Coach Tuesday Posted March 3, 2009 Share Posted March 3, 2009 More and more mocks have us picking Maybin at 11. I confess that I haven't seen him play or work out. I know he's sort of a one-year wonder and had something like 22 tackles for a loss this year. Any PSU fans out there who can fill us in on this guy? Is he explosive? A leader? Were his tackles behind the LOS solo efforts, for the most part? Did he win battles to get back there? Or were they more schematic as far as you can tell? Thanks in advance. I don't want him. i don't want any of the DEs listed at the top. Try as hard as you can to trade down or if you have to, draft a big person (Raji or Jerry or one of the top tackles or Rey depending on his pro day). He then showed up at the combine weighing 250, having put on 20 pounds. His combine performance was a little disappointing, his 40 times were slower due to the extra weight. The overall consensus on him, one year wonder or not, is that he has the most explosive first step of any DE/OLB in the draft. If we drafted him I think he could be an excellent situational pass rusher. WVUFootball29 Posted March 3, 2009 Share Posted March 3, 2009 Maybin can be effective if used as a pass rusher from DE and LB. Rotate him around with Kelsay, Denney and whoever is at OLB and you have yourself a player the offense has to account for at all times. Is he a complete player? At this point no, but he's a good specialist that can develop. Orakpo and Brown are both slated to be tweener DE/OLB as well and I like Maybin more so than Brown as a pass rusher. I'm not sure if he gained it during the course of the year, which could be possible, or in a short time before the combine.
