mike lupica piece - Marrone is Richie Kotite redux
SDS replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This kind of press will torpedo Marrone. -
I will be performing a long over due maintenance upgrade on the board today. Just checking right now if any add-ons will break. So, if the board is offline - you will know why. Just chill for 30 minutes or so. Thanks. Want to get this done before my break is over.

or maybe just picked a better head coach.

Xenforo vs IPB Software - Any posters here have an opinion?
SDS replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Is the implication Xenforo is complicated? Their mobile responsive design is quite nice. I love the look of this forum: https://theadminzone.com/forums/ipb.88/ -
As vBulletin falls spectacularly from their dominate position, their former coders started a new company Xenforo about 4 years ago. I think Xenforo now has 2x the installed base of IPB (our current software provider). I've stuck to IPB for a lot of years, but the focus shift in their company and the mind-numbingly long waits for new releases has me peeking over the fence. Does anyone else visit some favorite forums that run on Xenforo? Do you like the user experience?

Jim Fassel was once a can't miss, hottest coach out there rehire. Never got a NFL HC job again.

Erin Andrews date or Bills home playoff game?
SDS replied to BrycePaup4ever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The OP didn't state you were going to the game - only that there would be one. Given that, I remember the last one I went to. Buff vs Jax. So exciting to see Jim get carted off thinking he was Batman. Love to tell stories about my first game experience watching Todd Collins... -
Right now - here is where I'm at. I sent a note to Softlayer asking for a customer retention price on a modern rig, as that would be easiest. Alternatively, I'm looking at: https://www.digitalocean.com/ per BlueFire's recommendation and http://www.incero.com per many great reviews. They are actually down the road from Softlayer in TX. Digital Ocean is very intriguing based upon their pricing, but there has to be a catch. The $160 tier looks great for every day use with $320 tier for Draft and game days. Any insightful observations there would be great. I appreciate the other offers for hosting, but I have been through a dozen providers in the past and I'm just very particular.

Leasing and colocating are different animals. Clearly the cost savings on colo is appealing - until something goes and it has to be fixed. I'm considering it, but it is a huge roll of the dice.

Yet, that response actually misses my entire point by a country mile. -

I guarantee you the percentage of people here with season tickets is in single digits... Have fun with your sausagefest. -

The more I think about it the more wacked you people are. You can spend the evening with any beautiful, famous celebrity where you can have a story to tell for the rest of your life - compete with a selfie or two or you can sit in front of a TV for a few hours and watch other people experience life. That's completely !@#$ed up. It doesn't matter how the date goes - it's a better story/experience than the alternative. -
a key point here is the amount of updates I need to do. Given all the work it will take to reconfigure things - I'm going to take the opportunity to grab more hardware resources for hopefully marginal dollars, even if it sits there idle. I guess I should just call and see what a straight RAM upgrade would cost, but I'm guessing it still makes sense to get new hardware. So, I can do smaller RAM increments on current server. I can get up to 20 GB for an extra $72, but with that extra cash, I could get an entirely better server all the way around I think.

It still gives you a better story than saying you watched a game on TV. -

Erin Andrews... or any date for that matter. Never pass up being involved in an experience over watching someone else's experience. Life is too short. Now, if I'm PLAYING in that game... different story. -
October: I stay under 5Mbps total all year. Get game day spikes of 4.5Mbps. 500 GB total throughput in October. physical storage is negligible. I doubt I need 40 GB in disk space. If so, that is the ballpark I need. CentOS

unfortunately, my choices are 4, 8, 12, 16, 32. Nothing in-between 16-32. I'm actually at 5.2 GB for the total forum database size (not including anything else on this server), so that is probably where I need to go. 16 is probably too small, but clearly better than what I have now - 32 is way over. I also think the faster memory should give a performance boost. 667 to 1333 should help - no?
-
haha. uh, yeah. 48 GB of RAM is an extra $180 per month. Those extra disks about another $100 per month. I'm not buying anything - this is all rented monthly, so the extra costs are forever. I'm not looking to foot a $7200 per year server bill.
