My philosophy for the draft is target good players that are a good value at your pick and play a position where they can immediately contribute. Then, take the best one when your pick is up. I believe rankings should be a bit flexible. It’s naïve to think one can rank players accurately enough to justify taking a WR over a DL guy when the WR is ranked 3-5 slots higher than your DL guy and you desperately need DL help. *I know I have lots of OL and DL guys listed, but with only 5 picks in my mock I would not draft more than 2 at any position. That is, If I landed Dareus and Taylor rounds 1 and 2 I would not take Jarvis Jenkins in the 4th and would jump to Ziembra. I tried to be realistic here, aka a popular pick in the 3rd is Sheppard from LSU but he will be long gone. Round 1: -Fairley Auburn -Bowers Clemson -Dareus. Alabama All play DE and none need an explanation. Round 2: -Phil Taylor. NG Baylor. What an absolute monster. He allows us to move KW to DE, him and Troupe both play – its hard to stay fresh at 330+. -Derrick Sherrod RT. Miss St. The 2nd best T in the draft to Carimi will fall to us as guys like Coztansa and Soldier who aren’t as good are drafted before him. -Martez Wilson. ILB. Illinois. Starts at ILB from day 1. -Mike Pouncy G Florida. Starts at RG from day 1. - Kyle Rudolf or Luke Stocker. We really need a TE. I don’t know much about Rudolf but I do know I like Stocker a lot. Round 3: -Mark Herzlich ILB Boston College.. A lot of people don’t think he isnt very good but I do. He is big and strong and intelligent, diagnosing plays very very well. He played inside at BC and also shifted out wide to play the nickel CB role against 3 wide sets. I have no worries about him coving a big TE like Gronkowski. He was great taking on blockers in the senior bowl and would start for us Day 1. Once he gets another year or two removed from Chemo I expect him to return to his top 15 pick form. -Kendric Burney CB NC. One of the NC guys who missed games due to suspension. He played great in the Senior bowl which has risen his stock out of the later rounds and maybe higher than this pick too. But we cannot ingonre the trend of the multi WR sets in the NFL and teams need CBs. -Brooks Reed OLB. Arizona. Good size for an OLB who also has a history of rushing the passer. Would be a very good fit opposite Moats in the future. -James Carpenter OL Alabama. RG or RT, Carpenter could have started at either for the 2010 Bills the last few games and will start at one in 2011 -Marvin Austin DL. NC. Not sure if he falls this far but he may and he is on the list. Round 4a & b -James Carpenter OL Alabama. RG or RT, See Round 3. After the Senior Bowl I think he goes a bit higher than this pick. I think he is more than skilled enough to go at our 3rd round pick but I hope the league passes on this under rated O lineman and he is available in the 4th. -Jarvis Jenkins DL Clemson. The big bog from Clemson has prototype size for the 5 tech and the frame to ad #s to play NG where he lined up in college. - Lee Ziemba OT Auburn. A prototype RT size wise who has a bright future in this league, potentially a future starter. - James Brewster OL Indiana. This mammoth of a man was exposed as lacking elite feet, but also a huge road grader at the Sr. Bowl. Would be a monster of a RG. -John Miffit OL Wisconsin. Could start at G or C in 2011. -Mike Blanc DL Auburn. This talented D lineman is a carbon copy of Jenkins, see above. The only other guy I can add as a later round guy is the RB from ‘Cuse Carter. He is built for the NFL and runs like an NFL runner. I could see him replacing Freddie as our full time starter in 2012. - This will be updated post combine and the day before the draft. Have at it.

What should we do for the QB position?
High Mark replied to The Buffalo Irishman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We should hope and pray we have a shot at Luck next year (not saying tank it, just saying maybe he falls in teh draft, maybe we can swing a trade up, maybe we tank it all on our own, who knows) -
Grooming Linebackers the Steeler Way
High Mark replied to Bilgewater's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great read. Its obvious they put an emphasis on intelligence, something I'm not so certain the Bills do with McKelvins score on the wonderlic being equivalent to illiterate and McGahee and Spiller not being able to learn the plays - not to mention Lynch and Maybin, who cant even contribute on special teams. And this was my favorite part: This season’s group — part of the league’s top-ranked rushing defense (62.8 yards per game allowed) and the league’s leading sack defense (48) — might provide the clearest example of the Steelers’ method for building a seamless unit. #1 ranked rush D and the top pass rusing D to boot. Something tells me its not all about DBs. -
need some input about quinn and taylor
High Mark replied to swnybillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Quinn was suspended for accepting a free trip to Miami to work out at some special gym and jewelery from an agent. Phil Taylor was arrested in St COllege then suspended and transfered. Not sure why but Im not too worried about either. Quinn I wish there was more tape of, all there is is that one video on him on Youtube really. Taylor I saw some and I really really like. I would be happy with these two for sure. I really dont know how Quinn projects to OLB though. -
#1 RT - Name one on our roster worth being in the NFL. You cant say that about any other position on the team. #2 ILB - Poz and ??? Poz may not be ack next year. If he isnt, then you could say we dont have any ILBs on the roster worth being in the NFL. #3 TE - I dont think we have any at all. **It cant be DL when we had 2 rookies, a former PBer, and a guy who some had as the D MVP on teh DL.
-
What team have you been following the last 10 years? What game did you watch yesterday? Soldier looked like a white Cornell Green out there. Agreed
-
They also passed on Spikes who went on to start for NE.
-
Resign Poz and Florence, Let Whitner walk and start GWilson, he is better anyways. Draft: 1: Fariley, Bowers, or Dareus 2: Phil Taylor, NG, Baylor 3: Mark Herzlish, ILB, BC 4b:J.Jenkins or Mike Blanc, DE, Clemson & Aubrun respectively.
-
I dont see see thoas FAs all coming here, and Im not sure Sheppard or Reed will be available when you have listed, btu I like them. Same goes for Carpenter.
-
Lets be honest, Fairley, Bowers, and Dareus ARE the best 3 players in this draft regardless of position. Quinn may be in the discussion too but he didnt play this year. Green and Peterson are not the BPAs at 3, its a moot argument to me.

