Cosell's Comments on the Bills

Agree. The teams that scare me the most in the AFC,  likely won't be in the playoffs.

Here's what he basically said. Not a great listen as a Bills fan. They aren't one of the most talented teams in the league, they aren't that good overall from a talent perspective, they lack  play makers on both sides of the ball, very poor WR core and Kalir is more of a WR3, , have to scheme up offense, and rely on Josh being Superman which is hard to be sustainable and win like that. 

 

I know it's just one guys opinion but this guy really knows his football. Doesn't mean the Bills can't win it all. Nevertheless, this was pretty eye opening and deflating. What do you think? 

I listened and it was pretty much a takedown.  I think he was overly harsh and I’ll explain why.

First he said that the two turnovers last week were “flukey.”  I’d disagree on the Benford pick 6.  That was a great play.  The tipped INT?  Maybe - but can’t you say the same thing about Houston’s INT to seal the win against Kansas City.  Who was calling that a “flukey” 

 

He also said that Buffalo hasn’t had the talent and it’s been the same case for a few years.  

Yet, Buffalo has finished as the #2 seed both years and was a few plays away from going to the Super Bowl last year.   How do you explain that?  Is McDermott a better coach than we give him credit for!?!?!?
 

So, I’m feeling that his comments were a bit harsh.  Not sure why.  He does a segment every Friday on One Bills Live and he’s never that down on the team

Thank you for finally coming to the point I've been making here for a long time 

 

McDermott has done a hell of a coaching job with this roster 

 

Whether we're the six best roster or the 9th best roster regardless he's not underperforming with nine pro bowlers yearly 

 

he's doing a very good coaching job

You can use any creative description of our offense that you wish but the facts are  we average 29 and give up 22 a game. It’s not always pretty but with the 11/2 TOs we force a game average, you’re in every game. Throw in we’re a great 2nd half team and that’s why Vegas likes us to win some playoff games.

And while everything Mr. Cosell said was true, I’ve seen worse teams win the Super Bowl. If we get hot at the right time we’re as good as any..

Cosell plays to his audience. When he’s local with Tasker and Chris he’s a Bills enthusiast. On the national show with Colin he tempers his Bills enthusiasm. He tries to let his film study translate to the viability of a team’s prospects but he doesn’t value intangibles enough. His assessment of talent on  our team doesn’t explain why their record is so incredible at home and in December. The team plays it’s best when the games get really meaningful.

He literally was a focal point as a rookie that defensive coordinators would game plan against and he's much better today

I think defenses will focus on him because he's one of the few legitimate pass catchers the Bills have. Of course he's the focal point. He's very good but I still don't think teams fear him. He's no Gronk, Hernandez, or Kelce. To boot, the guy can't stay healthy.

 

Watch last year's last play of the KC home loss in the playoffs.
