, not some dunce on a message board claiming to be his friend that thinks he is a great DE/OLB deserving $24 million. "Get a cluuuuuuuuuuuuuuuueeeee." I said several times I don't hate Kelsay... I'm just not in love with him like you are. $24 million is a lot of money, although it probably won't all be paid out. I really wish Nix and Gailey, and whomever else, did not agree that this was in the best interest of the team.

I wish I was in his fantasy league, I could start Ryan Denney and make a killing.
-
I never liked Jauron, that's for sure--- I'm only saying he has a certain modicum of respect around the league. It's not unreasonable to admit this and still be skeptical that he can succeed here as head coach. If he doesn't pan out, well... more phantom rebuilding. I'm not going to yell, but why did the Bills extend a sh***y DE/OLB at an exorbitant price when it's likely no other team would sign him for one year at the veteran minimum? "Get a clue".
-
I don't even hate Diedorf or anything, but sometimes he lets a few gems out like that. Priceless.
-
You can't just say "Pioli didn't want him" when there is plenty of evidence that it is literally true that he did... and nobody really cares if you're sticking up for your friend Kelsay. Cowher wouldn't publicly and professionally stake his reputation on "sticking up for his friend". It's a little different than ranting on a message board.
-
Pioli wanted to hire Gailey as Head Coach in KC, but was (justifiably) afraid that the hire wouldn't excite the fans. So, when Todd Haley was hired, although Gailey was held over from the previous coaching regime, it was decided that the 2 had conflicting offensive philosophies. So he was fired, which was less of a mess than the similar situation in Buffalo at that time considering Haley's experience calling plays for the Cardinals explosive offense from mid 2007-08.
-
If Scott Pioli wanted to hire Gailey as head coach in Kansas City, Bill Cowher suggested to the Steelers' brass that his successor should be Chan Gailey, and Jerry Jones admits to regretting firing Gailey after only 2 years in Dallas doesn't that literally mean he is "well respected"? It doesn't mean he is a good coach, exactly, but those 3 examples alone prove it is a fact he is "well respected"--- "well respected" being subjective, anyway. "Get a clue".

Dude, Kelsay had 9 points in his fantasy league. So, uh, yeah--- I think he did okay!

Lassie got cut last week and is backing up in Jax... if Garrard struggles or gets hurt we may be watching Lassie whether there's a blackout or not.

This is a put on, right? It has literally unconceivable to be real.

Now he's posting in every thread (including one which he started today) sarcastic comments about how the Bills just need a little "hard work"to fix things--- he's mocking Gailey and Nix by distilling their philosophy down to this oversimplification. I thought that's why he loves Kelsay so much--- because he's such a hard worker? -
TO is on pace for 96 catches and 1496 yards (15.6 ypc)
Punch replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Is TO the answer to our woes? No? Then who cares? I don't think he's washed up, I think in 2009 he was the victim of an inept offense and sometimes his concentration lacked because of it, and I think he can help a good team get better in 2010. He was a good teammate and a good Buffalo Bill in the midst of a miserable era. But for the 2010 Bills and beyond he is virtually worthless. By the time the team is good enough to properly utilize him he will likely be washed up. -
The '85 team had no quarterback, was poorly coached, and was an odd mix of inexperienced youth and decent veterans. There was no way to know that the young guys on that team would blossom into good to great players they eventually evolved into. Obviously, major changes occurred over the next 3 years that turned also rans into perennial contenders thanks to Bill Polian. Even though there are some talented names on that list I think the 2010 Bills are probably as talented or more so, and certainly better coached. Gailey at least has established credibility in the NFL... Bullough's only notoriety is having sucked as the Bills' HC in 1985. Whether or not he's added to the trash heap of Stephenson, Bullough, Mularkey, Williams, Jauron, et al remains to be seen.

An Inconvenient Truth -
If there were any suitable replacements waiting in the wings I'm sure they would cut Cornell Green amongst others. Unfortunately, there are no suitable replacements waiting in the wings at any position, including Ownership.

I believe it just comes down to utter ineptitude and nothing more. Wilson listens to these guys when no other competent people are around with a strong steady voice. As for Mort... what is this, high school? Because that's what he sounds like with this crap. Donahoe was his buddy and while Tom was in charge Mort was at the forefront leading the cheers every week on how great the Bills were. "Ooooh, I can't say. If you only knew what I knew..." There's no boogie man, just a bunch of morons.

