NOt sure going a DE is the right thing they take a while to develop, we may need a veteran there like Peppers, but no way the Bills will sign a guy like that cuz of his salary.

Maybe OT- and Trade Walker- he's not nasty enough.

LB- they play better faster, all they have do it hit and tackle people, and be in the right place.

It has to be a DE unless a top 2 OT falls to them...I'm going to go with Maybin out of Penn State. If he has a strong showing against USC, I think he has a legit shot of being a top 15 pick. I hear a lot of people saying Orakpo, but I don't have too much confidence in Texas players (i.e. Mike Williams (ouch!), Chris Simms, Cedric Benson, Ricky Williams, etc.)

Which player and position would you choose? Obviously, workouts and medical reports we don't have access to, but what do you think and why. Bonus points for strong arguments for what players and position you would take on the 2nd and 3rd round.

1st Round: Eugene Monroe, OT

I would personally rather the Bills reach for Unger or Mack at center, but they really are just too far down in the rankings for my wish to be realistic come draft day. So I'm choosing the best OL that should be there at number 11. Why? Because Jason Peters is not as good as he and his fellow NFL voters think he is, and Langston Walker is a fat joke, although he is well spoken and didn't play too horribly. I know DE is a weakness, but a great OL will control the game and keep any defense off the field long enough to always have a chance to win. Monroe would challange for a starting job day one, and at the very least add that depth that the Bills need at every position until he eventually replaces Walker and his 5 Million dollars a year waste of money later in his rookie season.

2nd Round: Max Unger or Alex Mack, Center

Now most of you think I'm crazy, for ignoring the DE for another OL. I cannot emphasize more how I believe a better OL would have made the difference between 7-9-0 and 10-6-0, all by itself this year. Even with Kelsy and Denny never sniffing a sack. Just my personal opinion. But if those big fat stiffs would have controlled the running game as well as their size and alleged talent mandated they should have, as I said above, with Lynch and Jackson our offense would have kept the defense off the field longer and I believe would have been the difference in winning at least 3 more games then they did.

3rd Round; Matt Shaughnessy, DE

It would be awesome if Everette Brown would still be on the board here, but I'm sure he won't be, so Shaughnessy would be the best DE that should still be on the board.

This is the priority I give to the positions we need to improve. This isn't necessarily the order I think we should draft..b/c it depends on FA.

1. DE

2. TE

3. C

4. LB

5. DT

6. WR

7. DB

My dream draft for the first 3 picks would be as follows:

1. Michael Johnson - DE - I know a lot of people would probably prefer Orakpo, but quite frankly, I just don't see him being there when we draft. I personally think that Johnson (I've watched GT quite a lot) has arguably the most tools/raw talent of any DE in this draft. He's a FREAK...he actually reminds me a bit of Kearse (in terms of build/wingspan)...his only drawback in my opinion is the fact that he's still kinda raw. But hey, look at Ware, he didn't come into the league and dominate from the beginning..he had a bit of a learning curve and now he's a complete beast. Johnson is a freakishly good talent/athlete, and when was the last time the bills had someone like that?

2. Chase Coffman - TE - To me it's simple: This damn team has been playing with one less player on offense since Metzelaars played here. This difficiency HAS TO END THIS OFFSEASON. A solid TE is one of the most important pieces/safety nets for a developing QB. Coffman is a high motor guy, with very good size, EXTREMELY good hands, and a never say die attitude. There's a chance that he could still be there for us in the 2nd round. We would need to take him there - no questions asked.

3. Antoine Caldwell - C - This guy has anchored the Crimson Tide's OL during his entire collegiate career. He's smart, he's quick, and pretty damn athletic for an OL. I even think he earned his degree in 3 years or something like that - I'd have to look that one up. He doesn't come with as many bells and whistles as say a Mack or Unger, but he could very well make it into the 3rd round. If he's there when we draft in the 3rd, we should def. snatch him up.

I need time to think of the remaining 4 picks.

Hopefully the Bills can at LEAST land a solid veteran LB in FA to replace Ellison, b/c he simply has no business starting. I wouldn't expect the bills to make a big splash in FA - as usual. If the Bills are incapable of even getting a veteran starting LB in FA, then the 3 guys above will have to change imo (ie draft a LB with our 2nd pick).

Oh ya, and for those of you who are calling for Unger or Mack as our first pick in the draft (which I personally think is ludicrous to draft a C in the first round--but that's another topic I'd happily participate in), just a word of caution: Name me the top defenses that Mack and Unger have faced during their collegiate careers on a weekly basis? While not taking anything away from them, the Pac-10 isn't really known for their stout defensive lineman. Just something to consider, that's all.

Caldwell has faced some of the top defenses in college football year after year and held his own most of the time.