What was teh context of the question? Does Gailey think the college spread is the new wave in teh NFL? and he wants to be the first one using it? Hello VY???

I agree with this. I Miller is screwed when an OLman get their hands on him. His weak speed game does not work in the NFL. The only Way Miller is successful is if he can avoid contact and run to the ball carrier. His best role in the NFL is a 4-3 WILL. Miller was a great rusher in college but his game doesn't translate, see above. I also have to seriously question your knowledge of him if you think he is adept at stopping the run. He is actually quite abysmal. I wouldn't trust anything Nix says, I'm not sure even he knows what he is doing. I myself was very impressed with Herzlich. He is big and strong and would be a great fit inside. On one running play he stepped up and completely stopped Sherrod dead in his tracks and got great arm extension. He didnt make the tackle but he completely blew up the play in the whole. #rd rounder is my hope.

My favorite 3 picks. Astro - aafter the Senior Bowl, where do you see James Carpenter going? Before the game I was hoping he fell to our 4th, but IMO he was teh best tackle playing today, where does he go now? Also, where do you see Brewer going? M. Cannon? I am hoping for a starting RT in this draft. Alos, J Jenkins from Clemson, Reed from Arisona, and Stocker from Tenn. - where does your site predict them going?
-
how come the Bills rush d allows 23452152 yards a game then?
-
No one will agree with me but I think his only cahnce is as a 43 WILL. He wont be able to rush the passer in teh NFL because he is similiar to Maybin in that regard. Miller has instincts though (which Maybin never had) and is a good college player. The only way to get any kind of use out of him will be to keep blockers off of him. He wont be sccessful as a rush LB but as a 4-3 will and being free to roam he will make plays.
-
Agree on SHeppard. Heard he had a abd week but he is playing well. wouldnt be a bad RT in the 2nd.
-
Miller is playing as a WILL right now - thats where he will be successful in teh NFL. He is smart and quick, but he will not be able to rush in teh NFL. expecting him to do that would be a mistake. PS Phil Taylor is a man among boys and J Jenkins could be a great 5 tech
-
If anyone is watching teh OT play - Soldier and COztansa suck, jsut like I have said all year. Love is really struggling. Carpenter and the Auburn guy Kiembra are pretty good.
-
I think we go 3-13 with that offseason.

Phil Taylor is a true NG prospect aty 6'4'' 340 pounds and not out of shap at all according to those at teh senior bowl. He is wearing #98 today for Gaileys South team at teh Sr bowl. If he has a good game we will be lucky to get him with our 2nd rounder. I think he could be a great addition, which would allow KW to move to the 5 tech, and out top 2 NGs would be Taylor and Troup, with KW still being able to play NG on 3rd and long. Depth is very key and those big guys need breaks. IMO you really need 2 NGs on a team. Later round NG prospects are Jarvis Jenkins from Clemson, wearing #99 on the south team also. He is 6'4'' and 310, btu could get bigger. Mike Blanc from Auburn is also a stout guy at the same listed size. Both of those guys are 4th-5th round prospects that are real anchors in teh sand. The opportunity to get a stout NG is there in the draft. Fixeed

Double it. I would prefer that. Wilson is much better than Whitner.
-
Mankins, Sioli, Z.Miller (or another TE). Just one of those 3 please.
-
Id rather jsut not cut Maybin.

I just paid for my 2011 Season Tickets
High Mark replied to Albany,n.y.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Did they say you get a refund if the season doesnt happen? I refuse to pay for tickets or parking. Its a personal promise I made to myself after the spineless Bills brought DJ back after that 2-10 collapse. Ive been to a few games but it was an extra ticket and a free ride there. I have also neglected to go to a few games for free. They really arent worth it anymore, Ill jsut watch it on TV and flip to see some real football teams on Fox during the commercials. I figure Ill buy my next ticket when the Bills make the playoffs. I doubt I ever buy another ticket. -
Phil Taylor, Rd 2. 340#s of fit human. Ill be interested to see how he performs tomorrow.
