Innsbrook Concerts (Richmond area) - Beware!!

Recommended Posts

I know some Richmond area residents have been talking about attending concerts at Innsbrook. My wife and I were tossed out of the RatDog/moe show tonight about halfway through RatDog (bummer...right during Playing in the Band). Although the place is crawling with cops, they have a bunch of Niedermeyers on RMC (event services company that staffs the events) and they were moving through the crowd and tossing people indiscriminately for whatever was against policy. I saw several other people get tossed around the same time as us. FYI if you're going.

As expected, a bunch of people were smoking the evil weed throughout the crowd. We declined a few times when jays were passed our way. The one time my wife takes a hit and I am passing it to the next person, one of the RMC staff in their official red outfit stealthily descends on us and tells us we have to leave...if not, he is going to call the cops on his walkie-talkie. I looked at him and laughed but he had that look of trying to make everything right in the world and was too serious for screwing around with. I protested somewhat but he kept reiterating how he could arrest me. So, he walked us out of the place and we turned the corner and watched the rest of the show outside the gates just beyond the beer tent. Us and a bunch of the other scofflaws that they targeted. Some other people were dancing in the VIP tent area aisles (right in front of where we were standing before we got tossed) and they made them sit down or they were going to toss them. They weren't in anyone's way as everyone was standing. Sheeesh!

dude, this wasn't 'indiscriminately' as you stated in your first post....you were caught smoking a joint...that is illegal...whether you agree with the ilegal/legal aspect of pot, it is still considered illegal....sorry that happened to you, but you did it to yourself....i chose not to smoke pot, so I was allowed to stay....however i did discover if you want to catch a buzz, just go to the port-o-johns....people leave behind thick clouds of the hippie lettuce wafting in the air...among other odors....

Indiscriminate from the standpoint in that they could have nabbed any number of people within a small radius of us at the show but they snagged us. If we were the only ones doing this, then it isn't indiscriminate. Now, perhaps they had their eye on us and were targeting us and waiting for us to do something but I doubt it. Most likely, they were snooping around and just happened to be in the area and see my wife smoking and passing it to me (btw - I wasn't smoking) and nabbed us. Obviously (due to others that I saw being excorted out the gate), they were sending other staff into crowd areas to boot people. At that show, they could have stood blindfolded anywhere within the crowd and have a 50% chance to nab a smoker by reaching a hand out. You may be right about it being safer going to the port-a-johns...as I said, I wasn't smoking so I didn't consider it. I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. My point of the thread is that there is a number of hard-core police wannabes on the security staff at those shows so beware. I had been there about a month ago and didn't notice the same situation. Perhaps this attitude was beefed up for this show but, just-in-case, be aware the next time you go. Maybe next show the security staff will be standing on stools outside the port-a-john vents.

oh i didnt mean to indicate i went to the port-o-johns to smoke...i simply went after someone who did, and they left a lot of their smoke lingering for the next person...and of course there was an increase in them looking for pot smokers, it was a "Dead" crowd...its like shooting fish in a barrel....at least you got to see the rest of the show from the fence line....both bands were damn good

That's why I love shows in SF. The lights go down a nice cloud forms with no hassles. I don't partake anymore but the smell just adds to the ambience.

I'm still unsure of what Info did that was against the rules, or illegal. If he is being honest (and I have no reason to doubt he is) he didn't smoke anything.

I guess the people dancing, who (according to the OP) were also ejected, should have been more careful, too.

he had a lit joint in his hand.......try driving with an open beer and getting pulled over and telling the cop that you didn't drink it....

Joints aren't labeled. I'm sure the joint was never tested for marijuana, either. Somebody handed him something and he passed it down the line. Some offense, no? Imagine yourself at a baseball game and the vendor passes a beer down the line. You pass it along, and security comes and throws you out of the game for having handed the beer to a minor (who also passed it along). Maybe it's a Coke, and the guard suspects it has been laced with PCP.

Seems like a clear case of over reaction by the rent a cops. I guess a warning would have indicated their penises were short, and they had no power. Throwing people out of a concert (no charge, no arrest, no evidence...just a muscle move) tells the world they have very large penises and great power. If the rent-a-cop really suspected the joint was Info's, and saw him light and smoke the joint, I'd say you have a legitimate point. Tossing someone out for NOT SMOKING pot is a dick move of the highest order.

EDIT: And, Pooj...what about the dancers?

LMAO. You've gotta be kidding me. So, you are mad at getting tossed from an event in public because you were smoking pot? Ummmm, ok. Hell, the should have arrested you. It's illegal.

So, in other words, the RMC staff is actually doing it's job better than Henrico's police department. Although I don't smoke weed, I don't really judge people who do.....but to think you should have the right to do something in public is just ignorant.

Sorry man, but I'm kind of glad they removed you!

Poojer isn't the guy who was removed. Mr. Info was, and as he stated, he DIDN'T smoke the pot.

Reading comprehension is at an all time low, on The Wall, it seems.

The dancers surely were being too provocative...or something...right?

Exactly, how in the hell could you even try to justify that? LOL. Jesus.

I was talking about Mr. Info. Jesus. No schitt. You are the biggest know it all on the board.

The only stupidity here is for someone to think it's OK to have pot at a public event, of all places. Not only that, if you are an adult and someone passes you something illegal in a public place where security is all around, TURN IT DOWN. You've gotta be a moron, as an adult, to take that chance. Even if it is happening all around you.

And lastly, if you decide, as an adult, to take that thing in your hand, be prepared for the consequences of what could happen.

Reading comprehension is fine....and the stupidity and blaming of others for something that YOU did is typical of America today. I did something ILLEGAL.....had fuggin pot in my posession around cops and security...........and I have the nerve to angry cuz I got tossed. What a joke. And to attempt to defend stupid behavior like that, is even dumber.

Deal with the consequences and move on. You were the stupid one, not security.

i must have missed something about dancing being forbidden.....

i was out with my family and parents as well, my 17 year old son passed my beer to me...a waitress saw him do that and she immediately came to our table to tell us that that cannot happen, if an ABC person saw that, the restaurant could have gotten fined for it.

and sure he could have been an 'innocent' passer of something he didn't realize was an illegal substance...but again...if you are gonna hold something for someone, you better be damn sure you know what you are holding because ignorance is no excuse....

sure they were being 'strong' armed, but there were alot of kids in attendance with their parents, it is a very family friendly venue and they were probably more on alert of pre-judged profiling of the crowd to keep it under control.....he had an illegal substance in his possession....the security people did what they were supposed to do...again...complain all you want about the legal issues surrounding marijuana, but for the time being at least, he was breaking the law and he didn't even get a citation...i'd say the security people used pretty decent restraint in simply escorting him the gate