I've kinda been leaning toward Everrett Brown, but I've only seen one Penn St. game this year so I'm gonna YouTube for Maybin. I'd prefer a DE but if OLB Curry fell to us I'd take him or wouldn't even mind TE Gresham either.

I went to a few of Penn State's games this year and Maybin is a speed rusher with alot of pressure against the pass. I wouldn't mind us getting him, but he's a little small for a DE, and he's okay against the run. Maybe a second round guy. All this depends on if he declares to come out early for the draft.

I know WTF??!?!! Seriously?!?!??! And an 11-5 team not make the playoffs?!!? THEY NEED TO CHANGE THIS NOW!!!!!!!!!!

......... :P

why is everyone making a big deal about the patriots not making the playoffs at 11-5. who did they beat with a winning record. San diego kick their ass. Pittsburgh kick their ass. Indie kicked their ass. Miami beat them. So every playoff team they played beat them. they had one of the easiest schedules in the NFL and as AFC champions they could not make the playoffs. too bad for the pats

I love how every Texas player you mentioned....is an offensive player. 41 NFL active Longhorns. Guys on defense include:

Casey Hampton, Shaun Rogers, Quentin Jammer, Derrick Johnson, Michael Griffin, Cory Redding, Aaron Ross, Marcus Tubbs and Nathan Vasher.

Texas offensive players, I will give you, have been rather disappointing in the NFL as a whole. But you can't argue that their defensive players translate well.

Yeah, but it doesn't read as clever as the "UT players suck" take does.

I am going to go with Everitt Brown.

I wasn't really impressed with his bowl game....but his showing over the season has been impressive....and he looks like he has the frame to get even bigger. We need a pass rush in the worst kind of way and he can provide it.

Then I go with the best available center in the 2nd round.

Brown caused a fumble in that bowl game.

I'd take Superman with the first pick...I think he could be the tall, strong receiver we've been looking for. I hear he has a nice vertical.

In the second round I'd go with Wolverine, I think him at DE would really improve our pass rush.

Then maybe Lex Luther in the third round, I'd throw him in as Head Coach.

I like this draft a lot. Caldwell has played against some of the best defenses in the nation week in and week out in the SEC.

From his RollTide bio:

One of the best linemen in the nation with agility, foot-speed and the flexibility to play several positions ... a team leader and one of the team's best pro prospects on the offensive line, has started games at center, guard and tackle during his three-year career ... an excellent student who earned his degree in human environmental sciences in under three years, the first Alabama football player to do so ... is working on a graduate degree in financial planning

In the bold there....the first part appeals to us fans. The second part appeals to our front office.

As for free agency, I would really like to see Channing Crowder here if they think he has the speed to play OLB. Keep Ellison around as a coverage specialist.

Johnson-Stroud-Williams-Schobel

Crowder-Poz-Mitchell

McGee-Whitner-(need upgrade here or Scott)-McKelvin

Uh, you missed the post about cartoon characters, and which one reminded you most about the Bills, it was a couple of weeks ago, you really need to stay with us here. BTW my pick was Underdog.

Bobonators, I like the guys you speak of here but I would have to move OLB up to #2. You said it all with Ellison and after watch Weatherspoon for Missouri for the 4th time this year he is the playmaking LB we've been looking for. Everette Brown would be my DE of choice. Caldwell would be my 3rd rd. choice and Coffman would be my pick after that. You really did your homework.

With the 11th pick the Buffalo Bills select Brian Orakpo, DE, Texas

Trade Peters to the Detroit Lions for a 2nd and 3rd round picks, Detroit will be looking to rebuild their O-line, Buffalo tries to aquire a 1st for peters but they can't so they take an early 2nd and 3rd, Here's how our draft turns out.

1st- Brian Orakpo DE ( I have seen Mock drafts where he has slipped out of the top 10)

2nd-( Peter's trade)- Alex Mack C ( Address the center position early, this could be a steal for us)

2nd- Jermain Gresham TE ( Definitly select a tight end in this position)

3rd(Peters trade)- Marcus Freeman OLB ( Provides a solid linebacker in the Later rounds)

3rd- Kraig Urbik OG-OT ( Addressing the o-line, could take Peters spot)

4th- Phillip Hunt DE, Houston ( Watched him throughout the season, costantly got pressure on the QB)

5th- Aaron Kelly WR, Clemson ( Great height at 6-5)

6th- Chase Daniel QB ( Eh, why not?)

7th- Andre Brown RB, N.C. St. ( Could be the replacement of Xavier Omon)

Agreed, good post. If the Pats* were good enough to be a playoff team, they would have been able to beat those playoff teams.

My original post was supposed to be sarcastic, given the uproar of dipsh!ts saying that the NFL MUST change their rules due to this one case..... I'll stop here; it's been discussed enough, don't want to hijack this thread which is actually productive!

Go Bills!
