I agree 100% Dickinson has an awesome voice, and I've seen Maiden at least 6 times live and he sounds studio quality even in a live show. He rocks.

Same with Dio. Awesome live as well...

This thread is bringing back some great memories. Damn I had a great time growing up.... :P

Dio said "Rainbow in the Dark" was his only autobiographical piece. Here are the lyrics:

Rainbow In The Dark Lyrics

by Dio

When there's lightning - it always bring me down

Cause it's free and I see that it's me

Who's lost and never found

I cry for magic - I feel it dancing in the light

But it was cold - I lost my hold

To the shadows of the night

There's no sign of the morning coming

You've been left on your own

Like a Rainbow in the Dark

Do your demons - do they ever let you go

When you've tried - do they hide -deep inside

Is it someone that you know

You're a picture - just an image caught in time

We're a lie - you and I

We're words without a rhyme

There's no sign of the morning coming

You've been left on your own

Like a Rainbow in the Dark

When there's lightning - it always brings me down

Cause it's free and I see that it's me

Who's lost and never found

Feel the magic -feel it dancing in the air

But it's fear - and you'll hear

It calling you beware

There's no sign of the morning coming

There's no sight of the day

You've been left on your own

Like a Rainbow in the Dark

Possibly my favorite song of all time.

When I was in college I was a metal DJ and got to meet and interview many of the bands I loved. I remember I had asked to do an interview with Dio when he was scheduled to play a show out at Darrien Lake (bfore there was a covered ampitheater). So one day my phone rings and my brother tells me there's someone asking for me - she introduces herself as Wendy Dio, Ronnie's wife and manager - I was stunned. We worked out a pre-show interview and I was so thrilled - RJD had been such a hero of mine. Unfortunately, the day of the show brought thunderstorms and lightning and they called it off, so I never got my interview - bummer of a lifetime (that and the time Alice in Chains' manager and I crossed our signals and my Lane Stayley interview never happened).

I'm sure they're on there. It requires registration to see the entire list. You can't tell me Bon Jovi is there but Iron Maiden isn't...

Oh, I'm just messing around... if their name was Abba Maiden, they would've led off the 2nd-tier right after Van Halen.

Speaking of Iron Maiden, check this out, pretty bizarre:

Their 1st 3 albums rocked. 2112 wasn't too bad either. But A Farewell to Kings was the beginning of the end. They went from power trio to prog rock: Geddy stopped wailing, synths started taking over, and Peart's lyrics got even funnier. Moving Pictures was the last hurrah... too bad.

It takes different strokes to move the world I guess...

Didn't read the article, but I think that has to do with Sharon Osbourne. For some reason she got all uppity against Bruce (who is reported to be a real dickhead) for some slight against Ozzy. That was the last show they did with Ozzfest...

Metal has vocals? Damn.......guess I never got past all the noise.

See, that's what a few bad apples due to the genre. Same crap happens to the rappers. Get one 2-Live and it's game over. Get a Cannible Corpse and a Deicide or two and Metal is all noise. Like everything else in life, the vast majority is fine, it's the crap on the fringe that needs to be shipped off to a pacific island penal colony.

i take the opposite view in terms of the ratio between good and crap in ANY genre.

I figure anywhere from 1%-10% of the music in any given genre is good and the rest is derivative crap. Of course, I'm a putrid music snob!
