Pretty good. Of course you could have the guy wearing an Obama button instead of the hat and switch the balloons and it would be equally apropos. Plenty of hypocrisy to go around these days.

Very true. I wonder if the guy who drew the cartoon gets that?

This misplaced George Orwell reference was brought to you by the party who gave us the Patriot Act. <_<

Had we not fought to break ties with England during the American Revolution, Joe Wilson's act would just be standard Parliamentary procedure. Yet the rednecks and low information voters consider him to be a patriot. It's the equivalent of a student getting rewarded for being disruptive in class.

Palin/Wilson 2012!

You mean the Patriot Act that got a total of 455 'Yea' votes in Congress, including the current VPOTUS, Secretary of State and Speaker of the House? Which party was that?

Yes, that same one, but Dems are all about the government running things, right? It would have been nice if the then-empowered "party of small government" had not sought to use circumstance force so much government down our throats.

Anyone propping up Joe Wilson for his unprecedented lack of restraint and respect for the office of POTUS is a jackass.

At one point in his life. Later, when he grew up, he disassociated himself from socialism.

NEXT!

It's kind of like a serial killer who repents, confesses his sins and gets rewarded with a one-way ticket to heaven.

It's as if he never even strangled all those strippers.

Misplaced? I wouldn't even give it that much credit. Nothing more than a weak attempt at an ex post facto justification of impulsive behavior. I don't mind Wilson's outburst (in fact, I wish Congress were more parlimentary. It would make CSpan worth watching. Hell, screw term limits, bring back duelling), but anyone who thinks it was a heroic act of defiance is delusional.

Wrong. He disassociated himself with Stalinism, not socialism.

Technically...still wrong. Because he never associated himself with Stalinism to begin with, so he could hardly disassociate himself from it.

Orwell was a Democratic Socialist (in one sense or another) all his life...but he was largely anti-revolutionary and anti-totalitarian all his life. Which was the central theme of both Animal Farm and 1984.

It's incredibly mindless. Anything as a rallying point, no matter how inappropriate.

I'll disagree with the 'more parliamentary' sentiment though. This country is bipolar enough without the additional mindless rhetoric that would likely spread from that kind of debate. I always thought Tony Blair looked like such a little B word when watching video of Parliamentary debates.
