Get ready for the movie studios to pack a big punch every week. The month of May rolls in to kickoff a gigantic Summer Season. As is becoming more of a tradition the month of May is loaded with big titles, bigger stars, and even bigger production costs. Look for the box office numbers to skyrocket on a year that is already at a record pace.

As is the case with most summer films the big draws will be the sequels, and right now the biggest sequel this summer is Warner Bros. "Terminator: Salvation". In this 4th film of the franchise, After Skynet has destroyed much of humanity in a nuclear holocaust, a group of survivors led by John Connor struggles to keep the machines from finishing the job. This is the first Terminator movie not to headline Arnold Schwarzenegger, also it is the first Terminator movie to take place in the future, which has many fans interested. The fans have seen enough of humanity trying to save John Connor, now they will get to see John Connor trying to save humanity. Add in the fact that the current Batman, Christian Bale, is now in the role of John Connor, and this franchise is ready to reach dizzying heights. Also starring Sam Worthington, Anton Yelchin, Moon Bloodgood, Bryce Dallas Howard & Helena Bonham Carter.

Paramount Pictures welcomes back one of the most popular sci-fi franchises around in "Star Trek". It has been 9 years since the last Trek film, and that involved the next generation cast. This time Paramount & director J.J. Abrams are going further back and starting anew. This will be the origin story of Captain James T. Kirk, Spock and the crew of the USS Enterprise before they had boldly gone where no man had gone before. Some fans have concerns about going back to the past, yet this could be the shot in the arm that the Star Trek franchise needs. Starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Eric Bana, Bruce Greenwood, Winona Ryder & Leonard Nimoy.

What's summer without a comic book movie? While there are'nt as many as last year, 20th Century Fox delivers "X-Men Origins: Wolverine". An origins story that follows the early life of James Howlett, also known as Logan, and best known as Wolverine. What is looking to be the first of a possible series of "Origin" films, Fox wanted to get it's most popular X-Men character his own movie, to keep the franchise going strong. Of course there will be other mutants in the film too, especially the long awaited arrival of Gambit. Starring Hugh Jackman, Liev Schreiber, Ryan Reynolds, Danny Huston, Taylor Kitsch & Dominic Monaghan.

The powerful combo of Disney-Pixar returns this summer with "Up". By tying thousands of balloons to his home, 78-year-old Carl Fredricksen sets out to fulfill his lifelong dream to see the wilds of South America. Right after lifting off, however, he learns he isn't alone on his journey, since Russell, a wilderness explorer 70 years his junior, has inadvertently become a stowaway on the trip. Disney & Pixar have been the premiere team of computer animated movies, not just for their animation, but for their creative storytelling as well. They could very well have another winner here. Starring Edward Asner, Jordan Nagai, Christopher Plummer, & John Ratzenberger.

Director Ron Howard & Sony Pictures follow up the success of The Da Vinci Code with "Angels & Demons". Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon finds himself in Rome, where he has to race against time to prevent the Illuminati, a secret society, from putting in motion a terrorist act that could destroy the Vatican. He's aided in his quest by the beautiful Italian scientist Vittoria Vetri. Although the book was written before Code, this movie is being treated as a sequel. Starring Tom Hanks, Ewen McGregor, Ayelet Zurer, Stellen Skarsgard & Armin Muehller-Stahl.

Another big sequel from 20th Century Fox comes the family friendly "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian". Security guard Larry Daley infiltrates the Smithsonian Institute in order to rescue Jedediah and Octavius, who have been shipped to the museum by mistake. Starring Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, Owen Wilson, Amy Adams, Hank Azaria, Eugene Levy, Steve Coogan, Ricky Gervais, Dick Van Dyke & Mickey Rooney.

For horror fans there is nothing more exciting than the return to this genre by director Sam Raimi, as he and Universal Pictures presents, "Drag Me To Hell". A loan officer ordered to evict an old woman from her home finds herself the recipient of a supernatural curse which turns her life into a living nightmare. Starring Alison Lohman, Justin Long, Ruth Livier & David Paymer.

A pair of romantic comedies also hit the summer season this month. First Matthew McConaughey & Jennifer Garner star in "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past". A bachelor is haunted by the ghosts of his past girlfriends at his younger brother's wedding. Also starring Emma Stone, Michael Douglas, Anne Archer, Robert Forster, Breckin Meyer & Lacey Chabert.

Also in "Management", A traveling art saleswoman tries to shake off a flaky motel manager who falls for her and won't leave her alone. Starring Jennifer Aniston, Steve Zahn & Woody Harrelson.

In the animated "Battle for Terra", A peaceful alien planet faces annihilation, as the homeless remainder of the human race sets its eyes on Terra. Mala, a rebellious Terrian teenager, will do everything she can to stop it. Starring Evan Rachel Wood, Luke Wilson, Justin Long, Danny Glover, Brian Cox, Dennis Quaid, Rosanna Arquette, James Garner, Ron Perlman, Mark Hamill, Chris Evans & Amanda Peet.

In "Next Day Air", When a delivery man leaves a package containing bricks of cocaine at the wrong address, it sets into motion a battle of wills and wits between the dealer, the intended recipients, and the people who have the drugs and plan to sell them off. Starring Donald Faison, Mos Def & Mike Epps.

Finally in "Dance Flick", Street dancer Thomas Uncles is from the wrong side of the tracks, but his bond with the beautiful Megan White might help the duo realize their dreams as the enter in the mother of all dance battles. Starring Shoshana Bush & all the Wayans.

There's a guy named Moon Bloodgood in Terminator? Well that seals it. I'm seeing that movie. Even though we all know he'll survive, it should be interesting to watch a movie where there is no guarantee that John Connor makes it through to the end.

This should be a busy month for me. I'm sure I'll check out Terminator and Star Trek in theaters (two movies in one month is very busy for me). I'm sure I'll see wolverine at some point, just not in theaters.

I have huge expectations for the Star Trek reboot....I can't wait!

I really enjoyed Terminator 3, too, so I'm hoping this new trilogy packs a punch.

Is it officially going to be a trilogy? If so, that means Connor most likely won't die...

Just so you know, Moon Bloodgood is a woman. I hope that does'nt change your mind on seeing Terminator: Salvation.

Although, after seeing her, you may just want to see the movie even more.

This settles the Picard vs Kirk debate

They needed a new younger actor to revive Kirk

ergo Picard > Kirk....Engage

No, no, no....they didn't need a new actor to revive KIRK, they needed to revive the FRANCHISE, cause Picard and his monkey crew couldn't hold anyone's interest!

LONG LIVE KIRK!!!

Where are all the comedy classics??

No Renee Zelwiger (or Jennifer Aniston) romantic comedy?

No uptight Ben Stiller/wacky Owen Wilson comedy?

No black comedian dressed up like an old, fat woman comedy?

Come on Hollywood!!

The trailers for many of these movies (Wolverine and Star Trek, for example) are horrible, IMO. I expect Wolverine to suck, I only hope Star Trek is better than the lame, all-action, trailers they are now showing on the tube.

Well, you can scratch your Ben Stiller itch with Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian!