I thought Kelsay was extended for his lockerrom presence and leadership???? Actually, if his lockerrom presence is so great, next week at gametime he should do us all a favor and stay in the lockerrom.
-
How can Buddy Nix and Chan Gailey fix the mess?
Punch replied to Another Point of View's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not that I advocate some of Tom Donahoe's less desirable excesses, but if he were GM this upcoming offseason I would be reasonably confident the Bills would attempt to sign ILB David Harris of the Jets and OLB Lamarr Woodley from the Steelers. They're both being asked to wait until the offseason to get extended and are more or less disgruntled as they watch teammates get paid while they sit on rookie contracts. They're also two of the best young 3-4 'backers in the NFL. In the case of Woodley, I read an article from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that gave credit to Doug Whaley for scouting and recommending him to the Steelers' brass. Those 2 guys alone would change the defense immeasurably. Not that I think this will ever happen in a billion years. I'd also pray to Semos that Andrew Luck declared, the Bills pick him and then trade their 2012 1st and whatever else to get back into the high 1st in 2011 and take Gabe Carimi. Also not likely to happen (also, not that the Bills trading back into the 1st round this past decade has spelled anything but imminent doom). -

How deluded can someone be that they use fantasy points to determine whether or not a player is worthy of a starting role or contract extension? And what the !@#$ kind of fantasy league rates Chris Kelsay higher than Mario Williams? I wouldn't rate Kelsay ahead of Mario Cantone at this point. Fantasy land, indeed. -

Punch replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's especially crazy considering the 2 richest Bills of that era (when Kelsay was first extended to an exorbitant) were Derrick Dockery and Langston Walker... race had nothing to do with handing out ginormous contracts to inept players. And of course there's Evans getting approximately $500,000 per catch for 2010. -
It was 2006 (I only know because I had to look it up) which was the first year with Marv. In my opinion, all roster moves should be made in concert with (at the very least) the Head Coach, but sometimes GMs do act on their own. That's why Parcells wanted to "shop for the groceries" if he was expected to "cook the dinner", or whatever he said all those years ago with the Jets. That whole era with Marv at the helm was a disaster, so it wouldn't surprise me if they were just bumbling into one another like the Keystone Kops--- kind of like how the team was doing on the field, come to think of it.

Aside from the game at (oddly enough) New England, every game so far this season I've felt that sinking hopelessness ordinarily reserved solely for New England, each year for the past 10 years. There were always points during any given year where I'd feel progress was made--- until we played the Pats and then realized how far away we truly were from being a competitive team. Now, every team makes me feel that we're miles and miles away from being average. Having said that, I'm confident Gailey and Nix are a capable of moving this franchise in the right direction, and I truly believe a front office "up and comer" like Doug Whaley would never leave stability and a bright future in Pittsburgh unless he saw more than a sinking ship in Buffalo. I believe you're right in your assessment that Jauron's approach was akin to plugging holes in a leaky rowboat with fingers, a la Bugs Bunny. But these men seem to understand there is a problem and are not afraid to say it in public. No more "it's hard to win in the NFL" white flag nonsense. I also think beating the Jets at the Meadowlands last year was an illusion--- a rookie Sanchez throwing 5 picks (and then getting a 6th later) and the Bills still needed to get to OT to win it. They were likely just as far away last year as this year, using some smoke and mirrors, as you suggest.

I agree with this general sentiment, but I wonder about this one detail. I first heard about Overdorf releasing Vincent and upsetting Ralph in the process recently from WGR's Paul Hamilton, and I thought this was a totally insane thing to do. But it occurred to me that this happened during the Marv-elous era when the team was operating under a GM-by-committee: Levy, Brandon, Overdorf, and possibly Littman all had a say in Front Office matters. Is it possible that, in this instance, Overdorf was not acting out of turn? Still, someone on the board had recently posted that quote about the definition of insanity is when you keep performing the same actions over and over again, expecting different results... if Ralph has been listening to Overdorf and Littman for the past 16 or so years since Polian left, maybe he should consider committing himself before the legions of remaining Bills' fans check themselves in, instead.
