Interesting tidbit per PFW.

"As a result, word is the Bills have made the run defense a top priority this coming offseason. They’ll definitely be in the market for a run-stuffing defensive tackle, and it’s also likely that they will look to replace MLB London Fletcher with a bigger player."

Who is a run stuffing DT FA? Ian Scott? Terdell Sands?

Not that I trust PFW, but after Ralph Wilson's statement about getting help on OL as being important, it is not too clear whether DL or OL will be the top priority. I think it will come down to which FAs hit the market (as opposed to being retained by their original team). If it is a Steinbach, OL will become 'top priority' .....

Beat me to the punch.........

If I can recall, Pat Williams LOVED playing in Buffalo? Why did we let him go anyways? Ron Edwards was suppose to take his place right?

I couldnt imagine Pat Williams with this defense. He would have done wonders!

Ian Scott is a guy that I like, I dont know much about that Terd in Oakland.

Bills offered similar money over 3 yrs, Pat Williams left because Minnesota gave a bit more upfront.......I do not blame the Bills, who BTW, gave "Big Pat" his opportunity as an UDFA

Big deal--you don't blame the Bills. OK, I blame Tom Donohoe. There are certain players you pay as much as it takes to keep. Tom obviously doesn't really know football (that's right--I said it) if he didn't have the foresight that 80% of this board had---the #2 defenses would suffer immensely. The day Pat left, our run defense went with him. Now we're having fun trying to replace a guy that comes along every 10 years-UDFA or not.

TD=Aszhole.

The less upfront represented a hometown discount to the team that gave him a chance as an UDFA. But Fat Pat decided to be a greedy sumbiyatch.

Hopefully the additional upfront money was worth the losing in Minny and getting beaten beaten by the Bills this year. :rolleyes:

I think that letting Big Pat go is the single most damning aspect of the old regime. Unforgiveable, and we're still suffering for it.

I wish we could all see the board sentiment at the time he left. Anyone who dared to suggest we'd suffer was labeled as a blasphemer, as the "experts" proclaimed his loss to be of mimimal impact. Interesting to see how things change over time.

Is that in contrast to all the winning we've been doing?

I remember having all these stats thrown at me proving that Edwards was better, that Pat was past his prime.

I think we need a big DT but I don't know if there are any in the FA market. The good ones in the draft I think will be gone early and I think that we should use the 12 pick on the MLB from Ole Miss, Patrick Willis. Fletcher definitly isn't coming back and this guy is the ideal replacement. 6'2, 240 with 4.4, 4.5 speed. This guys is gonna be a true monster and if he falls to us, we would be clinically insane to pass him up. Also, we signed Tripplett last year (how long?) and drafted McCargo and Williams so I'm not sure how Marv's gonna approach that.

If I do recall, Pat Williams came out after he signed with Minny and said that the Bills didn't even offer him a contract.

No, it's not a big deal because, as someone said, Big Pat clearly was interested in the highest bidder. Minnesota also had a huge salary cap advantage and was able to give him a roster bonus instead of signing bonus. This is why Minnesota was able to give more upfront than the Bills.
